Circuit Friendly Alignment?
NickR33 replied to NickR33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
yeah I reckon -2.3 would be plenty for my car, if I can get that out of the single bush I'll be happy -
Circuit Friendly Alignment?
NickR33 replied to NickR33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
edited, cheers beer baron here's another question, how much neg camber are people squeezing out of the whiteline bushes? and at what ride height? just want to make sure I can get the adjustment I want otherwise I will get replacement arms -
Circuit Friendly Alignment?
NickR33 replied to NickR33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
yeah I think if I can get close to 2º neg camber out of the whiteline bushes that will do the trick... I have swaybars already and yes I would definately recommend them strut tower brace I'm still unsure about but I guess for around $100 it can't hurt... who makes a really thick/sturdy strut brace for r33? Cusco? Whiteline? -
Circuit Friendly Alignment?
NickR33 replied to NickR33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
cheers beer baron... will try the toe out at the front and see if I like it... what's the best way to get some more negative camber at the front? do the whiteline bushes allow you to go for more neg camber? they are the only part of the gb kit I didn't get as I was happy with the camber at that stage... also would a front strut brace help? I don't have one as I was always skeptical at how much they improve handling -
Hi guys... just a quick one, my car is in the garage and I haven't had it aligned for ages so I think its due... especially since I got air over a ripple strip as I straight lined turn one at sandown and its been a bit wonky ever since its an R33GTSt running: the SK group buy kit Bilstiens with King springs Whiteline sway bars set on medium front and back Azenis rt615, 225's front 255's back I was going to go for as much neg camber at the front as possible but I only have stock adjustment so I think 1.5º will be as much as I can get? Neg camber at the back will be about 0.5º... this should be fine as is, I have the adjustable bushes in there Wheel to guard measurements are 350mm front and 350mm back, there is probably a 5-10mm rake towards the front as for toe, last time I had it set I think it was set toe in front and back but should I be looking at toe out at the front and toe in at the back? and by how much? I'm not stressed at tire wear but for reference at the moment it seems to chew the middle/outsides of the fronts and the insides/middle of the rears um what else... I have the adjustable castor bushes at the front so have about 7º there from memory pineapples in the rear set to squat hicas is still active (if that makes a difference) stock vlsd struggles to put the power down out of 90º, second gear corners (sometimes it single spins in third gear too...eeew) don't know if alignment can help here but thought I would ask geez that turned into an essay, sorry! any help is aprreciated

when the ecu detects too much airflow (AFM voltage) it will add fuel and retard ignition turn the boost down or get aftermarket management... I can't go higher than 10.5 psi on my car or I hit R&R

sorry for the slow reply, not on the net over the weekend... yeah still using the bonnet latch but I can see its not really needed and is a pain to open the bonnet as you have to undo the pins then go into the car to pop the latch... however its handy if you ever forget to do the pins up as it will prevent it from smashing into the windscreen... I'm pretty forgetful so I'm leaving the latch in place;) yep I work in StKilda so you have probably seen me round... do a search through Google there is a DIY from Autosalon magazine that somebody has scanned in, it was pretty helpful
-
I still have it active... don't really notice it much other than at PI as stated... and all I really notice is that is makes the rear slightly vague on turn in, almost as if its threatening to step out... but once settled into the turn its fine I have heard opinions that it makes it hard on corner exit to get the power down but my shagged stock diff is the biggest problem there so I can't say for sure
-
I just did this not long ago... I put the pins through the support right smack bang in the middle of the lights... this is the only pic I have that you can kinda see where I put them... each globe extends back from the headlight under the support and there is a gap between them hope this helps :sorcerer:
-
yep I have mine bolted under the front of the drivers seat... just make sure you have the seat as far forward as your likely to want it before you bolt the extinguisher down
-
get Test Drive Unlimited... awesome game... they mapped the main island of Hawaii, google earth style and you can drive every inch of it... its all in correct proportion too... insane that being said my 360 has shat itself after only 12 months... tis super ghey... going to chip it now and never pay for games again
-
I really doubt you guys with over 300awkw are going to notice 40kgs by seat of the pants... lap times maybe... but a small price to pay for added safety? I'm keen on the: "around $650-$750 for a cage that keeps the rear seats and therefore keeps the car as a 4/5 seater with Vicroads. As the cross points are bolt in, same as intrusion bars." mainly so I can mount the harness and a camera and have some side impact/rollover protection... and lets face it R33 GTSt resale values are in the toilet already, its not going to make much of a difference lol
-
fair enough then! yep you have to take the Bilsteins out to reset the height... but I have never been pulled over let alone hassled about ride height... I have mine set pretty high though, otherwise the tires scrub really badly on the rear guards... you should move away from Knox!
-
Yeah Chris should be good to get an instructor in the car car will be fixed in time... I freaked out after I filled it back up with water and drove it to the garage, when I jumped out and popped the hood there was steam everywhere and I'm thinking oh dear... well it turns out there was a pin prick hole in a coolant hard line that was spraying water right onto the exhaust housing of the turbo! interesting way to keep a turbo cool hehe

Going Track Day In 2 Weeks.. What To Look Out For?
NickR33 replied to siddr20's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
have you got your extinguisher? also check the supp regs for the event you may be required to have a secondary bonnet restraint... other than that looks like you are ready to go... I would check your tires as well, make sure you don't have any bits of nail or whatever stuck in them and check the pressures the day of the event make sure you are happy with them etc I would also think about an alignment and perhaps a coolant flush if you haven't had either one recently I like to have mine up on the hoist before I hit the track to make sure everything is tight and not leaking etc other than that a fairly standard GTSt is pretty reliable on the track, you shouldn't have any problems with temps or anything... good luck! -
I would agree if adjustable shocks actually did what is advertised... but they don't Please read this, he makes some good comments on other aspects of car setup as well http://www.wincom.net/trog/autocross_secrets6.html

I'm in for this... only issue being my car decided to dump ALL its water on the garage floor overnight... it looks like its coming out from the sump/steering rack area *eeek*.... if its just a perished hose or fitting I'm there! you have a tentative email Kev

"how good is sump baffle syndrome" awesome... was a bit tricky getting into the garage at the end tho :sorcerer:
-
I owned sump baffle syndrome ooooh yeah... the rest of the day I sucked:( lol and roy stop making excuses... these days are won by the smoothest, neatest most consistant drivers... your too damn entertaining to win! sideways + smoke + gate = FTW! ps. damn nice time on the long wang, with or without passenger

I have the SK group but stuff in my car and the only place in Vic that its too soft for is phillip island... so unless your going to be hitting PI often the Bilstein whiteline combo is great! I have never driven on the Tein super streets or the G4 stuff but I can tell you buying 'adjustable' coilovers is a waste of time... do some more reading on shock technology and handling and you will see what I mean
-
I have the RDA slotted/dimpled jobbies with Ferodo 2500s, they work fine... done a couple of track days and a couple of motorkhanas and they haven't let me down yet
-
haha thank you! no just being hard on myself cos I was having a shocker and kept making an ass of myself in front of the big boy who was loving serving up the trash talk! so I handed him the keys at the end of the day in the hope he would spin too... he didn't and I cried all the way home
