I agree SA has nazi cops. Coppers wont generally pull you over for the fun of it - i said generally. You need to be either boosting hard, screeching wheels, dragging etc to get pulled over. Then you may just get a ticket, or if your a smart ass, you'd get defected for something. Either way, if a cop wants to, he can defect a brand new car if he wanted to. I totally agree that cops are there to do a job, but nazi cops who defect imports for fun piss me off. Really, why not defect old datsun 180's virtually rusted to pieces or diesel cars blowing more spoke than a 9-second drag car doing a huge burnout!!! Just to prove a point about cop intelligence, when my car was complied, it was passed with Intercooler, HKS pod filter, and Factory BOV. All turbo timers, boost controllers, dash mounted gauges, suspension and exhaust were removed. SO at least I know my I/c is legal. Anyway, my uncle is going with this cop chick, and she likes cars. So I went round to their house in my R33 GTS-t. She loved it, really, as a normal person would. I started talking about cars and I said to her..."What makes you cops pull someone over?" Here is her reply....."Well, if your doing something stupid, we will pull you over. If you have a car loaded with stickers, you look young and suspicous, we will pull you over. If you have a hat on, and its turned backwards, we will pull you over. If we hear a BOV go off, we will pull you over" She then asked me if I had a BOV, I said no. She for a laugh asked me to rev it up, and she heard the Pschhhhh noise! She said thats a BOV. I then said to her where is it? She said she didn't know and didn't need to know and all she needs to do is defect me on that. We then had a cup of coffee and I actually explained what a BOV is. I said it vents excess turbine pressure when the throttle is closed, to prevent butterfly and turbo damage. Once she understood that I then explained where they are located. I also explained that my blow of valve is actually a factory standard valve (passed by ADR) and it vents the gas back into the intake, and thus not to atmosphere (Thus falling under ADR rules). She then asked how do I tell a Aftermarket valve. To answer her, I showed her pics of a/market valves and mentioned they come in all funky colors etc. She is now educated on BOV's, but unfortunately, you will still get a Defect notice and will have to sort it out with regency anyway. But apparantly once your car goes to regency for a BOV, even if its cleared, whilst they are there they will go over it completely with a tootchcomb, so you may never see your car again! It sucks I know.

Handbrake will simply apply more braking to the rear wheels making your engine need to work harder to fight against it. THe brake pedal has more bias toward the front brakes, hence better for rear end to spin. Try getting a line locker to prevent rear brakes from working at all. It makes burnouts a breeze. Then again, they already are, and also, tyres are expensive.

I prefer the R33 because it looks cooler, to me anyway. I find the 32's quite old now and even earlier S1 33's too. I have a S2 96 model GTS-t and I chose it because I loved the 33's rear end, and the front end was much more aggresive than the more rounded Series 1 front end. I never liked the look of the 34's when I first saw them, but now they have grown on me. But, my favourite is the R33 S2. I am not talking anything about performance etc, modded, just 100% stock factory models. R32 Gts-t R33 Gts-t R34 Gtt Thanks. Anyone else prefer Series 2 over Series 1.

Gee wouldn't wont a box to go. Mine is a bit clunky 1st to 2nd, but what you'd expect given short Jap traffic, 1st to 2nd all time, lucky if they even get into 3rd. But if you were to rebuild a manual box, any ideas as to the total drive in drive out costs, assuming 100% stock rebuild. Another question, is can you put in double synchros from 1st gear to 2nd, like Hondas new Integra Type R? Thanks

NA Diff Ratio and Turbo Diff Ratio??
Boost King replied to NA_R33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
My ratio in my 96 S2 GTS-t manual is 4.11 Good old four elevens, good for tyre schreeching. No good for top end though. 2.7's are good for that. -
Dude, dont drive it! Stick it on a tow truck mate, save any more damage being done. I had my head gasket go, but as soon as I saw smoke out the butt end of car, instant shut off! The car never got hot, saving cash on a total rebuild. Just pray it didn't detonate or like others said hope you didn't crack the head. These things are not cheap to repair. Trust me on that. Paul

I was told rice burners applied to 4 cylinders and not 6 clyinder cars like a GTS-T. If there in a commodore, just scream back - PUSHRODS, OR CHOPSTICKS, cause thats what is still in their engines since 1965! And I agree also, whats with the huge monster tachoes on Auto VN commodores? What the?

Putting an extra turbo to the R33 GTST
Boost King replied to supra's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Apparantly a stock GTS has 187 kw of power, vs a GTR making 206kw of power stock. The GTS weighs less than a GTR and without doing the calc, it was told to me that the GTS-t has a better power to weight ratio. So the GTS-t is faster, provided both are factory stock. -
Cool, with the VR-VT, let me back it up to VS S2 then, that will be valid enough. If you can find all that stuff for $4k, hook me up because thats damm cheap, maybe 7 or 8k 2nd hand but 4k, thats a good deal dude. Also now, cost of complying a car has virtually doubled now since this new system in May 03. So that should be pushing the value of all our skylines up, especially the modified ones. Also, that price I said included compliance and registration, drive away. Are the prices your talking about for uncomplied cars?

Mine wear out on insides, I have to de-rim the tyres for a rotation due to different from vs rear sizes. But, thats what you get with independant rear ends, they will wear out more. At least these cars are LSD, or else you'd have even more uneven wear.

I'd love tto come along, but I've been told cops look for things like cruises and take great pleasure in defecting all participating vehicles for the shear sport of it. Thats why I cant come, I dont want no sticker.

I appear to be getting a annoying vibratrion coming from i thinks its either the interior or rear of car when vehicle is around 2700 rpm, any gear. Its annoying sometimes. Any clues.

I run on my GTS 0.70 bar which is exactly 10psi. I was told 1.0 bar is 14.7psi. Hope that helps.

What about the shafts of the turbine, ie connecting the 2 wheels. Do these ever break or shatter? Once you do a compressor wheel (the ceramic one-hope thats right) dont they shave a couple thou off the shaft, put oversise bearings and a new steel wheel. Wouldn't this make the turbo subject to further failures, maybe along its next weekest point, ie the shaft. Becuase once you hi flow a stocky, and have 2 steel wheels on it, what else could cause a failure?

I paid more than that for my R33, but remember R33 went from 1993 to 1997 and thats like buying a VR vs a VT, lots of models and lots of years! My 96 has additional features std over the earlier 33 including Variable Cam Timing, Dual Airbags, ABS, larger spoiler, different front end styling, not to mention allot less Km's. These things add up when buying a car, and I would expect to pay more for a lower mileage car with more features that is a few years newer. And also, take a closer look at most skylines (pictures dont tell crap). My 96 had something like 2 tiny scratches, and the car is generally flawless. I have seen other R33's scratched to all buggerry. Too me a good clean car with low miles is a better alternative. Age and Km's shows everywhere, interior, steering wheel, suspension, seats etc etc. I paid $29,000 for mine, but in addition to the above features it also had large intercooler, pod filter, HKS boost controller, Coil overs, 17's wheels, killer exhaust, greddy gauges, all of which I got rough quotes for to buy here, sees this list of extras being expensive, ie: Coil over $4000 HKS Boost controler $1000 MAgs with tyres $3000 Gauges $2000 Intercooler $1000 Exhaust $3000 (ie hi flow cat, dump and s/steel all thru) Thats a good $14000. Why pay $20 for a stocky, when doing it up will owe you at least $35k, pay $29 for a done up one already. People pour lots of money into cars and rarely recoup those funds. So capitalise on someones elses losses. Paul

Need Insurance? Want Cheaper Insurance?
Boost King replied to two40's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I just called them for a quote also, they only do modified cars, and they dont car whether is slightly or heavily modified. I am 27, full rating 1 etc, NCD (the best) and the car is garaged, alarmed etc etc and in Adelaide, for my 1996 S2 GTS-T they quoted $1843. I am currently paying $1650 with Just cars. Unfortunately not a good result like most of you guys were getting quoted. -

My Dyno Results (Stockish Car)...
Boost King replied to Anquetil's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Well we cant use first and second, most stocky skylines will wheelspin off the rollers hey! -
Well there,I have exactly the same problem and my mechanic thinks I am wierd. I just had my standard fuel pump replaced with a 800 horsepower bosch unit, and its doing what yours does. More so when its cold. They put the car on dyno when warm and they said all the mixtures are fine etc. New plugs, cleaned injectors, cleaned fuel lines, new fuel filter, cleaned fuel rail, cant be the fuel system. I am taking it in wednesday night, returning thursday morning and taking them for a drive to show them so they dont think I'm mad. Some others here have advised they check the throttle position etc and see if that helps. I'll let you know how it goes. Paul

skyline handling.
Boost King replied to dstylez's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I have full coil over suspension by a company called DORF. Its fully adjustable up and down and soft and hard. Its on the softest setting and its damm bumpy. I mean really bumpy in that if your accelarating and go over a bump your wheels come off the ground. Also while going up my driveway, I have 1 wheel (left rear) in the AIR. The car is so stiff it doesn't have any play. Its great for handling, like a car on rails, and with no body roll. THe disadvantage apart is that if you try to launch the car it wheelspins majorly. The major advantage, watch those girlees t i ti es bounce around like mad! :uh-huh: -
son of rajab no! Dont use a octane booster. In around 500km, you car will be splattering and doing all sorts of things. All my mechanics strongly advised against doing this as it fowls up the plugs in no time.

My Dyno Results (Stockish Car)...
Boost King replied to Anquetil's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
My 96 Gtst has similar mods, Pod filter, Intercooler (large), HKS EVC boost controller set to 0.75 bar or 10.5psi, 3" exhaust all the way, plus hi flow cat and pulled 190kw at rear wheels. I will post my chart up once I get the pic scanned as my scanner ain't working. Anyone else pulling similar power figures. My engine has done only 60,000km. It also made 203kw at 0.90 bar, but they advised me I had a more reliable long term package this way with less boost especially for the turbos sake. Paul:burnout: -
Car Bogging Down-Fuel Pump Issues
Boost King replied to Boost King's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
That is interesting. I once had my HQ holden dynotuned and they put the big fan in front of it because it loved running hot, so it was more to cool it down. These nissans can be banged around all day and still stay at 80 degrees. -
Car Bogging Down-Fuel Pump Issues
Boost King replied to Boost King's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks for the replies. I read the links supplied and it raises a interesting point about how dyno tuners tune the car on full throttle, and you cant exactly drive around on full throttle all the time. I will take many of these points to my tuner next week and fill you all in on how it went. :uh-huh: -
Car Bogging Down-Fuel Pump Issues
Boost King replied to Boost King's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks guys for those replys. In regards to getting the injectors cleaned, we actually tried that as well. The injectors I was told by almost every one in Adelaide stated they cannot be cleaned. The guys who said they could clean them, were puzzled when they saw them. Apparantly they are a wet style injector and cant be cleaned. Please correct if this statement is wrong. As for the S-AFC, how much is one of these to instal and tune? I will also try to post up my dyno chart to show what the AFM ratio is doing as the revs increase. Thanks allot for the info. PS: I also had my computer swapped for another stocky and even had all the fuel lines pumped to remove any crap etcetc. Didn't make a difference.
