pretty sure 300v is Motul Al... but I maybe wrong as I clearly don't know much about oil!
-
go street tuner challange!... haha the Jetta never stood a chance... just watched my first episode of PIPES the other day, not bad, looks promising... except for the whole drag racing aspect;)
-
interesting email I just received from Hi Octane when I inquired about oil restrictors for the RB25 "Under no circumstances should you restrict oil to the RB25 head. The RB25 runs hydraulic lifters and needs a lot more oil supply or will result in failure."
-
yeah the Penrite isn't my choice but I get the servicing for free so wasn't arguing... I really didn't think I would have this problem so I must admit I was a bit slack... just have to do things the right way, a little bit of work on the motor to control the oil better, using more oil and better oil I reckon I should be right... if I do everything else I don't think the sump is needed... I'm going to get a couple more quotes though, it will be going to a specialist workshop this time

whos got a car the want to lend me to thrash around PI for 6 hours? ...cmon y'all know you want to;)
-
Using your standard Penrite HPR stuff, 15W I think... oil was 4,000km old and really should have been changed (had done a DECA on that oil)... oil temp was okay, in the high 80's low 90's at the time... no misses car was running great, I was coming out of the 3rd last corner, going under the bridge, high rpms in 3rd gear and it just let go yep Ash seriously considering that option... I really don't want to have to take it out again
-
yep sorry meant my engine needs a rebuild... turbo is fine
-
Hi all, I have a secondhand HKS 2535 sitting here, not going on my car anymore as I need a rebuild... its just the bare turbo, no short parts... similar in power output to a GCG highflow (approx 250rwkw on a RB25) but with almost no lag... $1000 firm, in Melb but will post at buyers expense
-
thanks guys... haha Roy 'problems' is one way to put it!
-
hmm good question, I think it was ground but I will ask... I will definately send it off to get inspected first
-
rightio then... as some of you are aware I had an engine 'issue' at Sandown last week ... well the motor is almost out again as we are pretty sure its a big end bearing... it seems that even though my car is pretty stock (stock turbo running 10.5psi) and I run on Azenis (basically street tires) I have managed to starve the bottom end of oil and spin a bearing... sooo just want to send a warning to the RB25 guys who are thinking of tracking their car, DEFINATELY overfill the oil by at least a litre... my oil was filled right up but I neglected to overfill it as I always assumed it was the GTR guys who had to worry so yeah Nissan did not intend the RB25 to sit high in the rev range whilst throwing it round corners! The engine is almost out again and I thought I would post what I intend to do to stop this happening again and see if all the gurus think my plan is kosher... most of my research has been SK's oil control thread in FI the motor has been rebuilt previously after I had destroyed all the piston rings, run it low on oil and spun a bearing (on the street)... the whole thing was reconditioned, crank was fixed up as it was scored, stock rods were retained, Arias pistons 20thou over... water pump was replaced but stock oil pump remained (this may not be performing 100%) my plan of attack this time is to replace the bearings with some ACL (any recomendations on brand here?)... clean up the crank... install GTR rods (insurance for later on)... install 1mm restrictors in both oil feeds to the head and grind out the oil galleries for better flow... replace oil pump (need guidance here, are there any bolt on solutions)... install oil cooler... bolt it all back together and hope for the best is there anything I have overlooked? I don't want to go to an aftermarket sump because of the cost... trying to keep the costs low as possible on this one, just want the car to be reliable at the track and to be able to cope with around 250rwkw when I upgrade the turbo.... any help from people doing or have done a 25 rebuild recently is most appreciated

accelerating out from the 3rd last corner in 3rd gear, heard a clank, clank clank, pulled off into pits, called tow truck... I reckon its a big end bearing (again aghh) but it could be a valve or something else, its up on the hoist today top see whether the noise is coming from the bottom end or head I ignored the whole oil surge/bearing issue that plagues the GTR guys... but definately going to get the oil feed restrictors in there this time etc... goes to show you can still have problems running stock turbs and street tires meh... rebuild thread coming soon;)

cheers to all who helped out... it was a tough day to be a flaggy! it took me a while to work out it was Jarrod at turn 4... kept wondering why this clown was giving me the blue flag when I had half the track to myself! haha was a new experience going round there in the wet tho and it helped me improve when it dried out, I was a lot smoother... so yeah I still haven't called my mechanic to find out his diagnosis, I'm too scared... but its probably safe to say I won't be on the track again this year:( huge thanks to Chris for driving me home so far out of the way, and everyone who helped push the whale out of the pits! hehe

Sandown Sprints This Sunday - June 10th - Driver Training Only $90!
NickR33 replied to Budge's topic in Archived Events
Kev's Sandown day is on Tuesday the 12th... can't do both so going to the one where I might end up a better driver after -
no classics there guys? I would have to have a Lambo Muira for the weekends, the most beautiful car ever made... and a fire extinguisher nearby;)
-
yeah I don't see a problem when 1 faster car comes up behind 1 slower car and gets waved past... I think problems might occur when you get a long queue of cars all held up behind someone... people start to get frustrated and you have ten cars on the circuit all jammed up together... but perhaps that is the point as Snowy said, I presume most of the big accidents have just been car+wall not car+car so they are just trying to slow people down and aren't too concerned if you rub panels? I just reckon there are better ways to slow people down (maybe they should ban GTRs again LOL)

Confused! Need Help On Whether To Buy R34 Gtt Or S15
NickR33 replied to pablo101's topic in General Automotive Discussion
if your going to putt around off boost most of the time go the 34... much easier to drive everyday and hardly any difference in performance from the S15... just won't feel as 'sporty'... but then again s15's do sound like a tractor, 34 definately sounds more like a sports car... if its Nissan it has to be the straight 6... the only thing I think you really miss in the 34 is the diff from the S15... the rest is a no brainer imho -
yeah we will see how far we get before something doesn't bolt up... I have had different opinions from different people so fully expecting to have to go buy fittings at some stage... cheers for the reply:)
-
if your willing to seperate pm me
-
sh!tloads easier lol
-
just what I need, cheers!

hello all, I have a bare HKS 2535 here that has been too long sitting on the floor... its time to put it on the ol' 25... soooo its my understanding that the stock manifold, inlet and dump will bolt up, however the oil and water lines and elbow will not... so if we pull off the stock turbs and I take that and the 2535 into a <insert best store here> place that sells fittings we should be good to go... yeah? Gaskets aren't a problem as they are easy to get and so are silicon joiners... its just the oil + water lines I'm worried about... can anyone point me in the right direction? and yes I should have just bought a highflow ps if anyone has an old 2535 kit laying around I'll take the fittings lol

Jetstar left us in Bali with a 12+ hour delay, shacked us up in some hole overnight and flew us out the next day... we were the lucky ones too as the qantas plane that came to pick us up was smaller than the original jetstar plane so 60 odd people were stuck there for another day... jetstar use all the old qantas jets so are forever breaking down... never again... were forced to fly jetstar as it was a work trip but if I had a choice it would be qantas all the way... air travel is one thing I try not to skimp on
-
no it just makes you a very tall... very lucky... bastard... so when you installing my turbo ferrari driver? I have many slabs in the fridge and it would be a shame for them to go to waste... on me and my flatmates

Circuit Friendly Alignment?
NickR33 replied to NickR33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
yep left them both on medium... I have had the rear on hard before and to tell you the truth it probably handled better that way but I went faster with it on medium so I left it alone... if I put it back on hard it might help stop the diff from spinning the unloaded wheel
