I listed all of them to justify the agreed value I believe. Didn't change the price of premium at all. -

Nrma Vintage And Classic Insurance
nick_7g replied to walkoau's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Just called for a quote 1999 R34 V Spec Insured value $50k Premium $667 p.a. Excess $1000 or Premium $785 p.a. Excess $300 Current insurance with Just Car is agreed value $45k and premium was $1536 with a +$2000 excess (after a lot of wrangling). Only catch is I need to buy a second car for daily duties to have the insurance with NRMA - which I was planning to do anyway. With the GTR on e85, I actually come out ahead buying and running second car just on the fuel and insurance savings alone ($940 p.a. saving, which helps fund the depreciation of the second car). -
Australian Court Rules On Odometer Tampering

Even with an $18k payment to the car buyer? I think that would eat most of their margin on the sale of a $30k Lancer. But if only 1 in 5 people take them to court, I guess they may be undeterred. -
Oil Pressure Sensor Engine Protection
nick_7g replied to nick_7g's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Engine protection is generally programmed to cur revs to a certain level (3k), which I guess would still result in a big on-track slowdown. But do you think the protection wouldn't kick in fast enough to save the bottom end?- 23 replies

Was thinking of installing the Haltech oil pressure sensor in order to take advantage of the Platinum Pro's engine protection feature. Wanted to see if anyone had experience with the protection, how effective it was and get a sense of if it is a reasonable compromise vs installing a high flow pump and extended sump. $400-500 for a sensor and protection setup versus $3500 for the sump and pump. Car is a daily, and I just want peace of mind to be able to track it occasionally. I'm not fussed if a hot lap is cut short by protection if it saves the engine. Already have a wideband sensor and lean out protection. My 34 GTR is running stock turbos at 14psi on e85, but I'm thinking of going to -9s. I've already got an oil cooler, injectors, pump and there hasn't been any head work done at all (no cams, gears, springs, retainers etc) if that makes a difference.

Just Went For A Spin In A Tesla Model S
nick_7g replied to PranK's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Fun fact Mercedes Benz S Class 500 is the same price as a fully loaded Tesla Model S in the USA. In Australia the fully loaded Model S is $140k cheaper than the S500!!! You could buy two Model S's in Australia for the price of an S Class. Thats the definition of gouging. That said, for the same money, its a no brainer for me to go for an S Class. Much nicer and more refined car inside (and an awesome V8 twin turbo). -
Just Went For A Spin In A Tesla Model S
nick_7g replied to PranK's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Depreciation rates in the US have been similar to the comparable euro cars, which isn't great. In Australia, Tesla will be such a low volume manufacturer that I doubt the competition here would give themselves a haircut when they're probably booking a 30-50% premium to "fair value" currently. It's just scary how much luxury car tax adds to the whole equation. It's about ~$20k on a $180k car. Scam! -
Just Went For A Spin In A Tesla Model S
nick_7g replied to PranK's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I drove the Model S at the star and it was damn quick. We were cruising along the Anzac bridge and the rep said to tap it to the floor quickly, which I was all too happy doing. The faster you put your foot down the faster it picks up. The max torque at all speeds made for an incredible rolling pickup of speed. It would have to rival most cars in the same price range for response. Besides the instant torque, it also doesn't need to shift down a gear or 3 in order to maximize acceleration. I agree with the impression of finishes and inclusions. Was very roomy, with 2 boots, a panoramic roof and a great steering wheel. You can cover the whole interior in alcanatra and carbon which would look awesome. I'm actually going to drive it again with a relative tomorrow. For the equivalent E or 5 I think you're getting something way cooler, faster and more unique in the Model S. Tesla have also priced the car equivalent to the US price adjusting for shipping, FX and local taxes and that's it. None of the gigantic marking up conducted by most other manufacturers. -
After a nismo cluster for 34 GTR. KMs not important as long as it's working. In sydney, but happy to have it shipped PM or 0407778421

I'm getting screwed by the looks of it. Age- 30 No at faults or infringements in last 5 years Car- 1999 R34 GTR V Mods- Light Suburb- Medium risk Use- Daily Insurer- Just Car Agreed value- $45k Premium- $1,500 Excess- $2,700 (not typo) They wanted to charge me $1,800 so I called and whinged and they knocked $300 off. Shannons quoted me $4,600 and NRMA quoted $2,600. They try to jack up the premium every year. And the value falls about 5% p.a. Must be the import factor, car type history and daily use that makes the difference. Can't believe someone is paying just $800 to insure $200k of R35.
