My R33 Gtr Daily / Build-up Thread
NickR33 replied to UNR33L's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
if its anything like my car a little exhaust shroud ain't going to do much... it spits out raw fuel and gunk ALL over the bumper... -
Tarmac Rallying Perpetual Thread
NickR33 replied to Marlin's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
what they really need is a Top Gear style challenge... you get 1K to buy a car and with the change left over you can modify it... Targa in a 1983 Holden Commodore SS with 354,000kms on the clock anyone? -
love that last one, so cool!... gotta give that a try I don't have a tripod or a wide lense I made this pano by lining the camera up on the horizon and just shooting about 10 shots handheld... then an hour in photoshop and I have something that could have been done in 5 minutes with the proper gear lol

Victoria R32 Skyline Gts-t For Sale
NickR33 replied to SRBJ3T's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
when did the rego expire? -
he will put a pic of the stig on the cover and it will sell like hotcakes... hell if Hammond can sell books anyone can
-
didn't he tour with the stage show as well? that would have been good money regardless he will stand to make a lot more from a bestselling book... and the beauty of royalties is they still flow in long after you've done the work! meh 'the stig' is much bigger than him... he will be replaced and the show will go on...

Silverstone, Ring, Monza And Spa In 8 Days
NickR33 replied to Roy's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
yep they're very lucky... we stayed with some friends in London and when he mentioned how many times he had popped over to Amsterdam for a messy weekend with his mates I almost died of jealousy not to mention all of the abandoned airfields about the place... the closest patch of concrete we have is nearly 2 hours out of Melbourne the UK laws on road registration seem to be a lot more relaxed than here as well... and the government seems to support those small car manufacturers a lot more -
Silverstone, Ring, Monza And Spa In 8 Days
NickR33 replied to Roy's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
no GFC at Silverstone! lol nice write up... forget about chasing women your having more fun doing that anyway... I just spent 2 months in europe with my wife and didn't visit a single track... women seem to be able to suck the fun out of that stuff by reminding you not to crash or spend all the money one day I'll go back with the boys... more racetracks, less shopping/museums ps. some interesting lines taken by some of those drivers... money doesn't equate to talent -
you really only need the 550D if your planning on shooting video... I picked up a 1000D (entry level DSLR) to take on holiday in Europe as I just wanted to shoot still stuff and didn't want to be paranoid about losing breaking an expensive bit of gear... just got the upgrade twin lens kit with it anyway its a great camera, more than enough if your just starting out for examples check out my book I put together here http://www.blurb.com/books/1557242 there's a bit of photoshop there but most of the pics are how they came off the camera

So Who Has A Rebuilt Motor That Didn't Last?
NickR33 replied to Rolls's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I voted more than 1 last over 5000kms 1 x RB25 - cheap arse rebuild by mechanic friend, just threw forgies in it and hoped for the best... lasted approx 25-30,000kms before it ran a bearing on the track 1 x RB25 - much better rebuild by mechanic friend, changed rods and crank this time... lasted 10,000kms before I sold it, still going strong as far as I know 1 x RB26 - built by previous owner at proper performance shop, lasted 6+ years @ 360rwkw before I ran a bearing on track (should have overfilled oil, I didn't) 1 x RB26 - rebuilt at same performance shop, pistons looked brand new, rods reused, new crank... done nearly 10,000kms, still going strong I think you only really hear about the horror stories... people don't tend to post when everything goes as planned... also consider most motors are putting out twice or even 3 times their stock output and being driven very hard at the track etc... also it seems anybody can open a workshop and claim to be a import specialist etc... plus sometimes shit just happens;) -
rating system is different over there so 91 isn't equivalent to our 91... closer to our 98 nice car dude, bet it gets a few people scratching their heads... especially with twin 2835's!

Sandown 1.16............ dear god that's fast well done on the sponsorship, car look great:)
-
please god no... why do you always have to sell your soul to save money;) there seems to always be lots of bargains up in Qld... down here everyone has their heads up their arse and want 6K for an old CA18det silvia with 250,000km on the clock... I just have to get serious and start flashing the cash at some of these guys, sure to get something for a decent price... I should probably leave the GTR alone first... its in getting the Teins modified at the moment, to secret squirrel Racepace specs... (in other words softened up... blocks of concrete would have been faster and more comfortable than what they were)
-
show me where I can find a regoed turbo S13 in decent mechanical condition for under 3K and I'm all ears!
-
you will have no choice once those N1's 'break' 'sorry honey, turbos shat themselves on the dyno... damn cars (act angry and annoyed)'
-
hmm... my car still makes me smile when I open it up... 360rwkw and no traction issues whatsover (unless you clutch dump at 8000+rpm) you really benefit from the extra traction a GTR has when changing hard from 1st to 2nd... the old GTSt used to spin the rears for a moment which would blunt acceleration a little... however the GTR almost breaks your neck RWD is more fun as it hunts for traction and squirms around under power, but the G's created by wide tyres and AWD make for more of a push in the seat when bored of the power just go E85... I'm going to for shits and giggles;)
-
navigators are next to useless on the pan.... unless you know the route off by heart your pretty much stuffed Russ, Matt and Ryan going down to the wire in the last Deca... better make sure those cars are reliable boys! eg. don't bring a GTR in November;)
-
stop being modest... its perfect... just the right mix of exterior mods, perfect wheel selection and some serious track times to back it all up... just the right blend of road/track... drive it there, smash everyone, drive home in comfort

Replace Current Car With...
NickR33 replied to No Crust Racing's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
probably been for sale for ever and he just wants to get rid of it... can't imagine there would be too many buyers looking for a GTR in that colour with twin T04s! -
I've got 275 KU36 on a 10inch rim... should be fine on a 9.5... that said if I were you I'd just go for the adrenalins, will be a bit less sidewall, better fit for track work

A Boy's Love For His Rb20
NickR33 replied to Roy's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Roy what have you done! better spending the money on the chassis to get it handling really well IMO... your engine/turbo setup was never an issue was it? -
surely you could get away with a much less comprehensive cage for a track car? (as opposed to one used for tarmac rallies) most tracks have pretty good run off these days and tyre walls do a pretty good job at absorbing impact... that said there are some places at Sandown I wouldn't want to have something on the car break! so are you mainly worried about a rollover? would the 35's benefit from a bit more stiffness... they seem like they're pretty good in that area already?

Fully Restored Completely Brand New 2010 Supra Build
NickR33 replied to PM-R33's topic in General Automotive Discussion
wow very impressive... best restoration of an import I've ever seen... he takes 'anal' to new heights! looks like its going to be mainly a show car tho, how nervous would you be driving it, hell you might end up driving through a puddle! oooh the humanity... interesting choice on the auto too... me thinks someone doesn't know how to drive stick imagine trying to insure it... 'yeah I want to insure my Supra'... 'market or agreed value?'... 'agreed please... for 150k'... 'uuum no, good bye thanks for calling'
