But "affordable" is very relative when you are talking about door to door racing. It's brilliant fun but like most things in life that makes it very expensive. Club racing (non CAMS) will probably cost $5-20k for the car + $500-1000 per round in tyres, fuel, travel etc. CAMS state racing $20-50k for a good car (or 200k+ in sports sedans) +1000-5000 per round (depends how many sets of brand new tyres you can afford per race). I run at this level National race series $50-$200k to buy a car, and say 20-50k a year to run considering travel, crew, tyres/brakes/oil/fuel, maintenance and repairs. Supercars, Porsche cup or Superlap $200-500k for the car and 100k+ per year to run. Tarmac rallies 50-500k for a competitive car + 20-100k for a full year (3-4 rallies). So...I guess the main thing is to be realistic about where you can fit in. If it is under the club racing budget stick to track days and enjoy them....if you can't afford track days enjoy motorkhanas at $50 a pop.

Yeah skylines aren't on the Category 2 list yet (looks sideways at Brad....) Agree Silvias are cheap, but so is a 32 gtst (couple of thousand to buy and cage). If you want to race skylines because you like them (as good a reason as any in my book) and you aren't going to bash your head against the CAMS rules, I think a 32 gtst is a good choice. Decent suspension layout inc double wishbone front Lots of aftermarket support Engines range from $500 wrecker rb20s up to rb26/30 for $$$ Relitively light Can run very large wheels/tyres, up to 18x10 with GTR front guards.

Good to hear....MRA and iRace is the place for sure, nice and cheap to get going. As for where that would take you "seriously", either MRA or iRace will allow you to spend enough to get close to the front of the field, eg rb30/26 at 10" slicks on a 32 gtst. If you want to run CAMS forget a skyline unless you like paying a lot to go slow

OK, some logistics from WSID for our day. SCHEDULE and BASIC RULES Spectator Entry (Gate 16) opens 7:30am Registration and Scrutineering 7:30am – 9:45am Driver/Crew/Media Start Line Briefing (compulsory) 9:45am Grudge Racing starts 10:00am Lunch Break 1:00pm – 1:30pm Grudge Racing resumes 1:30pm – 4:00pm Gates close/Venue secured 5:00pm 1. Enter the venue via the main Spectator Entry (Gate 16) from 7:30am. 2. Once inside the venue, turn right at the spectator road roundabout, then left into the disabled car park. Tickets will be distributed within this car park area. 3. Once you have your ticket(s), drive slowly through the roundabout and down Castlereagh Boulevard toward the ticket booth. Ticket(s) will be checked and torn and entry forms will be issued to all drivers and second drivers at this point. 4. Now proceed slowly along Castlereagh Boulevard and gather in the pit/paddock area. 5. Please complete your entry form while you are in the pit/paddock area. 6. Drivers and second drivers: bring your completed entry form, driver’s licence and ticket on-foot to the time card office. Please don’t bring your car to scrutineering yet. It only causes traffic congestion. 7. Crew members and approved media: bring your tickets to the time card office. 8. Registration officials will process your entry form, help you with the indemnity form and issue the appropriate wristband in exchange for your ticket. 9. Now bring your vehicle around for scrutineering (scrutineering bay 1 or 2). 10. Once your vehicle has passed scrutineering and a race number has been issued, you may join the staging lanes (2 or 4) in preparation for a start to racing. 11. All drivers, second drivers, crew members and photographers must attend the track safety briefing at the start line at 9:45am. The track will be open for racing immediately following this brief meeting. 12. Pit/paddock area speed limit is 10km/h; return road speed limit is 20km/h. 13. Test burnouts and launches are strictly prohibited anywhere within the venue other than through the waterbox behind the start line. No “testing” may be conducted on any vehicle while in motion except on the racing surface. Breaches will result in disqualification. 14. Crew members: may accompany their vehicle to the start line area while it is racing, but must then vacate the area or move behind the blue barriers to the left of the start line. 15. Spectators: must remain behind spectator safety fences at all times during the event. 16. Only approved photographers may remain in the trackside photo areas, adjacent to the safety barriers, for extended periods during the event. 17. This track hire is sanctioned by the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA). Accordingly, all ANDRA, Sydney Dragway and statutory regulations apply. 18. Please do not hesitate to ask a Sydney Dragway official should you have further questions, need assistance or more information. Some basic rules at a glance… Strictly no alcohol permitted No glass containers permitted No animals permitted No thongs or sandals permitted on or near the start line area (a wristband will not be issued to anyone not wearing fully enclosed footwear) You must have a wristband to be anywhere forward of the control tower (i.e. drivers, crew and media only) Spectators must remain in designated spectator areas Spectators must not cross over spectator fences, congregate on or near the return road or use the return road tunnel as a short-cut to the pit/paddock area All speed limits are to be observed No ‘test burnouts or launches’ permitted anywhere except on the racing surface Any drivers quicker than 12.000-seconds must hold a current ANDRA Super Street Licence as a minimum No vehicle capable of running quicker than 11.000-seconds may participate at this event.

No, it will be fine once you've wiped it off. But....if you have lost paint, it is more likely to be a slow leak at the master cylinder or brake booster than due to you spilling it while bleeding. Have you been noticing the fluid level dropping in the brake system?

sure....I put a breather/catch can up near the brake master cylinder...and refill the box after each race meet.....and degrease under the car often....and park it over an oil catch tray. fixed easy!

Sorry to hear Geoff....how are you going gettting it fixed. spot on. the same company made us pay an excess after a taxi hit the z while parked, even though we gave them and the police the number plate of the cab that did it.

Yes, I have had the same issue with the race car....it continually breathes smurf blood Interesting....I bought mine about 12 months back, and from a very dodgy shop. Got any more info?

mate I haven't been out for a reason....car is borken and house isn't finished. what ever happened to all those MRA build cars it's a great race series for those that can't afford to spend x00,000s on $uperlap!

For those who have removed them, how did you go with the glue that attaches them? looks pretty permanent to me....

btw insurance is not an issue for hosting a night, we can provide $20M public liability insurance for a social event via CAMS.

The first evening has already been booked for 2 week's time at the Federal Tyres Warehouse, because tyres are the most basic thing to know about cars, and have a huge impact on it's performance.
