That's a brilliant result, well done mate. There never seems to be a quiet weekend at the track though, does there?

Building An Rb26 For Response....
Duncan replied to Antimatter's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
sure, and the reason is that those guys are happy to spend $200k+ to build their cars But it's certainly not for response, they are about the furthest away from street cars you can get. They just need 500kw to get near those pesky evos. anyway, let the ego talking continue! no point talking on topic in the wasteland, or wherever this thread is. -
R33 Gtr F Driver Side Drive Shaft
Duncan replied to andre_gtr's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
nope the snap ring stays in the front diff BTW good luck to you that it came out easy....sometimes they can be an utter bastard -
well actually, I did cause uproar in the world of environmentally friendly greenie cars..... it's now running on these: a set of lovely nismo/rays wheels made for the nismo leaf. Also I put some Dunlop Sport maxx tyres on them. the rest of the leaf world were horrified that I had put performance ahead of potential range....I just enjoy how quick the damn thing is now

Building An Rb26 For Response....
Duncan replied to Antimatter's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Paul I've seen wear in both types of engines I've pulled down....standard 100-200,000klm ones with standard clearances, and also it's pretty obvious in the race engines too (under 10,000klm at rebuild) because you can see it against the cross hatches. I didn't mean to start a war on this, just point out that there is a reason that OS Giken and for that matter Nissan, didn't just stuff the biggest crank they could fit in a 26 height block. BTW I have a car with a twin charged engine, and it does have excellent response for it's capacity (0.9l) -
if you need to turn it into money sell it to Fatz to strip

Building An Rb26 For Response....
Duncan replied to Antimatter's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
well I don't think it's that simple, a couple of cars making lots of power for a few klm isn't really the whole story. I'm sure you've seen the same, every time I pull down an rb26 with a few klm on it there is plenty of sideways wear on the bore. hell when it comes down to it you can even fit a rb30 crank into an rb26 block with a little clearancing, but it's just not good for a long and happy engine life. -
Building An Rb26 For Response....
Duncan replied to Antimatter's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Ironic that this thread started with a post about going off topic...and yet here we are again! Anyway, a quick comment on this: There is a much more important difference in the RB30/OS Giken 3l/GTRNUR versus a stroked crank in a standard RB26 block. One of the biggest weaknesses in the rb26 setup even from standard is the high rod/stroke ratio which means that poor little piston is rocking back and forth in the cylinder at a million miles an hour compared to taller engines where they spend more time going up and down with less angle. Putting a 2.8/2.8 or god forbid even 2.9 crank into an rb26 block exacerbates this issue. The engine is less efficient and wears more. Putting a taller block in helps reduce the problem -

This sounds like an interesting set of events, good on the exec for putting it together. Can you confirm this will be covered by a CAMS permit? -

Brembo Brakes Squealing....again...
Duncan replied to Deza3000's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
yeah brake noise sucks! but even on the race car with race pads I've been lucky enough never to have the problem. As I understand it, a major source can be dust/rust/whatever between surfaces, in particular where the disc sits against the hub. Give that a good clean down and if necessary a bit of wire brush to make sure there is no rust on the hub. Also thoroughly clean every mating surface with brake cleaner. While that is simple, you'd be surprised how many brake shops don't clean properly; brake cleaner is expensive. BTW you said you were using hawk pads but not which compound? It may well be that they just don't enjoy street use if they are aggressive. Swapping cheap pads to track pads can be quick so there is no need to compromise for a daily driver -
well if you know it was working in another car that is much easier. by far the most likely reason to not idle with a changed map would be different injector or AFM size but I guess you would know that already from the other car

I'm not at all familiar with the m35 nismo ECU....but in all other nissans I know of the nismo ECU it is just a modified standard ECU. If it's the same, it is almost certainly a faulty ECU, nothing to do with the fact it is nismo modified or not.

well I'd love to see it happen but I am no longer involved with, or willing to be part of, the NSW committee. I'd suggest you contact the new Pres Ciaran (crashdown) and make the suggestion.

man I remember that BMC saga from the old days....you had some shit luck there. FWIW I told Neil to buy a new one not to f**k around rebuilding the old one..... Good to hear Cheryl is still behaving...get some new tyres and that boost coming on earlier and it should be a ball.

I looked into in when I was running the NSW club, even had a mechanic setup to do the inspections. but we couldn't find the initial 5 cars for CAMS to register us. I guess it will happen once R32s are 30 years old...which is only 5 years away now

thanks I'm happy to cop shit from the usual suspects so that SAU doesn't become like that thread. I still believe this community has value

Thanks for mentioning the thread guys, it was bullshit. Cleaned up now but it should never have had that much crap for so long. Generally...if someone sees a thread that needs cleaning up please report it. I can't speak for all mods but I for sure don't have time to actively moderate every thread, especially ones that I am not officially a mod for.
