Suspension Which Way To Go....
Commsman replied to fritters77's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
I bought my BC BR's with spring rates 2kg/mm less than standard, to try to make the ride as close to standard (on the softest setting). Did it work? Not really. On nice roads it's perfectly fine & compliant. On any road with patched up potholes however, it crashes & bangs over them like the suspension is broken. And that's a patched road, not one with actual potholes - don't get me started on those. They would be the only mod I've done to my car that I consider a compromise. Maybe I'm too fussy (or too old?). But on the up side, it does handle really well, especially on smooth roads. And of course you can get the stance you want. I suppose sometimes you have to suffer for fashion . -

Wtb: M35 Turbo Suitable For Hi Flow
Commsman replied to Commsman's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Thanks Scott, it'd be great if you stumbled across one in your travels. I'm in no particular hurry as my car is still driveable, for now. Didn't I read recently where you said you hadn't seen a standard turbo with a cracked housing? But I wouldn't be lending yours out if it is still in good working order. -
Wtb: M35 Turbo Suitable For Hi Flow
Commsman replied to Commsman's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
You guessed it, lol. It looks like the best value option for my needs, but I've only really been thinking about it for a few days. It makes sense to me to have one ready to go in at the same time as you take the old one out. Could be a bonus if you're paying for workshop time, or if (like me) you forget how you got the bolts out the week before. -
Nice work Scotty, as usual. Out of the 3 things you changed, what do you think gave you most of the extra power; exhaust, diff or management? Or were all three neccessary to progress over what you were running previously? What extra control does the HKS system give you over the E-manage?

Hi all if anyone has an old standard M35 turbo they want to sell (or loan), please let me know. It doesn't have to be working, as long as there are no cracks on the inner turbine & compressor housings. I'm wanting to get one high flowed & then swap over with mine so as to have minimal time off the road. Will be happy to return my turbo after this if you want it for your own project (it could be better than your current one). Alternatively, in the interests of helping out the community, I can make it available for others who would like to do the same swap as me - sort of a loan turbo. Cheers, Leon.

What Have You Done To Your Stagea Lately?
Commsman replied to Hanso's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
What? Where? How? -
Hi Alex, does changing the ignition (in particular taking timing out) occur across the whole rev range or can you set it in (say) per 1000rpm? In any case I'm interested in making use of this software. I look forward to your PM. Cheers, Leon.

And ignore my guess on req'd socket size. It's bound to be at least 14mm. (10mm, as if...lol)
-
Easy. 4 bolts screw into floor. 10 or 12mm socket from memory. Tilt forward & unplug connectors underneath. Seriously, you should have it out in less than 10 minutes.
-
If you can work out where the wiring goes & therefore what it is doing, it could be a legitimate mod, or one that you can easily reverse. In that case see if you can get the dealer to go back to the original offer to pay for the gearbox. Then you will have a spare to use or sell . I'd be hesitant having it sent to another workshop who may discover the switch, flick it off (or remove & bypass it) & say 'all fixed', without actually knowing what it does.

M35 Factory Navigation. Can I Get It To Work In Aus?
Commsman replied to 1ARX4's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
You can put an aux AV signal into the factory tuner that can display whatever you like. Got a gps with AV output? Why not a Carputer or tablet/mobile device? Plenty of options. Do a search on TV tuners for starters as there's answers on how to interface with the tuner/screen & all sorts of infomation & ideas to get you thinking about the possibilities. -
LOL, V series cruise in the rain. Sounds familiar.
-
Lol, OK, there's a reason why it won't work. But it sounded so damn logical..
-
That ^ sounds like a brilliant idea. Can't see any reason why that wouldn't work, but I'm no scientist.
-
Yep abnormal for these cars. Did someone do a TDI conversion when you weren't looking? Aircon off makes a big difference, but not 2-3L/100km I would say. Nice effort - I don't have the willpower I'm afraid.
-
110km/hr down long hill, lift off, reset trip computer, <500m take picture. Just for laughs on here. I was too slow to get a pic when it said 4.x

Rarest V Series Parts You've Seen
Commsman replied to Howaitonaito's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Might just make me one of those on the weekend. How hard could it be...? -
OK, I'll make a deal with you - first one to work out what it is lets the other know.
-
Hey Scott, in your 3rd pic where the 2 pipes join, it's partially blocked from the pipe underneath. What's the science behind that? Is that to help the gas flows combine with least interference or was that a pic of work in progress & there's more to cut out?
-
Let me know if you locate the clunking at the rear. Mine started making a clunking noise a month or so ago & unable to work out what it is. Seems totally random, not just turning a particular direction, accelerating, decelerating, bumpy or smooth road - can't get a handle on it. Audible from outside too.

What Have You Done To Your Stagea Lately?
Commsman replied to Hanso's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
I've got 2 boost gauges & they read differently too. I've just been out working through the process of adjusting boost & fuel mixtures. I started by allowing the wastegate to see all the boost & then slowly reduced the solenoid duty cycle (cuts off air going to the actuator) to add more boost. Got a bit greedy a few times & took too much out - hit boost cut Had to add more fuel for the high boost map as well. It's not perfect yet, but felt it best not to tear up & down the nearby country lane all afternoon. The farmers don't mind me tuning now & then, but I've got to be considerate of their peace & quiet. So far it's looking promising with more boost available where it was falling away before.
