LOL, no thanks. It's nothing to do with the filter. Probably some weird correction table at work if you ask me. If there's only one air temp sensor in the airstream, then why the 2 different readings. Remember, the in car display reads accurate....
-
Yeah, I did get the 'small one', lol. Turbo lag is very subjective though. I might update my Hypergear review thread since I've had it a while now & have some more to report.
-
Hey, good point Alex. I didn't think of checking it with the Cipher cable. My guess is the ECU reads real speed & modifies the speedo to be wrong. I have a similar question about intake air temp. Cipher was saying 38 deg when outside was 14 deg as displayed on the dash. I'm starting to get the feeling our cars are telling us lies the whole time, lol.

I can't help myself. Had to go downtown so did a speedo v's GPS check on the way. I had to hold each speed for maybe 5 seconds for the GPS to stabilise. Results show it's more linear than I expected, and anything under 50km/h is pretty well on the money. Also I didn't want to be irresponsible & check the next 10km/h increment, but it would be interesting to see if the speedo error remained at 6km/h. Of course these results are for my car with my tyres - 245/45/18 - so the error could be more or less for another car. However, the slope of the graph would be similar for everyone & so the ability to calibrate it if desired.

+1, can't agree with you more Duncan. My Hi-flow doesn't lend itself to picking gaps in traffic, or even driving briskly through a series of tight corners anymore. In day-to-day driving I really miss the response of my old setup.
-
Well I hope you don't have the same problem as me then. My plastic cover is flexing slightly as it's tensioned down, so that the gasket isn't compressed enough in the middle (between two bolts positions) to stop oil leaking out. I'm going to have to take more drastic measures to fix it. I guess what I'm saying is 'if it aint leaking, don't fix it", lol.

So are you saying you think that the speedo is out by a fixed percentage? If that is the case, then the Jaycar calibration kit should work perfectly. BTW, that isn't what I've experienced (but I could be wrong). I thought the speed was accurate up to a point, and then became progressively less accurate. In any case, I'm pretty sure you could find some happy medium with the calibration. If you got it bang on at 100, it won't be out too far at lower speeds.
-
I've given it a bit of thought - even built the Jaycar calibration kit - and here's what I've come up with: I believe it is possible but you will need to break into the VSS wire at the TCM (same yellow/black wire on pin 27 that you connected the cruise control). This means you can modify the signal before it gets inserted into the CAN & hence control the speedo. BTW, it shouldn't matter which side of the Jaycar box you extract the CC signal, ie before or after it has been modified. Now the kit modifies the signal frequency in a linear way, but I think our computers don't display speed in the same way. I could be wrong, but I don't think our speedo's are out by the same amount across the usual driving range. In my brief experience (comparing various speeds with the GPS), the speed seems pretty accurate up to ~80km/hr. Above that it gets progressively less accurate till it's out by ~7km/h at 100km/h - depending on tyre/wheel sizes. It's been widely reported (ask Scotty) that the Informeter displays speed accurately. This leads me to believe that the computer knows exactly what speed you are doing, but chooses to be 'socially responsible' & display a higher speed to slow you down / keep you from getting booked etc. Having said all that, if someone wants to adjust for wheel size that is noticeably different from standard, or correct for highway speeds, I think the speedo correction kit will work on the M35 (but with some linearity flaws). Cheers, Leon.

Hey Josh, I have little luck with search also - it appears I suck at the internet, lol. Do you have an oil leak from the drivers' side? So far I've not heard of anyone with that issue. I'm about to pull the plenum & passenger side valve cover off mine to 'fix' the leak for the third time. 13270AL612 – Passenger side valve cover gasket 13270AQ800 – Driver side valve cover gasket Edit: Too slow (got distracted) - now there is more results for the search function

V35 2003 Engine Mod Help
Commsman replied to KingManu23's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I'm not sure of the law on that point, but I'd guess the heat would still be on you unless you gave up the name of the person behind the wheel - just like in the event of a speed camera fine when a friend is driving your car. Either way someone's not going to be happy if it is pursued. -

I can see it now: " car hoon narrowly misses unsuspecting bystanders". A certain tunnel video in SA springs to mind.... Good that you pointed that out clearly Andrew. No one likes to see a member in trouble. -

Sheldon, I didn't know Hilldon Court @ Nerang was a closed street....., but then it looked like you were only doing 59, lol. Sounds nice - suitable for a young blokes car but too loud for an oldy like me. -
I think M35's "There is a dimmer??" remark was more of a question than a statement. I haven't found one yet either....

What Have You Done To Your Stagea Lately?

LOL. I actually do find that interesting. I would have put money on that battery only being good for recycling. Good to see you can get some more use out of it. I only hope it doesn't let you down at an inconvenient time. (Actually every time is inconvenient, isn't it?) -
Yeah Ryan, they impress me in different ways nearly every time I go out. Torrential rain today & it was like driving an 'ordinary' car in the dry. Wear rate could be the one thing that fails, but I won't know for a while yet. I didn't think that would be the case, but I'll believe you. Suspension is still smoke & mirrors to me, lol. Current FRONT specs: Toe-in: LH 0.5mm, RH 0.5mm Total toe-in 1.0mm Camber: LH -1.8 deg, RH -2.3 deg* Castor: LH 6 deg, RH 7 deg Current REAR specs: Toe-in: LH 1.0 deg, RH 1.0 deg Camber: LH -1.8 deg, RH -1.8 deg * The RH camber is a potential problem. Pretty sure the Superpro upper camber kit (from Ryan's GB) will be used to reduce that figure by 0.5 deg. I'll try to update this as my alignment guy feels his way. I've been to 2 or 3 other shops in town with no joy & at least this guy is prepared to follow through until he gets it right. BTW, in reference to earlier posts in this thread, I also run my tyres at 40+psi.
-
I could send you my last alignment results but they might not mean anything unless your car was exactly the same setup as mine (height wise etc). Coincidentally I took my car in for a 5000km tyre checkup today (I was expecting another alignment & rotation) but was told to leave it another 5000km as there wasn't enough signs of wear to warrant any changes.
-
I guess the same. Anything can be adapted or converted, but I reckon you would spend more time & money trying to find something to work than just getting what you want in the first place. Plus adaptors tend to come loose, break or otherwise give you problems.

That's very cool, but where is the dash light dimmer?

Recommendation On Engine Oil For M35 Vq25Det
Commsman replied to ECR33_RB25DET's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Very interesting. It appears you have used lots of different oils so probably never kept the same one in for more than (say) 5 oil changes. I wonder if you would have the same result if you used just one type for 18 - 20 changes & then swapped brands? TBO I have no idea what caused the oil consumption in the work car, other than it happened at the same time as I changed mechanics & they use a different brand. Maybe it was just a coincidence, but I have a hard time believing that. Then, only a short time later, the rings were completely gone & the engine was smoking like a James Bond smokescreen, lol. My M35 doesn't use any oil (well, maybe a negligible amount), but am a little concerned that a change of brands will cause more harm than good. I don't know, is 70-80K long enough for 'build up' to occur. I had the valve cover off yesterday & it was all clean in there. Maybe I should give another brand a try.... -

How did you go mounting the cooler? Looks like one I bought initially but was too big. Do you have a FMIC? -
Recommendation On Engine Oil For M35 Vq25Det
Commsman replied to ECR33_RB25DET's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Can anyone back up my experience whereby an engine that was being serviced using one brand for it's entire life (bar what was in it from the factory), & then when changing oil brands after ~180K the engine immediately starts using oil & then the rings go a short time (~10k) later. This was in my work vehicle & was serviced by Rep##, first at one location then transferred to another. It was suggested to me that the different detergents (or other additives) were to blame - one built up over the years & then new oil removed them. Does this sound feasible? If so, it leads me to think the best thing is to regularly swap brands or pick one & stick with it forever. I'm using an oil in my M35 that I don't particularly want to continue using (too expensive for what it is & shall remain nameless), but it's been the only oil used for the last 70K as the owner before me only used this one. Given my experience, I'm reluctant to change brands in case there is some truth to the above. My car performs well although the viscosity is a bit heavier than what most would use, but I have no comparison since it's always the same oil... Thoughts? -
6th of June - they've got to be pulling your leg! Probably giving you crap service because it's an import. You could try a Repco mechanic or some other private workshop. Many of them have a comprehensive array of diagnostic devices. Heck, I could probably post you my Cipher cable to get there before then.

Recommendation On Engine Oil For M35 Vq25Det
Commsman replied to ECR33_RB25DET's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Isn't there laws against false advertising? I can only assume if any manufacturer put the words "fully synthetic" on their label, it must meet certain standards. Or is there some leeway which allows someone to sell mineral based oil as "fully synthetic", or maybe only a % of the oil needs to be synthetic to qualify?? Maybe it's like McDonalds food having some "nutritional value", lol. -

I think the drawing is the least of your worries. Nice job on those btw. Actually blending it together in the flesh (plastic?) is going to be the real challenge. I'd like to see that! Should be an original though, if it gets done. -
Nice!
