  1. Hey Chad, thanks again for the feedback and your offer to assist, much appreciated. I may take you up on it in the future. It's been along time since I worked on a car motor, for the last 15 years or so it's been just motorbikes. It's not the task itself that's the problem more my time and location. Car lives in a carport as the garage is full of bikes & home theatre and the weather at the moment just sucks - as you know. I'm sure an oppertunity will present itself in the near future and as the car seems to be running fine I'm not stressing to much. It'll give me a chance to finally use my 1/2" socket set as I'd never use that size on motorbikes. I actually just got of the phone to the service manager at City Nissan. He and I together looked over and discussed your photos and the situation. He was very good, and accommodating, and will be briefing his staff accordingly. The rest now is up to me but I will report back to them my findings and we'll see what feedback I get from them. I must add that the 100k service was done very well and I have no complaints other than this situation. I will use them again as I found the price reasonable and the staff very good. The loan car they gave me was very good, a Qashqai (don't know why they wouldn't give me a GTR) and they gave my car a groom before I picked it up...all good. One question for you chad, would it be possible to add an in-line filter or a catch bottle to the EGR valve line instead of blocking it off? I like the idea of re-routing the rocker cover breather but feel reluctant to block off the EGR valve as it must serve a purpose specific to the DD motors and eliminating it might cause other issues. I understand what they have been used for in the past and I a bit surprised they are still used but there must be more to their continued use. I've rebuilt L28 Z motors years ago so dealt with it all then but why are they used here. Catalytic convertors alone seem ok with normal petrol engines why do they need to recirculate exhaust with a DD motor? More research needed, or maybe you and others will have the answers.....I have always just ripped all emission gear off bikes as it just robs power and like to keep things simple but these engines are a little different! Cheers.
  2. Hey Chad, nice work there and thanks for the photos. Not a very nice looking situation under all that, actually that is really just plain scary looking and I must say i'm a little disappointed I didn't know about this earlier, probably wouldn't have got a Neo-di as I really don't need the extra maintaince with this. Hopefully once cleaned out and with the use of good fuels and oils it may not reappear as quickly. I had asked City Nissan to pull apart the plenum and clean it as part of my service, unfortunitely they did not do this. After putting it on their diagnostic computer they found all parameters to be in spec so they deamed it unnecessary. I was disappointed with this and will now have to find both time and location (and good weather) to look at this myself. Still with your good work & photos the task doesn't appear as hard, just time consuming which is the biggest hurdle I have at the moment. I need the car everyday to ferry the kids to school & back and I work in the weekends. Oh well, one day!
  3. Parked next to a lovely 350GT coupe today in Takapuna, silver with big feet & an aftermarket twin exhaust. And on the other side of the road about 3 cars down was a 250GT sedan again in silver. My M35 was between them..looked good! I've got two M35 250RS that live close to me, see them parked all the time and an early RS4 that lives on my road...dime a dozen over here .
  4. Ha ha, not a bad problem to have really! I know what you mean though, could also do with more man space .
  5. I'll ask the guy's at City Nissan when I take it for a service next week.
  6. Ah ah, the question now is what will you put in that new found space? Opps no, you already have another car to go there sorry....would have been a nice space for a bike . You did very well with the sale in such a buyers market but it really was a first to see would buy senario. Lovely car! I even mentioned it to a few friends. Hope the new guy treats it as well and that the shed at sandspit is effective. I might even see it this summer as we have family up there.
  7. I second all these opinions. My one and only experience many years ago mirrored your description here. And congrat's on selling the S1 today. I knew it wouldn't take long, best example I've seen .
  8. Hi win4ever, I have just ordered the band expander from EDL and asked the guy if I would need two. He said has found one to be enough and recommended the PB2000N ( N for nissan) @ NZ$65 incl. + $5 for courier. Check the website it's quite informative. I'll update you all once the service is done but $285 seems reasonable. Mine will be a large 100k service and the estimate started at $400. I'll be asking for a couple of additional things done like a trans. flush and plenum clean ( as I want them to see the build up as per the other thread on this subject). After this I will be doing most of the routine servicing myself. Mine is the 3.0L i.e. VQ30DD. Cheers.
  9. That looks awesome dude! Love the wheels, that's how I'd like mine to look. Can I ask what size your tyres are? Is that with standard ride height as well? Cheers.
  10. Damn that's some difference, thanks heaps for the pics . Priority no.1 for us new owners I'd say.
  11. Yeah I got Shauns details from the threads here and youtube. Just wasn't sure if he knew anything more. Mine will be done in due course, it's down the priority list but on there none the less. Interesting that I might need a disc for the conversion and thanks for the offer to assist. I'll let you know when I'm ready. Cheers.
  12. Ha ha that would be hard case listening to endless Japanese chatter. I do not have the disc so all is quiet, probably a blessing but I would like to get hold of one to see it in action. As for the translation, I am aware thru this site that the translation for an S2 has not been done but it might be informative to give the following a call. I have his business card and he claims to convert all V35 & M35 computers. He makes no distinction between the series. He is Shaun Hoines and is in New Lynn. His number is 021 182 4522. He quoted me NZ$280 for a full conversion. I would also like to find out more about the lower plenum removal before diving in and finding out I need to order a lower gasket or something. I might ask Nissan to do it at service time if I can't find any further info.
  13. Thanks Spong, I'll contact these guy's as I need to put this in. I have a 100k service booked for 30th of June at City Nissan Takapuna. Once done I'll update you all on the details and my experience. Also I noted that the interior of the V35 & M35 look to be very similar. It does look like the Stagea is just a wagon body slapped on a slightly longer skyline. Both are great cars!
  14. You make a good point about the amount of crud potentially there. I think I'll pull it apart first. Did you remove the bottom half or clean it in place? Early days for me but economy is sitting around 7.6 to 7.8 km per litre as per the computer display. This is only around town and no motorway yet. A tune and clean out should see improvement. I'll also give the inspection hatch removal a go as well. Cheers!
  15. Nice buy! If I didn't have to cart 2 kids around I would have looked closely at a V. As for the gunk I'll be giving the car a service after treating for the reasons you mentioned. Apparently it can smoke something cronic for a few minutes till it's all gone. I think it will all pass thru without effecting anything as many have used the stuff already and I've not read off an issue. I'm more worried a neighbour will call the fire brigade...or worse, the greenies.
  16. I'm loving this 300RX and I don't really mind the peaky power...it does fair rip up top don't it! Kind of works like my bikes anyway, they like the upper rev range as well. I like the mild manner down low too as it suits just cruising around town and I've usually got my kids in tow so it's really smooth. Give it some and it feels stronger than the '06 3.6 SV6 Commy I had. It is such a comfy, cruisy wagon but has a powerful, good handling alter ego. Very nice. Might try the inspection hatch just to hear the pickup, but how do you get on in the rain? Have you checked it now that it's pissisting so much.
  17. Ha ha, your response to the 'hard of hearing' was perfect.
  18. Got my car back now and all is good. They replaced the laser & the laser drive gear with new so hopefully I'll get a good run now. Just had a wheel alignment & a brake skim done plus some Bendix DB1232's added, feels alot better now, no more shudder. Service at Nissan to follow shortly but I'll be doing the oil change. I've got Motul 300v & a Nismo Veruspeed oil filter # 15208-RN010. K&N filter will be going in and plenum will be cleaned out. Then it'll be out with the TV tuner to be modded by Chris.
  19. Would you guy's stop shouting I can hardly hear the music!
  20. There is a wrecker in Papakura @ 73 Hunua Rd. He's apparently got 2 complete M35's that he's breaking up. He's listed one on 'trade me' or give him a call on 09 298 6138. Cheers!
  21. Hey how you going! New Stag owner here. I'll be using City Nissan soon enough for my 100k service and trans flush. I heard good things and I've spoken with them, they seem to know what's what with imports and claim to have done quite a few. I'll let you know how I get on in due course. As for petrol to use, I'll probably use BP as it's close to home. I've used it for years in cars and bikes without problem and have found the small increase in economy to almost offset the price. Otherwise if caught elsewhere I'd just put any 95 premium in for the short term.
  22. That's all good to hear, thanks for that. I can't wait to get mine back, clean it all out and go for a fang in the country. I thought it had gone to a stereo repair shop but it's actually gone back to the compliance centre...to fix the radio! Oh well so long as it's fixed soon!
  23. Damn it's all good news . When (probably not 'if') it stuffs up again I guess we'll have to rip it out and give it the proper treatment! Maybe I should've bought the silver one with the standard deck... Oh well, at least the speakers, sub & amp can stay!
  24. Ha ha it's true! It was the only clean photo I knew off when I signed up. Mine is identical though, inside & out. Once I have a chance to clean it, between showers, I'll get one up. I'm lucky with the dealer though, Buy Right Cars in Panmure. Firstly it's been less than two weeks and secondly (rather ignorantly) I specifically requested a Bose system and they raved about this one. They might try it on once they get the repair bill though. At this stage they've said they will repair it, as they 'have a guy', and will provide me a loan car. Can't really ask for better than that!
  25. Yeah I bet replacing the unit as a whole would be their first option, they have a few on the yard. I'll be sure to specify a new laser. If they want me to go away they'd better do it right.
