  1. hmm wierd. maybe fixed now?
  2. club group buy is in my sig
  3. yeah for sure. in fact I can't think of many motors longer and heavier than a complete rb26. but this has reasonable design, box sections and bolts. better than I expect from supercheap
  4. yeah got my acls today too. but like i said these ones were old stock.
  5. Hi mate, I sent the forms off a day or 2 after, but you are best to call CAMS. You were meant to have received the 28 day temporary license from the bottom of the form but I guess someone forgot to give it to you
  6. Arthur did you break any glass removing it? my last attempt was 2 broken from 6 so I never tried again. cheaper to get a windscreen bloke out to do it Picked up one of these at supercheap today because no decent shop was open. $120 and looks pretty good surprisingly.
  7. hmmm killing many of them....surely a short in the wiring to the afm. Try and check the wiring as far back as you can. Also have a look at the ECU harness for the AFM
  8. Dave (and everyone else for that matter) this thread is not about why my engine failed. That discussion will take place off the internet with the workshop involved. This thread is about oil analysis, and what typical and atypical results look like.
  9. whoops. but honestly....that is why the admin/mod team on SAU keep a short lead on threads....who needs that sort of shit to deal with?
  10. Joe, the shop you are thinking of have never built a motor for my race car. They have built 2 other motors for me and both are lasting well. And I'll never delete a post unless it breaks a rule Dan I'm waiting for the engineers report...the workshop beleive oil starvation would affect the mains but not the big ends (initially). I don't understand that point of view so I had a 3rd party look into it.
  11. NSW still has rally rego (allows cages) for dirt rally cars AFAIK. Not for tarmac rally (none in NSW) and certainly not for track cars. To be honest I just thought pretty much everyone got a friendly inspection station to pass them. except me of course, I am still on the old scheme and a total angel
  12. yeah that same filter is used for heaps of cars. even commodores since vls I think. Anyway....I have heaps of trouble with some brands....the airbox is just a really tight ft
  13. not going anywhere with them....but it is off being milled this week. not impossible that I will get it back for xmas again. funnily enough i already have a motor to build next week for the race car
  14. not sure, the machine shop can decide. the mains are pretty bad though and there is scoring so odds are it throw away. probably bent too, they normally are after this sort of thing. this isnt meant to be the report my engine failure thread though, I'm sure there is one of those somewhere....
  15. change is both inevtiable and good. I guess I can't talk about what I did to my stagea today in this thread tho.
  16. pulled the motor apart today, the the main bearings were f**ked although not spun yet, and the big ends were almost perfect (just some foreign damage, I guess as the mains died). Good call Dan so 1 point to the oil analysis. Does anyone have results for a motor just after run-in?
  17. 2 chat threads merged....only 1 per forum section
  18. lol i think they are getting less serious. we now own the super turbo from ep15
  19. Last page cleaned up by a useless admin. Keep chat to the chat thread, there is already one in this section and we don't need every thread in here to be taken over by chat. Warnings/bannings for continued off topic chatting
  20. lol pete is visitng ryan's place/???
  21. c'mon guys, its a free intro to motorsport day. you can't really complain if you are not a n00b (ie have held a cams license). the idea is to give people a no cost chance to have a look at motorsport. ML73ZR, you would have to check the details, but I understand having a road license or not will not be an issue.
  22. that was pretty much what i was thinking. ahh well its good not to be bored at xmas.
  23. hey I'd be happy to be wrong on this one!
  24. Hi Dan, no this is regular 98. Interesting reminder about E85 and oils though. One question I still have for you.....do the bearing levels look high enough to assume the motor is dead/nearly so? ie should I pull it out and strip it to check? I know its hard to guess on the interweb but just interested what you would do if you got that report.....
  25. Well...the context is that it is only 7 days old....but they are race days. The motor has done about 1000klm and is on it's 4th oil change and 4th oil filter. Any initial wear should be long gone. Anyway, I spoke to the lab today. Basically their take on it is very high bearing levels is.....looks bad but motor is not necessarily dead....change the oil and check again after next race day. most likely cause of bearing damage is oil not OK (as shown by viscosity being 50-70% of rated, ie around 30 instead of 50.) most likely cause of oil breakdown, given the quality brand and number of inclusions showing it is a quality synthetic, is fuel in the oil.
