Thanks for the links mate, that 34 is heaps nice. Wish I had the cash, or someone would buy my cars. Very, very nice. The Mrs does have a keen eye, she picked me hahaha. Edit, didn't see it was an auto. Does the 34 auto have buttons on the wheel to shift up and down? That may make it more appealing, but I really would love a 5 speed. This one seems good http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...#ht_2113wt_1139 It was only like $9,800 or so.

Thanks mate, I haven't had much time behind the wheel of the EA since the engine conversion, but it did have a fair bit more poke than stock N/A skylines aren't that quick, I know. But atleast with a skyline I could have something that doesn't handle like a canoe in the perfect storm haha. My heart is kind of set on waiting the extra year and a half and getting a manual 34 GT-T, they seem like a great car. Terry, thanks mate. Yeah, I don't like FWD's lol, not heaps keen on an AWD car either, so the GT-T seems like a good match for me when I can drive a turbo.

P Platers To Advance To Open Licence Quicker
kawasakirider replied to kawasakirider's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Fair enough mate, wasn't having a dig I was just saying lol. I agree, it takes a good driver to get out of bad situations, which I've done a few times since I've been driving (who knows, maybe I've just been lucky and it's worked out for me) but it also takes a mature driver not to get into as many of those situations compared to a tailgating fag who is a driving like a tool. -
P Platers To Advance To Open Licence Quicker
kawasakirider replied to kawasakirider's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Mate I have to disagree with you there on some points, whilst I agree that there are a lot of unsafe P platers out there, there is a minority that drive like sensible adults whilst on the road. I drive over 100 KM every day (100 KM highway, more driving in town) and I always leave a large gap between myself and other cars on the road. It's not worth risking an accident just to be a dickhead and sit up someone's ass. If they are going too slow, I don't sit up their ass, I wait for an overtaking lane and then work my way up and pass them. If they are doing the speed limit, there is no reason for people to sit on another cars ass because the gap should be easy to maintain (if indeed they are doing the speed limit also). I have been in a crash whilst driving (not my fault and everything was sorted) and I have also been in another crash last year in which the car rolled 3 times and hit a tree (I was a passenger). I understand how quickly things can go wrong (especially riding motocross for a long time, it only takes a split second and you're on the edge of control). It doesn't necessarily take a good driver to get out of bad situations (this should be a given if you are driving on the road, the ability to get out of situations, because it happens frequently, especially the amount of driving I do), but it does take a good driver not to get into those situations in the first place. I don't want to risk my licence, my girlfriends life, my own life and everyone else's on the road. There's a time and a place to drive like a hoon and I believe I can differentiate between the right and wrong times. -
Favourite Car Magazines?
kawasakirider replied to kawasakirider's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Cheers guys, I'll grab an issue next time I'm at the newsagent. -
Hey guys, since I've been reading about skylines and plan to get one, I have this insatiable urge to learn about them. Since I can't learn about them properly until I have one to stuff around with, I want to get a few mags for when I don't have internet access. I usually buy street fords and freerider MX, but I'm sure there are import related magazines out there. I've seen Hot 4's but I guess they are 4 cyl only? If they are, I'm not interested. Is there a 6 cyl import specific mag (one for skylines, supra's, soarers etc)? What magazines do you guys read that are car related? Sorry if this is a silly post, I searched but couldn't find anything.

3 Cars, Fs Or Swap.
kawasakirider replied to kawasakirider's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
Cheers mate! I read it in the Sunday Mail (I have a topic about it, if you search my posts you'll find it). I rang QLD transport today for confirmation and was told that it looked like it was going to go ahead but hasn't been given the OK just yet. There will obviously be a huge press release, due to the fact it will be a pretty controversial plan. The sooner the better I say, haha. The info on the net is limited, so I'm really hoping the Sunday Mail and the QT person I spoke to this morning wasn't blowing smoke up my ass. -
3 Cars, Fs Or Swap.
kawasakirider replied to kawasakirider's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
Thanks for the well wishes, I hope it's a painless change lol. Skylines are excellent, just like a sexy road going go kart haha (the hicas scares me though, will definitely be budgeting a lock out bar so I can have it done ASAP after I buy one). I don't have a family of my own so I don't need a bus lol. I'm on my P's for another year and a half or so, but QLD has introduced a new law stating that P platers can advance to their open licence if they complete a defensive driving course. I'm selling a nitro racing car, so hopefully I'll have enough cash to do the course, then I'll be able to go straight to turbo! -
These probably won't get a great reception here, but I have them up everywhere else so they may as well go up here. I am kinda tired of falcons and I want a change. Interested in a skyline or a supra or some other form of RWD import. N/A of course, because I'm on my P's. Unless you have a nice example turbo'd that could possibly go undetected. If you don't have anything to swap then I will sell. The EA and the Ute have to go before the AU is sold, as it's my daily commuter at the moment. This is my EA. Tried to sell it a few times before when it was having troubles after a BBM conversion... Anyway it's all sorted now and runs. RWC was given with an EB manifold, no longer current but can be arranged again for the car in its current state... The car has 112,000 KM from memory and the engine has 130,000. Clean inside, roof lining is bad, was sagging but repaired (not greatly) but the rest of the interior is great for an EA. It's a fairmont if that means anything to ya. $3500 Comes with a near new gas tank. Needs to be hooked up, was hooked up but that was when car was CFI so it needs to be redone. The car is running an EL ECU, BBM and Airbox. I haven't driven it but even with the EB manifold it had a fair bit of poke, I'm guessing it will go harder now. Make an offer guys. 2000 AU Futura, SR interior. Just over 200,xxx km. Extremely nice car to drive, no performance mods. Always ran on premium and oils changed. Has had slight ding in rear end that I attempted to repair. (see pics) repair $3000 XF ute $800 Also have a 2002 KX 125 that has just had a full rebuild, top and bottom.

P Platers To Advance To Open Licence Quicker
kawasakirider replied to kawasakirider's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I agree with all that, except for the first point. I'm not the worlds best driver and I passed my licence test first go with only one mistake. If you had 3 mistakes, the majority of people will still pass. The stuff they ask you to do in your practical test is extremely easy. You aren't allowed and CDE's, though (critical driver errors). I've never done a defensive driving course, do they always teach how to control oversteer? -
P Platers To Advance To Open Licence Quicker
kawasakirider replied to kawasakirider's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I agree that most young people shouldn't have a high powered car, but I'm confident I can excersize restraint so I won't get into trouble... Some people will try and drive a car to it's limits and exceed their own no matter what car they are in, though. -
The car's jacked up because I was trying to get a look at the engine number to see if it was an NA engine and not a turbo'd engine with the turbo removed. Couldn't see it from the top because the plate was grimy as. Couldn't see it from the bottom because the down pipe was in the way. I called it a cat because I didn't realise the cat was further back (not a skyline genius) and got raped by some people over the phone giving me advice. Live and learn I guess lol. EDIT The cluster pic is there because it must have the GTS4 cluster in it as it says 4wd. The mrs noticed that,

Well the dealer rang me today, just as I thought he would. The person allegedly backed out of the sale. Anyway I had a chance to have more of a chat to him, questioned him about the 5 studs, the speedo etc. It turns out that his son bought that particular skyline with no engine/box and had an N/A GTS-4. The GTS-4 engine went into the chassis with a 5 speed box. Apparently the sump is different or something (dealer told me) on the GTS-4 engine. The car WAS a turbo, the chassis plate says 25DET. I rang QLD transport and they said if it isn't mod plated and has had a turbo removed, I can drive it (which I doubt) and told me to ring the police (which I will). He said he got a RWC for it with the non turbo engine and will be able to get another one if I'm keen. I am pretty sure there's nothing mechanically wrong with the car. He started it up and it sounded really good (stock exhaust so really quiet) but extremely smooth. I got some photo's of some things.... this looks a bit suss, I asked him what it was and he said it was surface rust repair. Looks like a lot of bog for surface rust, but it's the only spot on the car with bog.
-
Cheers for the info mate, it never occured to me that it could have been a GTST with the turbo removed. Yeah insurance is a bitch, but I'd probably get it registered in my grandfathers name and have me down as a driver on the policy. I potentially have some good news (for me) and some bad news (for all you P plater loathers out there, haha). I was reading the Sunday Mail up here and P platers will be able to jump straight onto their open licence if they partake in a defensive driving course. I wish they had introduced this sooner, as I only have a year and a half to go. But still, a defensive driving course would be extremely valuable and it still cuts a year and a half off my "sentence" haha. Might get a GT-T afterall
-
Yeah, the FS section has some amazing cars. The smart option seems to wait and get a 34 GTT once I'm off my P's, but I am really antsy to get into one. Maybe if I can move my cars and find a cheaper (but not dodgy) 33 and then I can move into a 34 GTT later. If I'm buying a turbo'd skyline I'd stretch the wallet and go for a 34, for sure.
-
Cheers mate, pretty regular service. Did you add the turbo later, or buy a GTT? Does anyone know of a shop that do drive in, drive out turbo conversions?
-
Cheers for the info mate! What are the extra things to do when servicing? I'd be inclined to do it myself, so I'll need to know for when the time comes. 3100 at 110? Have you got a lower than normal ratio LSD? I bet you've got tons down low if it revs that high at 110. Where do they safely rev to? Also this is just out of curiosity, what do they top out at (your 34 gtt) if it revs that high 100? I'm so excited to get one, but I am inclined to wait if I can get a better deal... I might even wait till I'm off my P's and get a 34 gtt. I know if I get a 33 now I'd want a turbo'd 34 later, and I can't justify buying a natro 34 if it's such a hassle to upgrade it to the turbo spec later on. Thanks for all your replies everyone!
-
Hahaha, that sucks man. Unr33l, I would man but I'd just be insulting you haha. Payment plan? LOL. Swap for 2 falcons and a ute
-
Cheers mate. I'd post my cars for sale here, but I doubt they'd get a warm reception haha. Yeah, I understand falcons are geared higher, but if you get 350-400 KM to a tank during town driving, the skylines go alright. The falcon would struggle lol, especially the EA. Yeah, I'll worry about the turbo stuff later, was just curious. I'd like to have a monster, but at the same time it isn't really practical. I'd enjoy something I can drive all day every day It sucks, I've been bitten by the bug and I haven't even driven one lol.
-
While I'm at it, I may as well ask questions in here rather than starting a new thread... Is maintaining a skyline more expensive than other cars? I religiously maintain my falcons (oil every 5,000, brakes, tires, etc) and can't see any reason for an N/A skyline to cost any more, but people keep saying they are a money pit. Also, what is an N/A 5 speeds fuel economy like? Keep in mind my current cars are a 2001 AU falcon (auto) and an EA with a 2003 XR6 engine in it (both are 4L engines if you're not familiar with falcons). They both drink a fair bit (the AU is rather economical, though) and I drive 100KM every day (50 Km each way) and extra around town. Is this too much for a daily skyline? Once I get a turboe'd one, is it possible to have it a bit more powerful than your average one, but still be reliable? 250 kw atw sounds excellent, but I feel like it'd be more hassle than it's worth until I'm rich hahaha, so I'm talking relatively sane boost levels and not a ton of $$ in the engine department. That last questions is pretty irrelevant, I'm just curious. BTW, thanks to everyone for the help, I really appreciate it.
-
Cheers for your advice mate, i'll take it on board. I don't have the cash to just drop for an inspection like that I have to wait for my 3 cars to sell and possibly my dirtbike if I get antsy haha, so I'll wait until I have a ton of cash and some more honest cars come up. What I meant by not being able to move it was not being able to sell it. Yeah, I saw the front bar was aftermarket, it didn't occur to me that it was crashed and replaced, though. I just thought the guy skimped on the body kit haha. The radiator support panel didn't seem bent, but I guess people can do wonders with a hammer and a bit of paint, or even re welding one in there. Patience is a virtue, one that I struggly to utilise when something so cheap comes up haha.
-
Thanks for the tip, mate. I'm assuming there's no cheaper way of getting out of it? Could a manual gearbox/engine bay loom and ECU be fitted instead?
-
Ouch... Why is it so expensive? When the box is changed, wouldn't the loom and ECU need to be changed as well, meaning everything should plug in? I thought it had a conversion myself, but may I ask how you can say that it's 100% definitively had one? I believe you, I just wanna know what I can call him on.
-
The interior of the car is in good condition, minus missing the head unit lol. I'd have to take it for a ride. Are there any tell tale signs of abuse when driving a 33? Will you hear knocks if the bushes are ruined etc? The body is EXTREMELY straight. There would be no reason for me not to have a turboe'd car once I'm off my P's, it's just that if I could get into this for cheap as chips it's not like I'm selling my soul to get it. So it's no biggie if I stay with my current car now, or get this skyline, because I probably will get something turbo'd once I'm off my P's. But yeah, the price tag was an alarm bell for me.
