Fresh from Japan pics
changi replied to Beer Baron's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
hi, I haven't been able to bring up the pics included in this post; can you tell me how to/where I'm going wrong?. -
my suggestion is to; fix the rb25, sell it, and then take the money from that sale and add it to the $15k+ you will spend on the rb30 conversion, then buy a GTR r32/33. that way you will get performance and protect your money because the GTR will hold it's value much better than any re-engined car. what do you think your car would be worth after the conversion?.

Importing R32 Gtr
changi replied to shepo's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
thanks for that, I have a GTR arriving [brisbane] on the 22nd Mar which I basically sourced using the grading system, and an agent to follow up and do an inspection. I believe i am getting a good car because I went to japan to talk to the agent and gave clear instructions; but I also know that there may be a few surprises when I actually eyeball the car . when the car clears customs etc, I will post [incl photos] all of the 'surprises', both good and bad, to give others' an idea of the pitfalls/advantages I encountered importing this way. this has been an interesting topic; thanks to all those experienced in the 'art' of importing who have contributed, I for one have learnt plenty here. -
Importing R32 Gtr

Hi, good post; how much credance can be put on the Japanese vehicle grading system ie: 1-5 [exterior] and A-D [interior]?. the highest priced GTR32 I saw during my search was JY 3,000000; that was a 4.5, A, with genuine 9k klm. -

Importing R32 Gtr

car dealers' and private sellers have been dudding buyers' [in all countries] since Henry Ford had his brilliant idea. buying in Aus is no garauntee the klms reading is accurate, or that the car is not misrepresented in some other way. -
the car hasn't been found.

yes they do. any victim of crime is entitled to attend court hearings. regards

Importing R32 Gtr

yeah, you are on the right track, take your time if you can. do you want it for an everyday drive, or for just weekends?. when I was looking in Aus, good low Km 32s [GTR] were rare and expensive; $35k-$37k. that's why I ended up in Japan. I was looking for a one owner, low km, with log books and as I said, eventually found one. regards -
Importing R32 Gtr

hi, I am half way through the process of importing a GTR [32]; that is I had an agent in Japan purchase a car for me, the car is now awaiting shipment to Aus. it will arrive 22Mar. I think the key to answering your queation is; what condition/standard of car do you want. there are plenty of poor examples of GTR r32 here in Aus, the good examples [4-4.5; A-B] are not easy to find so they are still bringing good prices. . obviously there are many more good examples in Japan. the prices of good r32 are defintely on the increase in Japan; collectors' are becoming interested in unmodded, quality cars. after looking into it pretty thoroughly, I believe I could get a better car by importing, but I; [1] used an agent, [2] gave very specific instructions, [3] was willing to wait for a car that met my requirements, [4] did all of the 'hack' work [arrange compliance, shipping agent, etc] myself and got as much photographic/mechanical evidence of the car's condition as possible. also, it helps the piece-of mind if you feel you can trust your agent. If you are not in a rush to get a car, go up on the Japan auction sites and get a feel for the market then just do the math. a good agent will walk you through the process. I enjoyed the process; checking what cars were coming up for sale, then seeing what they sold for/orpassed in at, then, finally, targeting the car you want through the agent. anyway, good luck ,hope you get what you want. -
good point, maybe they will just party, party, party!!. then go back to the cells. sounds like a blast!.

the police say that he has either; [1] sold the car in one piece, in which case he already has the money: or [2] has the car stashed somewhere, in which case he can sell the car when he gets out, as parts or whole and will get the cash then. so; he has been given 3 yrs, may get out in one year. if he only does one year he has made pretty reasonable wages, considering he has had free: food, board, medical, trendy clothes, full gym/sports, councilling etc etc regards.
-
hard or easy; it's still "time". seeing as he is getting caught on a regular basis, if he goes back to stealing cars , he better get used to doing more "time". meanwhile there will be less cars stolen here-abouts. sounds fair enough.

cool dream; a good bedtime story for little kids who are thinking of car theft as a possible career path!. do you remember what brand of tape you used in the dream; could I get some at Bunnings??!. regards
-
agreed, I hope; he changes his 'career' choices, and if not, he stays away from skylines.

dark blue was my first choice when looking for this one; funnily enough, I had a chance to get a blue one when I bought my first GTR but decided on the gunmetal because it was in better condition. I didn't know then that dark blue is a relatively rare colour. when I was searching the auction sites in Japan looking this time, I checked out hundreds of post June '92 r32 GTRs and only saw 2 blues come up for sale in 2 months. the other one was a totally modded out wreck. regards

yep, I had the last one for 6 yrs; a lot of time, effort and $$ invested. more care this time.
-
I like your style but he stole 3 cars in October ['07] alone, so there would be a "slave share" programme written up.
-
yeah, that's what the proscutor said. I'll be keeping tabs on him; he's been orderded to pay restitution when he gets out; I'm not holding my breath waiting for that!!. regards
-
no.... but I see where you are going with this!. this one has full docu'/service history and looks the part. I've done all I can to check the validity of the clock reading. if it turns out otherwise it wont be the first, nor the last time a car deal turns shitty.

no argument about those convicted of serious assault charges...that wasn't the question, and I'm not pissed off. just trying to see what SAU members' think about car theft/the law regarding car theft. regards

hi all, some of you may remember I posted a topic [stolen GTR R32] in December. there were many of you that wished me luck with the outcome; thanks for that. anyway, here is the outcome. the thief was eventually brought to court [it took four court appearances to actually nail him down; slimey] and the magistrate gave him 3 yrs for his thieving ways. the facts of this case are that he stole the car, got caught about 2 weeks later, but refused to tell police where the car was. I went to all four court appearances; just to see how the "System" deals with this type of crime. the facts about the thief; he is in his very early 20's and has been stealing cars as career, it seems, since the age of 16. whilst stealing cars was the mainstay of his income, he dabbled in breaking/entering, etc, etc. all in all a wrapsheet of 5 pages showed that he couldn't care less about taking other people's property, causing financial loss and the disruption of the lives of the victims. my point here is, is three years enough?. is it too much?. three years is a loooonng time when you have only lived 20+!!. the system has failed to change his habits. something is not working. what else can be done?; one traffic branch cop reckons 'broken legs' stops them because they [the thieves] cant get their feet on the pedals!!.. the saddest thing [apart from losing my GTR] was seeing the thief's Mom in court and watching her cry when the magistrate handed down the sentence. such is life. the good news is my new GTR R32 is on it's way from Japan to Brizzy. bought at auction, 1992, dark blue, 30k km, one owner, stock standard.
