  1. Ok, I've done some searching but I'm sure you all know typing things like Skyline and R34 into the search doesn't help much, even going through Google. I believe I've read before that it is legal to dump a GTR motor into the equivilant non-GTRs as they were offered that way from the manufacturer (as GTRs) as it is to put 2JZGTEs (turbos) into N/A Supras. Also heard that you need to add some other GTR bits to get away with the engine swap but dunno if that's true. I'm wondering, as I believe there are Nismo Z-tunes complied in Aus, would fitting all that gear to a GTT be alright from a legal standpoint? After all, it was offered by the manufactuer that way. 500ps I believe Nismo quote on the Z-tune... Also I'd like to know if it'd be legal to fit it piece by piece or if you have to do it all at once (so I can build it up whilst I save up...).
  2. There aren't any 1 mile drag strips in Melbourne I don't think. Sorry but I think this is one straight line battle where lugging around a 4WD system will actually be an advantage.
  3. How new are you to driving? If you suddenly come to a stop thanks to a stationary object, the R34 would be much better to be in. If it's something to take to the track, you won't feel so bad ripping the front spoiler off an R33. Skylines depreciate quick so normally cheaper via private sale. R34 is not so much heavier, more comfy and has more of the stuff you will use in a daily drive. You can get a cheap as chips one for a lot less than $19k. The weight shouldn't be so much of an issue 'cause you get more power, quite a bit more torque and I've heard R33s are normally more than the book 1370kgs anyway. Might also be true for 34s, dunno. Also, if you want to mod it, something brand new and shiny under the bonnet will be a lot more out of place in an R33 than 34 (coppers...). Why not consider an R32 GTR? Can be had for similar money.
  4. If you mod your car it'll probably be illegal and even if it isn't, you can still be defected for it and engineer's can still be reluctant to put their name on it (especially if the owner is clever enough to 'opt' for an RB20). I believe there's actually some legal problem with putting a smaller engine into a car too (at least in the sensible state of Vic). I have been told by guys who've swapped RB20s into Silvias that it's the worst decision they ever made and when their budgets get back up to strength they usually reverse the swap or sell and buy another. A Silvia for sale with an RB20 is like a girl with the Jack. SR20s are capable of much more power, much more durable, better on fuel if that's on your list and more reliable. But, you've got an R34, there's a reason Nissan dropped the RB20 when they thought of the RB25; and all your engine mounting points, gearbox mounts, driveline, aircon, other electrics etc. I would assume would mostly match up with an RB25DET. I think you'll find money you spend on the RB25DET will be way less than the cost difference or time consumption if you diy of putting in an RB20. If you just wanna be unique, try a 2JZ (Supra) or something?
