Front Mount Intercooler In A N/a Worth It?
kawasakirider replied to foxy boxy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Get farked. Thread got gay when I stopped posting. Although I laughed a lot at Artz pic of a civic with an intercooled CAI. Can't believe some f**k was dumb enough to do it for real. Must be a Honda thing. -

Glad someone had the balls to reap the benefits of my advice. I bet your car is a completely different animal now, amiright? Good job mate. -

Usually about 10kw, if I'm coming onto boost (farting) about 15-17 depending on the ambient temp at the time. If I use some throttle in a bottle by eating Indian I can generate around 28 ahkw I haven't, but I may consider it. MCM could use some info that is actually useful. -

Disregard matts post. Bring it down to my shop and we'll see what numbers we can pull. That's theoretical numbers btw, I don't have a FWD dyno. Bum dyno will have to do. -

Only Juan? I just told the whole of the N/A section how to gain ~40rwkw for $200 and still have change for beer. -

I've received quite a few PM's asking if I could piece together N/A intercooler kits for people. The answer is no... 1. I don't know what car you have, every car is different (front bar etc) you'll need to mount your stuff so it works, selling a generic kit is bound to generate complaints as I can't be sure it will all fit properly. 2. If you can't plumb an intercooler and a throttle body together, you shouldn't be working on cars. Just enjoy the 100rwkw that your car puts out without my mods. Sorry to be harsh, but it's that simple. -

No, it's from my friends RB20DE my car makes 212.6rwkw and my old engine made 170 something on 6PSI but it never made 130, lol. -

Well does the dyno sheet tell a story or does it mean nothing? There is a duct going to the pod and the pod does take air in through it. The whole idea of a restriction is to build pressure, as I've stated all along. You don't have to try this, it's of no consequence to me if you do this mod or not. You can try it and make your own INFORMED opinion, or you can just be an armchair expert and argue with me. I've provided dyno sheets, pics and information, you and others have just said it doesn't make sense. The figures don't lie. I know a dyno is just a tuning tool and shouldn't be relied upon, but there's roughly a 25% power increase showing in that dyno sheet. Explain it to me if my mods don't work? -

Mate let's not bullshit aye, I can't stand people who come online and talk utter crap. If you're joking, then fair enough, but you and I both know the implications that firing compressed air in ones asshole would have, and if he did it, he'd have more to worry about than the $500. -

There is negative pressure between the two throttle bodies initially, which is the slight lag that I mentioned earlier on. This is overcome in literally half a second. Remember, the first throttle body is slightly open and that negative pressure is turned into positive pressure when the piping between the two throttle bodies is full of air. Once that happens (the lag isn't notice me in the real world) it's like driving normally. When the cooler fills up to the point that the air forces the first TB open fully, it's a boosting effect and the car rockets off phenomenally. There is really no better way to have an N/A car set up. -

The first throttle body is open slightly so when you open the throttle body on the plenum; it sucks air into the engine just like usual, it just takes a split second to rev up because the piping between the two throttle bodies has to fill up with air. There is a duct in the front bar right in front of the pod. -

It's forced in there through the pod filter. Air takes the path of least resistance, but if there is a duct going to the pod, it has nowhere to go other than through the filter and into the cooler. -

The air is trapped inside the cooler and it can't escape until the throttle body is forced completely open, then the air rushes into the engine. The dyno sheet doesn't lie dude. -

Obviously you have to set the first throttle body so it's not completely closed but not open enough that it lets the air passed prematurely. If you're really worried you can warm the car up, disconnect the IACV and increase your idle speed so you can move without touching the accelerator. It's not necessary, though. -

I meant the pipe work between the two throttle bodies, not the two coolers. Getting tired. -

kawasakirider replied to foxy boxy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Are you serious? Throttle bodies are never completely closed, the one on the engine opens up with the throttle cable, it sucks air passed the slightly open throttle body on the cooler and acts like a normal car. The pipe work between the two coolers takes a short amount of time to fill up with air, but it's not noticeable in a real world situation. It's probably the equivalent to the lag experienced by fly by wire throttle set ups. Once the car is moving and the cooler fills up and the first throttle body is forced open, it acts very similarly to a turbocharged car coming onto boost. -

Oh and to answer the question posted by Artz, The car will present a bit of lag at the beginning, but once the pipe work after the first throttle body fills up, it drives like normal. -

Anyone who disagrees with this simple logic isn't a mechanics sphincter. I'm not going to justify this mod anymore after this post. The pics are there, the write up is there and the dyno sheet is there. The engine won't grenade if you gut the AFM as it will richen the mixture enough for the small amount of boost generated. End of story, anyone who knows a car from a bar of soap will agree and it's obvious who the dickheads in this thread are. -

You're off with the fairies mate. To put a bonnet scoop on a car like that it would cost over a grand for paint and panel, it would not produce the same power as my mod as the air isn't cooled, nor is it pressurised AND a big ass scoop like that is bound to be illegal. -

No, because you can only compress air so much.
