Installing vq25det turbo setup on vq35de
30ed32 replied to NicPM35's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
The 25 turbo would be too small, I have turbos from my vq30dets and even those would be too small for a 35 and I would guess the 30 turbo is bigger than the 25. You can get high flowed vq30det turbos though that are so called rated for 400hp on a 30. Could still use the rest of the turbo exhaust piping. -

Small update, I finished the exhaust manifolds, ages ago actually maybe February and for whatever reason I don't have photos of them but I'm sure you can all use your imagination. I still need to make the pipe work that connects from the exhaust manifolds to the turbo and wastegate though. I have been working on my inlet manifold and it's pretty much done now. Next is to make some top feed fuel rails with short top feed injectors, finish exhaust piping to turbo and order some r35 gtr coils. See you in a few months.. -
I thought this would have been a simple question asked many times but I haven't been able to find anything. I want to swap my r32 gtr rear diff out for a 3.69 ratio diff, I've found one but it has 5x1 axles (from a Y33). Is it possible to swap the 6x1s from the gtr diff and put them into the y33 diff? By the way this is a rwd car.

12 year revival from the OP, that's a good effort. I put a vh45 in a 350z and abuse it all day long but it's only NA. From the vh45 community I know a lot of the drifters suffer from oil starvation issues at high rpms / being sideways. I haven't read your thread in a while but I do recall some issues with your vq.. hope I didn't make a mistake putting a vq in my 180, anyway as others have suggested the vk may be a better platform.

97 Stagea RB25DE to VH41DE Conversion
30ed32 replied to Cyba's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Hey Cyba, looking forward to seeing this build progress, I did a vh45 in a 350z a few years ago (pic here http://i.imgur.com/r05Aktl.jpg?1 ) You need to leave the outer CVs in the hubs because that's what holds the bearing together, this is very important. Why not keep it 4wd though? Try to keep AC if you can it makes life better. -

This was a rb30 I built a while ago, has a .63 rear masterpower turbo. It is an absolute animal, no lag at all, very fun car to drive.

I've been busy with work lately so progress has been slow and plans changed a little bit. I decided to go single turbo for now as I didn't want to fork out the money for the twins I want and I won't be doing all the supporting mods right now for big power, a super responsive 300kw will keep me happy for a bit. So here is where the single turbo will live, this turbo was chosen due to cost and I have used it on a RB30 build previously where it performs well. I also started working on some exhaust manifolds, I bought some 3-1 merge collectors as I could never make some this nice. The start of my manifolds: First side is pretty much done just need to finish up all the welds, I've bolted it to some RHS and started finishing it up, then I'll finish the other side I also changed my mind on the inlet manifolds for a few reasons, so I revised the design a bit That's pretty much it for now, the plan is to finish the exhaust manifolds all the way up to the turbo asap and then start on the inlet manifolds which at this rate will take me a while. Until next time.. -

Small update, I've been buying a few more things and started work on the inlet manifolds. There is absolutely no science behind these before anyone asks, I just had some 3 inch stainless pipe and started working on these. The one with the blue tape on is the more complete one. I can't for the life of me get my phone to take a decent picture from this angle with the lights on in my workshop, but here they are resting on the engine sitting roughly where they will be in the end. Got a 350z gearbox. The gearbox came as a package, I got a whole bunch of stuff from the guy including the driveshaft I got in the back of the gearbox, he said he has no idea what it's for but it has the yolk for this gearbox which is all I'm interested in. Also got a new maxima clutch setup and flywheel but I won't be using that, ARP flywheel bolts which I will be using. A generic chinese short shifter which I'll need to get a reverse lockout plate for or a better shifter as this one is very sloppy. The package also came with a complete vq30det, I guess it never hurts to have a spare. And the last thing I bought which was not part of the package, a second hand lightweight nismo 350z flywheel. -

It's from a Y33, anything from a z33 or y34 has VTC of some sort. I could have gone with a z33 engine as I did an engine swap on one (see below) and had the engine laying around but I already started with this, so I will carry on with the 3 litre. At this stage I'm looking at a link g4 thunder unless I can find some else/more suitable. The g4 thunder is the only ecu I've found so far that can run dual DBW throttles, I'm sure there are others but I think link is the best fit. I've seen the s15, it's a nice build. The z33 I did the swap on: -

Ah yeah the "upgrade turbos" was because I was going to put this on another forum that wouldn't understand -5, as -5s was my plan now I may have to rethink that. -
I know it's not a skyline but I've owned a and built a few so I thought I'd put this here. At the rate I'm going I'll be lucky to finish this project in my lifetime, maybe this will keep me going.. Anyway unfortunately I don't have all fancy pictures like other threads, everything looks rough and dirty now because it is. I got some parts last week so that's why I thought I'd get on here and make some progress. Just a bunch of random stuff in no order. Gearbox (Z33) crossmember, just finished welding this, needs to be cleaned up and painted. 350z DBW pedal and VQ37VHR throttle bodies. As you can probably tell from the above picture I am going dual throttle, this came about because the stock inlet plenum won't fit under the bonnet/hood (for you Americans) and it looks ugly as hell. So I've decided to go for for something similar to the R35 GTR plenum. Here is the flange for the inlet manifold and exhaust flanges as well, I'll start working on the inlet soon. And here's the part that makes it TT, I'm sure a lot of people will be disappointed here by these small turbos (R33 GTR), but they're really just to use for test fitting and I will get some gtr upgrade turbos later. My next step is inlet/exhaust manifolds.

Soon I will be making an adaptor plate similar to the one jarrod posted above, but hopefully at around half the price and the standard starter motor position will still be used.

Z32 300Zx With Vq30 Twin Turbo Conversion
30ed32 replied to Boosted Zed's topic in Motorsport Builds
I was thinking about this.. you're making a vq30 a vq35 basically by swapping the internals. A vq35 head flows more and you could possibly fit the vq35 heads with some mods... but all that work to make a vq30 a 35 why not just buy a 35? -
sorry don't mean to ask a stupid question, but sometimes I see tig welding with a stick and other times just the gun. Are they both tig? What's better?

Rb25/30 Rb30det Vvt Internal Oil Control
30ed32 replied to psi's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I've gone with 2 x 1.25mm restrictors and 1.5mm drilled hole for the vvt/first lobe. Although I don't use vvt anymore, the car is running good and has been for a while. -
Well it does drop drastically while cranking, the longer you go the lower and lower the pressure gets without anything coming out the injectors would indicate that it's not working, but I would still expect some fuel to come out. Also as soon as cranking stops it shoots back up to 3.8 and sounds like it's just constantly priming. Even leaving it for 5 mins with ign on the pump just keeps going, but holds a constant pressure. So I don't know, possibly the power source or ecu trigger. Strange that it would stop working while cranking though, next thing to check is if the pump is getting power while cranking I suppose. Unless anyone else has any better ideas.

Hi there, so just a little detail about the engine: it's a newly build rb30det with 25 head, 440cc subaru sti version 6 injectors, ecu I don't think is that important to mention as it will be getting chipped, but both the rb25 ecu and rb20 ecu (to be chipped) have been tried. Anyway the problem is that fuel isn't getting into the cylinder and it's a mystery to me for a few reasons: 1. The fuel pump is working as you can hear it priming and if you take the hose off the fuel rail it squirts out. 2. The injectors are getting power, I've checked for a constant 12v and when cranking it pulses as it should. 3. I have listened to all 6 injectors and they are all pulsing when cranking. 4. I have put direct voltage on the injectors and when I do, they fill up the cylinder pretty quickly. 5. The hoses aren't the wrong way around to the fuel rail and I got an adjustable fuel pressure regulator with a gauge, pretty much just to monitor the pressure. It's around 3.8bar when it primes and when cranking drops to around 1.8-2bar. After cranking for a while you would expect it to be a bit wet on top of the piston or maybe have the smell of petrol, but there's nothing. I'm really out of ideas on this one, so if anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

hey man, I'm going for similar wheel width on my 32. I've already got a rear half of a gtr shell so I'll get the guards off that but I have been wondering how to make them even further out, very interested to see how you've done it. Also I was thinking about using a 33 subframe for a while.. but I decided not to as it would make it even harder to fit wide wheels, just wondering why you chose to put the wider subframe in when you're tryna fit wider wheels. Cheers, Grant -
strange question, but you think these will fit a gtr?

mmm, I never thought of using a heli-coil I might try that, only reason I'm not using the original location is im doing this build for a friend and he wants it cheap and i got the 152 belt for $19
