R33 Gtr Abs Or No Abs Race Car
NickR33 replied to Travis Trayhern's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
have you tried just upgrading the handbrake shoes? Made a big difference on my car I'm not a huge fan of the ABS system, I never had ABS on the GTSt and just learnt to live without it... the GTR ABS cuts in fairly late and if it does you have already overcooked the corner so no point to it I reckon... is your car Vspec? I think they have different ABS to standard? mine is regular GTR and the ABS is fairly crude, not anywhere near as sophisticated as modern systems mine tripods too, not sure how to get rid of that though... more travel in rear suspension, softer rears... dunno, SK should be able to shed light -
well for limited 4WD it looked really well sorted, the couple of moments were in low speed corners... the aero package must be doing its job! Fark that takes some balls though, very well driven to be so smooth with all that power... look forward to seeing this car develop and decimate all!

Your driving isn't the issue... a GTR warmed up properly and then driven WOT to 6K should love you for it To starve the bottom end you would have to be doing serious launches or hard cornering, anything to get the oil moving away from the pickup in the pan... sustained high rpm will pump a lot of oil into the head too but it doesn't sound like you were doing that The bearings may have already been damaged and the previous owner has chucked some super thick oil in it to mask the noise... its a possibility but I've had bottom end knocks in a few of my engines and they were all pretty god damned loud... loud enough to be heard in the car with a helmet on so I would be surprised to learn thicker oil could mask the sound Good luck with it

Racepace are farkin miles from my place... I leave home at 8am, get to racepace at 9am, drop car off, talk shit for a while, walk to Boronia train station (or get driven, thanks Chris!) catch train to Richmond station, change lines and catch train to Balaclava station, walk to work... get to work about 11.30am... that's a 3.5 hour round trip if I'm lucky... ... but I don't care... nobody else touches the car! me included;) lol

If the bottom end is knocking its cactus, you have done a bearing and will need a rebuild Ryco filter is fine, it will not cause bearing problems Oil weight not really the issue and will not solve your problem Most likely it hasn't got enough oil in it and you have been cornering/braking/accelerating hard and its starved the bearings of oil... been there done that... it sucks:/ Oil is best filled to the hump on the dipstick... then if you are going to the track add an extra 0.5 – 1L

Yep found it the other night, was flicking through updating my favourites and stumbled across it... 24hr car stuff FTW!

when you look at how expensive it is to run a Porka makes me glad to be a GTR owner!

Reducing Engine Bay Heat Caused By Turbo
NickR33 replied to Jap_Muscle's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I hated mine... made it almost impossible to get the car up to temp on cold Melbourne nights but you might not have that problem in Darwin! 90º water and oil is fine... no reason to stress out -
You should have run the Mini!... I reckon it would go alright on the skidpan, its gotta do some great handbrake turns... just load The Italian Job soundtrack into the CD player and away you go

Aaaaagh... mate your due for some good luck!

Moral Dillemma Regarding My Gtr
NickR33 replied to spec-V's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
nah 10 slabs of VB fixes the weight distribution issue... -
yep makes perfect sense, roads are really greasy today... but its still warm and humid and I'm sitting at work in shorts... gotta love Melbourne weather
-
6-8k is a great price... he obviously had no idea... I think HE should jam it up his arse some people have NFI what its like to run a workshop... a lot more difficult than people think... its hard to run a small business full stop, let alone one where even the simplest of jobs can get really complicated
-
360kw atw here... it just wants to walk around and spin all 4... my old GTSt with 260rwkw actually put power down in the wet better than the GTR... mostly due to much softer rear suspension, less power and more linear boost curve... but it also had Hankook K107's which I rate highly, really good tyre too KU36 good dry tyre though, I can shift 1-2nd at 8000+rpm really aggressively and it just grips and goes... it fully chirps 2nd... fully
-
um that's a lot of sidewall at the back and not much at the front, you sure that's right? if so your going to have a fair bit of rake going on... well its pissing down today and the KU36 are struggling... I'm not sure if its just the roads are greasy cos it hasn't rained in a while but they're having a bit of trouble putting down zee power... the attessa helps out but the rears still break away really easily... the car makes a fair whack of power so I don't expect miracles but they aren't the best wet weather tyre out there
-
I still haven't seen a 35 on the road yet! saw a new Audi RS6 and a Merc with the numberplate 1... but no 35 *sob*
-
I just got a set of the KU36, good price was $1150 for 4 x 275/35/18 they seem like a good tyre, a bit iffy in the wet but pretty quiet and have nice feel... overall I'm pretty happy for the price I haven't driven on the Adrenelins but they have heaps of great reviews and are probably more suited to a daily... if they're the same price I'd go with the Bridgestones To be honest on a 4wd with moderate power I would just go for the tyre that lasts the longest... grip not as much of an issue as on a rwd

I don't know if it would be quicker than a 35... definitely in a straight line, not sure round a track, maybe with a pro driver... however I'd almost guarantee it would be more fun to drive! and dare I say it looks better too! (and I don't usually like white cars) know what you mean re. the modifying bug... I just can't leave cars alone... I went for heavily modded 33GTR instead of a stock 34GTR so I wouldn't be tempted to 'upgrade' stuff... its not really working though:/ -
Yeah I'm referring to freeways/highways... I don't care how fast your going if your in the right lane and someone comes up behind you move over... your not the Police its not your responsibility to ensure people stick to the speed limit and why would you want someone up your arse (so to speak)... move over to let them past then everyone's happy In normal traffic 60, 70 zones, there's no point in tailgating and getting frustrated as people are often in the right lane to turn right... and unless its 2am your just going to get more traffic or a red light even if you do manage to get past a big fireball out the exhaust usually backs off any tailgaters... clutch in and bounce it off the limiter a couple of times

Eoi On 4.375 Ratio Diff Gears For Skylines
NickR33 replied to Strik3r's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
interested, let us know when you have a ball park cost:) -
I think anybody in the right hand lane not doing at least 5km/h over the speed limit should be shot immediately by government employed snipers people with cruise control who pull into the right hand lane with it set 1km/h faster than the person they are overtaking and then proceed to take 4 hours to get past them should also be shot that is all

wow... that's a power curve to make anyone jealous! can't imagine how good it feels on the road... power and boost curves are really linear, makes it far easier to drive fast it looks the goods as well... those Z Tune guards are sooo nice -
Question About Spring Rates
NickR33 replied to msports180's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
that makes sense Snowy, Benno said the rears in mine were twice as hard as what he usually specs... Its IMPOSSIBLE to get it to transfer weight to the rears, even with a big rev clutch dump... Can't believe they would sell suspension with equal stiffness springs in both ends when a GTR is so nose heavy its great when you are committed in a corner and hit a bump... the car leaps sideways about a metre and I soil myself I guess you would sacrifice a bit of stiffness to get more confidence when doing Targa stuff... I still reckon your brave or crazy to drive that fast with trees whizzing by! -
Ku31 265/35 Or Ku36 245/40?
NickR33 replied to SS8_Gohan's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
put the 245's on mate... that's the right size for a 9 inch rim... I ran 235 on my old R34 GTR rims and they were fine I was looking for the KU36 in 265 for my 10 inch rims but was in the same boat as you so went for the 275... seem to be an okay tyre, pretty good for the price best thing you can do for traction is a good mech diff... made a world of difference on my old car
