Question About My Car
NickR33 replied to Chris_GTR26's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
all GTR's have LSDs (so do all GTSt's BTW) non Vspec have a mechanical LSD diff... its got clutch packs in it so it will lock on tight turns depending on how worn the clutch packs are etc... it may have been modified to lock tighter/earlier... the Vspec diff is an electronically controlled viscous (fluid) diff (which is what the light is for on Vspecs) mine does the same as yours in car parks etc and has not been modified... its a non Vspec... my old GTSt had a Cusco 2 way mechanical in it and it was even louder and more aggressive... but also made loud clunking sound and vibration through the driveline, I'm sure you would know if you had an aftermarket mechanical diff, they are pretty obnoxious lol -
yep its gotten way too serious in here... where's Roy?
-
anyone who can punt a farkin Corona around (no offence, its awesome) like you do has to have a bit of skill... I have driven a stock one before and it was... umm.. terrible! lol whether trying for times or just having fun... @ Deca go hard or go home!* * preferably not on the back of a flat bed truck
-
they will fix it for free... RRD (red ring of death) is really common, google it for fun reading... I had 2 360's both do it... now I have a PS3
-
lol... I was going to look at an SR20 turbo powered one... but decided I liked living too much I drive my keyboard awesome... its just cars I suck at
-
lol... ummmmm... yeah... I've never really been good at the whole 'sensible' thing... I'll leave that to 50yr old Porsche drivers... its a skidpan afterall... sure you can try to be 'fast' but failing that its just fun to be a bit stupid... I'm an expert at stupid plus I actually like being married and aren't really ready for divorce yet... sad I know Hightower: I was hoping it would throw a flame for you, best way to waste petrol... ever
-
yep but I've blown the motorsport budget for this year... so unless you can guarantee my wife I won't break my car I won't be there:( I was thinking for the next deca I might offer to pay someones fuel/entry/accom for a drive of their car... might get one of the young blokes interested who are on a tight budget We are planning a big trip next year so that's taking priority... looking at these threads doesn't make it easy though
-
nah this is motorsport, never the drivers fault gotta watch the surface on the mini wang, lots of gravel makes it really tricky... I'm new to ABS and last time I was there I failed to stop in the garage... twice you gotta hold it flat over the hill on the mini wang otherwise your just not trying hard enough! lol aaah... I hate missing deca
-
were you running anti-clockwise? so the pole on the corner exit? clearly the cars fault, bloody fwd power understeer! scariest deca moment for me was going over the hill on the mini wang backwards... too much throttle exiting the mini sweeper... fun times:)
-
sorry to hear that you damaged it... where did you come off? I've had a few clenching moments at deca over the years but never hit anything
-
wow its pretty sorted... I don't think I saw him put on any opposite lock the whole vid... its just planted, takes the inside line entry on the corners and just hugs the apex, very impressive for a high HP RWD... makes everything else look slow!
-
yeah I read that the same as Ash... but I have no excuse hehe I've had N1 pumps on a couple of engines that I've destroyed, pump was never at fault though... that said recently I've found myself short shifting at 8K to be careful I don't nudge the limiter anyway that's hard luck Rezlo, sounds like its a killer setup, would be a wild ride... I would be checking that bottom end really carefully, fingers crossed for you
-
not really the mechanics fault IMO... even if he did open the taps a bit the turbo sounds like it was on its way out, it would have happened to you when you got the car back anyway... still sucks but that's life (and cars)... I would have at least said sorry but maybe he thought that was admitting liability are you in Vic?

I've got NAB shares... pm me, I like money for no work

Stock Rb26 With Gt-ss Or Rb25 With Gt30r
NickR33 replied to Don Dada's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
nope Trust... as you say "I am aiming for a very responsive streeter as it is my daily driver" so go with the RB25... VCT, high comp and long plenum runners make it a much better street motor... if you were looking at higher power I would say go for the 26 but at for mid-high 200's Rb25 all the way... plus as ash said PFC is the way to go -
there's another one around there? had no idea
-
Corner Bambra and Glenhuntly I believe? good spot for it, hardly any car washes in that area... the one that just opened in StKilda does a roaring trade
-
yep it annoys me how response and lag get mixed up... of course your going to have poor response if your off boost... but on boost throttle response is really important... especially in a rwd that needs careful throttle control to steer it lag with the sts setup would be minimal if turbo selection was conservative but surely response would suck... arse!
-
don't forget labour & machining costs:)
-
spot on, I would expect a standard 25 to spool up turbos much better than a 26... pretty impressive your results seeing as you have ditched the VCT and long runners on the plenum... still you have higher compression which makes a difference... why did you ditch the VCT BTW? I didn't realise the N1's were so average... full boost over 5000 would make me cry! even the Trust 'truck turbos' on my car are all in and singing by 4400rpm... make more up top than the N1's as well... the 34 N1's seem like a much better turbo though, are they somewhat similar to the GTSS?
-
sorry double post

I once borrowed the old mans Lancia fulvia sport to go to basketball in... I had chunky bball boots on and after failing to stop at an intersection because I stood on all 3 peddles at the same time I went back home to get some better footwear... that was scary enough I can't imagine doing that at Spa in a Caterham... your a brave man it's nice having peddles really close but only when you've got the right shoes on!
-
I reckon its the 1st - 2nd change in a GTR that really puts you back in the seat... ripping 2nd gear at 8500rpm... no wheelspin just bang, grip powerful RWD cars usually have a little wheel spin on the 1st - 2nd change that softens the blow a bit, they tend to 'walk' around a bit trying to find traction... the GTR hits harder, its more violent bikes are in another league though... in a straight line there is no quicker way to travel...................... to the hospital lol
-
ah okay didn't know the cage was required... it seems I can't read properly;) yeah took me a long time of single spinning out of slow corners before I had the budget available to do the diff... but once I did it I wished I had done it earlier... it was even a problem when I only had 185rwkw are the KKK turbos ball bearing? supposed to be good gear but you would be the only person I know of running one on an RB25... interested to see the results... the intake plenum your running has shorter runners than the standard 25 plenum so will move torque up the rev range a bit but should be good for circuit stuff... should be pretty quick when its up and running car looks good, I like the colour:)
