  1. A bung in the dump is the preferred option for most tuners. Makes the road tune touch up much easier too, no long cables dragging out the back.
  2. These cars are getting old, CV joints, propshaft universals are all showing their age. You can have a guess as you've done with the suspension components (which were probably getting on anyway), or take it to a workshop. As it's happenng when turning, CV joints would be my guess. Propshaft will be a constant high speed vibration with noticeable heavy vibration on powerful lift off.

    Roadtrip!

Nullabor is pretty special, lots of long straight road but still an amazing part of Aus. Good road surface, speed is only 110 and policed would you believe it. Don't travel early morning or evening due to the roos. If you must travel at these times, sit back behing a semi and let him clear the path. Watch out for road kill flying off his wheels. UHF is a must, just a hand held so you can chat with the truckies. Fuel will be expensive and of suspect quality so don't go heavy with the foot.
  4. Nope, 10 4 is correct, GTR is RWD until wheel slip or excess acceleration is detected, THEN the front wheel assist kicks in. Under normal driving conditions, you'll rarely see the torque gauge move much. There's no 3rd differential in a GTR.
  5. None of that info helps if he hasn't got the tensioner spring doing its job. Yes you have to preload the tensioner to get the spring working, otherwise it will just sit there as you found out. Take care you don't get any windings gaught under the tensioner where it mounts to the block, that will cock it over and run the belt off. Next as it's a Gates belt, my opinion is that the workshop manual info won't work, the belt gets too tight once things reach operating temp. From experience Gates belts have to be setup looser than the factory belt, which is why no more Gates belts for me. You need to be doing belts daily to have the "feel" for Gates belts.
  6. Getrag 6-speed overdrive is 0.793:1 (5th is direct) GTR 5-speed overdrive is 0.752:1 R34 GTR has the taller diff ratio of 3.545:1 compared to earlier GTR's having 4.11:1 You can do the maths.

    Roadtrip!

Adelaide to Perth, cruise is a must and sunshades for driving into that sun all afternoon.

    Roadtrip!

Didn't your post say you're on the train, Cairns to Brisb. and Adelaide to Perth?
  9. Thanks for that info Chris.
  10. Think you'll find the one on the left strut tower is the air reg resistor. The one in the boot should be the fuel pump low speed resistor.
  11. Looking for one of these to fit an R32 GTR. Will pick up.
  12. What about your hydraulics? Have you got free travel at the pedal? Any clutch will slip if you've got the pedal adjusted wrongly.
  13. This is a great idea but I feel it should only run the aux fan when the aircon compressor is activated, not just the whole time the aircon is turned on. I'm wiring mine via the aircon clutch, same thinking as Commodore etc.
  14. Try here: http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/nissan-patrol-gu-gr-10/gu-conversion-rd28-out-rb25det-20229/ All I know is if you've removed an Rd28 from a GU, they have the duel mass flywheel which is much thicker than an Rb25 wheel. You'll see the GU's bellhousing has a packer piece 3-bonded on the front to allow for the extra distance.
  15. Once you've ruled out propshaft and half shafts, the most common cause of excess movement is worn spider gears and their thrust bearings. Crownwheel to pinion backlash is nothing when compared to the slop you'll get from worn spider gear thrust bearings. Oil change won't fix that.
  16. Can alter the set boost and the duty cycle.
  17. Chamfer on washer to face to engine side. Use hex on camshaft to hold cam against rotating when tensioning up centre bolt. Centre bolt torque: 123 to 132 N-m (12.5 to 13.5 kg-m) (90 to 97 ft lbs)
  18. As with most things, practice makes perfect............
  19. Guys need some driving lessons, double-de-clutching is just rev matching. You don't even need the clutch once your revs are right. Try an old Mack quad box, only use the clutch for initial take off, then rev match all the rest, no clutch. Miss a gear and you'll break your wrist. No synchro on those bad boys.
  20. Something is slowly draining the battery, my guess is the alarm siren internal battery.
  21. Normally your new PFc is supplied with 2-pieces of double sided tape, 50mm x 50mm, that's the mounts but it jambs in pretty tightly anyway. Your case would also have an outlet for the MAP sensor (boost kit), not just the hand commander socket. I altered mine by just using the Nissan covers. I then get mounting brackets and it looks factory.
  22. I'm not a fan of cruise control but when time/funds permit I'll be fitting cruise to the 32. Nothing flash, just an AP60 and apart from the "on" switch, I'll only use a "set" button mounted on the gearstick. Clutch and brake switches will be the kills. Was concerned the vacuum style of cruise would give problems with a turbo engine but no, they work fine. Been in Skylines a lot and unless you're Danny Devito, your legs will soon rub the paint off the driver's arm rest and your leg will cramp from holding the accelerator UP. On the highway they just want to go faster as they're so smooth from 3000rpm on.
  23. Blame it on OWHS. Very few shops allow an owner anywhere near their car when it's on the dyno, so consequently the owner doesn't get to see real exhaust manifold temperatures. Turbo housings go way past red hot, they're almost see through they're so damn hot. Doesn't stop there either, the dump etc will be glowing during big power runs. Pays to keep all heatshields in place, oil/water lines and electricals clamped properly so nothing comes in direct contact with the hot bits.
  24. From memory................25 has 2-idle controls, AAC and the aircon. AAC is brown plug, aircon is purple plug. Easy to test, just pull the plugs one at a time to see what does what.
  25. Sounds like the "snow" button is on. They start in 2nd to reduce wheel spin in ice/snow conditions. You should have a selector button near the gearshift.
