R34 Gt Very Hard To Put Into Gear
JoshN replied to JoshN's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yes it is a manual, and when I say 'not able to'... i mean I literally dare to pull no harder until it warms up.. Nope, no short shift. I dont believe it is the synchro's as first gear does tend to go in a lot easier and sooner then reverse, and afaik (as you said) the reverse gear isnt synchro'd so it must be something else. Also i should mention i usually can shift down to 1st gear quite easily without grinding, although i do have to be basically stopped or going very slowly ( i know this is somewhat normal ... I say this because my friend appears to be able to shift down to 1st when he is going alot quicker then if it was in my own car.) I will check first thing in the morning , pointless checking now as my car is warm. -
Hey guys, Lately when i cold start my R34GT I am not able to put it into 1st gear or reverse for a good 6-8 minutes. Over all my gearbox seems to be a little bit notchy but some of my mates with skylines say they dont notice anything out of the ordinary, so I guess its just me being paranoid. I have tried pumping the clutch continuously but it makes little difference, is it possible my transmission needs a good flush and new oil? Thanks for any opinions!

Have seen a few people with similar units that where bought of ebay...and i have to say im still sitting on the fence after having researched a little bit myself. From what i can tell if your lucky enough to get one that works then the features are great however im not one clued in enough to comment on sound quality. Two of my good friends both have one of these units, one is very happy with his purchase and the other was DOA and has yet to resolve the issue. My 2cents? probably not worth the trouble/risk, stick with what you know is good and chances are you wont have to worry about it down the track

Any suggestions to what is a good mongoose alarm system? and also is it worth tying it in with the stock central locking (so you can use the oem remote) or do you think its easier to get it re-done?

Spy 2 Two Way Lcd Car Alarm With Remote Start Engine System
JoshN replied to moose_r33's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
My mate hasn't had any problems either. Any idea how many points of immobilization this kit has? and if it meets australian standards? (for insurance purposes) -
On this note, what else has everyone seen them in? i know the cop shop near me has a white evo that they use.. have also seen someone pulled over by a Bright purple SS ute!

Spy 2 Two Way Lcd Car Alarm With Remote Start Engine System
JoshN replied to moose_r33's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
My friend actually has one of these 'spy' branded alarms and it works surprisingly well despite what most migh think. remote start and turbo timer works perfectly too afaik, i was almost going to buy one but i am not sure about the immobilser side of things with this unit.... -
yeah he showed me when he came over to my window. Was quite interesting, the other cop that was with him looked as though he wanted to beat me into a pulp and was really mean..the cop that came over to my window was actually really nice, think he felt bad for screwing me around and baiting me haha

i think it could be quite possible. A similar thing happend to me a few months back i had a Cop in a VE wagon of all things (without antennas) follow me on frankston freeway (i was doing a constant 100kms) pull infront of me and slow down to about 80....up to 4 or 5 times after i would change to the opposite lane to him.... till i eventually said screw this guy and booted off only to have him flash his lights at me and pull me over. ended up he was a plain clothes detective and said he would fine me but never did. lucky!

Thinking Of Buying R34gt But Dodgey Gearbox? Options?
JoshN replied to JoshN's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I said the same thing when I saw it, but it is just stuck on...looks like someone just wanted to rice it up! As for the gear box he is currently replacing it at a place called jap warehouse (melb), anyone had anydealings with them? I guess as long as the box is better then before...I can rebuild it later down the track if needed...as long as it gives me a good starting place. -
Thinking Of Buying R34gt But Dodgey Gearbox? Options?
JoshN replied to JoshN's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I would be inclined to purchase that warranty from a dealer too. However theres only about 6 manual skylines on car sales i can choose from in my price range...i will still try to look for more at dealerships. So assuming he repairs the transmission, do you think it is likely to break again...but i guess i will have to wait to find out the details -
Thinking Of Buying R34gt But Dodgey Gearbox? Options?
JoshN replied to JoshN's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks for the reply, i tottally agree with you in saying those are the most likley causes for a broken gearbox...however the mechanic did also tell me it was quite possible that it was fine but whowever reconditioned it the first time was a bit of a butcher. Im not quite sure if it has been wound back, state roads didnt say anythign about it..and the body/intereior deffintly look in good condition. I have thought about the costs involved with getting it on the road...Rego is going to cost me around $1200 inc stamp duty and i have a quote for insurance around $2k that i may just pay monthly but have to wear the cost if you want a nice car i spose haha . -
Hey guys, long time lurker and first time poster here Looking to buy my first skyline, unfortunantly im on my P's for the moment so i am intrested in buying a R34GT Unfortunantly there isnt many of this model to choose from in my price range in victoria, i am looking to spend around 15k. The car that i have been looking at is this one here The car overall is in very good condition and looks much better in the flesh then in those photos, I have had the car checked out by state roads, and was told the car is fine but the gearbox has been badly rebuilt and is very notchy / will need to be rebuilt or replaced. The guy whose selling it said he was happy to get it fixed/replaced up at no cost to me, or drop the price for me to get it fixed. Is there any concerns i should have or options i should take? or let him get it fixed and get it checked out again... Thanks in advance
