  1. f**k this thing is loud on the inside. don't know how happy stu was with it....but I was lucky enough to do some laps in the passenger seat and: a. it goes like stink b. handles pretty good and c. stu seems to handle a steering wheel pretty good. the dino-line is a unusual setup but its working damn well.
  2. 930cc eh? since it was a motorsport event I think we should x1.7 for the turbo = 1581cc and x1.7 for the super charger = 2.6l. matt....the 47 was on a session with no passenger...but I'll chuck some stuff on youtube tommoz from the passenger laps
  3. great fit on that main hoop - bent up by bond?
  4. well that day got off to a shit start but I think turned up well in the end. I think a few of the guys gave up when there was sfa track time by 12 due to the medical issues on the kart track....but they missed a great afternoon. Other than the commodore wagon everyone got to drive home...and despite a couple of offs, no-one bent anything. I can't think of a better way to farewell oran park. Well done in particular to the new guys who made their track debut in apalling conditions....I don't know if I would have done my first session in that sort of weather. I did sessions with Rosie and Nick who both drove well, and also with Stu - he was flying in the dino-line. And for once both cars Kel and I took drove home on their own. The March needs different offset wheels or rolled guards before it hits the track again, it was impossible to hold any corner speed....shame because I think it has a lot of potential. And the skyline lasted a whole day with a best of 47sec in the arvo session. Eric I've got video from the arvo session for you...256mb of high def goodness. pm me your mailing address and I'll send a dvd over
  5. hahah its a funny little thing. whir.....whoosh....pscht and repeat. no surprise not a lot down low (it does have less cc than a carton of milk) but it goes amazing in the midrange and top end. nissan did some incredible things in the early 90s.....this thing is 750kg, will make about 100kw once we do some small changes, alloy block, revs to 8k etc etc
  6. see ya'll tomorrow guys! looks like I'm leaving the slicks at home but it will still be a good day. Please get there 7.30-8am if you can to make it easier for the scruitineers to get through the cars. And if you get there at or after 8.30 don't expect to run in the first session. And finally....don't forget its an hour earlier due to daylight savings *ugh* As per the posts above, because we are not full, we will except entries on the day (cash only), come and see one of the organisers nice and early. No passengers on the day, only designated instructors (they will have different arm bands). I'd suggest everyone grab an instructor for 1 or more sessions to make the most of the day. Weather forecast is "Showers. Cloudy. " so probably drier than today. when its wet you should run 2psi more in your tyres than normal, if you have adjustable swaybars set them to soft, and if you have adjustable shocks also set them to soft.
  7. yeah still run semis for sure, as long as they have a fiar bit of tread. Don't run semis with low tread on wet days they are a "handful". Also some semis are better than others, a048r are good, v70a/dz03 are OK, re55 are average. All still better than road tyres though .....just need to be a little more careful on the throttle and smooth in the corners....both of which are what we should all be practicing anyway BTW I'm not convinced weather will be an issue tomorrow, bom.gov.au says: Forecast for Saturday Rain periods, possible moderate falls. Sunday A few showers. This means that most likely we will have 50-80% dry sessions, and a couple might be damp depending on where the shower are in sydney.
  8. but if thos pics are not yours.....getting it started the first time can be really difficult, there is a ciclip in there to stop ths shaft coming out easily. lever it from multiple points between the slot on the driveshaft and the diff cover bolts with bid screwdriver / pry bar. if you are that far out and stuck you must have it cocked at an anle somehow...straighten by tapping on the side of the driveshaft and it should pop right out. unless you cant get it any further because the other end is stopping it....in which case doo doo covered it
  9. in fact....you may want to review the forum section for rb30 builds http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/RB...sions-f184.html
  10. grub screwing is just a more reliable/re-serviceable way to plug the galleries than the factory pressed in plugs. you need to remove the plugs to clean the shit out of the oil galleries
  11. wow the storm *do* have a fan! I wonder if there will be any others at the game tomorrow.
  12. The UAS single piece ones are an excellent way to go. Simple exhcange process, fit straight in, well tested after having sold heaps of them, and cheap. I've just put one in the new race car. Every single r32 gtr tailshaft I've seen (and I've seen heaps) has a stuffed centre bearing, and badly worn unis. No point looking for second hand, and as you said the price of rebuilding to standard is just as high as the chromolly single peice one (because the centre cv is very expesnive to source)
  13. absolutely.....having the right (or wrong) parts makes no differences unless the clearences are correct. And people are very happy to blame oil pumps or whatever else due to more basic things being incorrect. I've used many engine shops over the years, and the only thing I am 100% sure about, is that after the machine shop measures everything, the engine assembler needs to double check all clearances....I've found problems in 20-50% of motors I've checked. And one I didn't check already holds its place in this thread where a clearance mistake wrecked a brand new n1 block. So, my recommendation....if you get someone to assemble a motor for your...instruct them to note down the results of the measuring, tell them no payment without this information. And when it arrives make sure you see the hand-written, oil smeared version. No way would I pay a shop to assemble a motor if they are not willing to write down what they are charging you for anyway.
  14. sure am mate, we're not going to miss a chance to give it a run around Oran Park when there are so few chances left. It will be a good chance to run it after the rebuild because UAS have changed a lot of bits, not just the engine. Plus if it is damp, I love the practice. There are very few wet track days in Aus, but Targa Tas almost always has 1-2 wet days so I need the practice.. plus you learn heaps about car control on damp days. Depending how things go, we might bring the new car as well to see if it has enough power to get right around the track
  15. Duncan we really need you there by 8.30 at latest....all the scruits are volunteers and we want to get it sorted by 9am so we can all enjoy ourselves. I was going to run slicks too but I'll just bring some semis as well in case the weather changes.
  16. btw Ben I got 5 weds from justjap....maybe give steve a bell. looks like everyone is going to be looking for 1 more wheel now...at least I don't have to choose left or right now I can carry one of each
  17. pretty sure i said shitbox, not shitter I understand your choice....but I go the other way...for me I just can't give up everything else a skyline can do OK in for a single event, no matter how much fun it is. Also....I really enjoy the close competition of racing while targa is a little less "immediate" competition
  18. yep...just come and sort it out at scruitineering yep cash is the only option from now....we can't accept entry by xfer this late because the funds wont clear to our bank account best idea by far is to buy something. AFAIK oran park dont hire them out but even if they do, they will be crappy, old, smelly etc. they are pretty cheap to buy a basic one, or if you are stuck post up in here and see if someone has a spare you can borrow for the day you're going to love the difference the sway bars and semis make....that car of yours should be really moving by now. I think Neil already said.....too late for EFT, bring cash on sunday
  19. still plenty of spots available....at least 15 so don't worry about missing out..... while we always want to sort out payments before the day to make organising on the day easier....but in this case we are still well short and will accept payments on the day. Please don't make payments by EFT after 6pm today as they will probably not be received in our account by sunday - and we can't let you on the track without confirming payment.
  20. I've got to tell you Terry...I'm beginning to wonder if fuel companies might just be out to make money at our expense in any possible way. I know that's a big claim but when you put together tricks like following the SGP price (even though the majority of our fuel is refined in aus), changing the bowser price the same day as SQP prices go up even though it was purchased a year ago at lower prices), telling people tuesdays are cheap and then changing to wednesdays for cheap (after everyone has bought fuel on tuesday), showing the "with discount price" in huge writing but the actual price very small, putting prices up 20% before busy weekends, putting 10% ethanol in fuel but not reducing prices, and now charging more and more for a fuel as it becomes more popular (how does that make sense when it is meant to be about covering additional fixed costs for higher level of refining). I'm honestly beginning to wonder if these fuel companies are just large multinational oligopolies with teams of full time people dedicated to working out how to make the most money from their customers! In any case, good on the NRMA for calling it out....with any luck they might make some headway....
  21. hey guys, I need a tracking alarm for a new car, what should I buy? trackers Ive used in the past are rhino gsm and quiktrack but I think there are better/cheaper options. and recommendations to install in sydney
  22. entered the phillip island race meet. hope some of you typers turn up on the grid
  23. good to hear the brand is still alive. its great to have a source of custom sway bars made in aus. i've got selby front and rear bars in the sports sedan, designed directly for the car and it's use.
  24. yeah the standard airbox is painfully tight - and some aftermarket filters are a little large than stadnard which makes it even tighter. to get the clips on, 1 hand to hold the clip almost on, the other tap lightly it with a hammer to click it on
  25. hey mitch you will almost certainly be OK as long as the majority of the tyre is at a legal level. wear on small parts of the tyre are common and not an issue. good stuff guys, 7 more entrants today....still plenty of spots though!
