Ordered today from http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRG-RE5R05A-HD2/ Price US$290.84 delivered. Have to pay via PayPal account tho.

I've read that guide before and it doesn't look too, cough, daunting. My local guy knew the gear box, but didn't spend anytime reading what was involved with the kit, hence the price range. Been caught before tho, ends up being $990 + GST, not $500, lol. 4 hrs should = $280 to $400 ($70 - $100/hr) plus oil. So $500 would be the absolute max that the job is worth IMO. Meh, just gonna do it myself, even if it takes a whole day.
-
Wait. Without some method of tuning, it will run like crap (in a bad way, lol).
-
Well, I heard back from a shop that does a lot of Transgo work. His sugestion was for me to buy the kit online (derr, was going to anyway) because he can't buy it that cheap thru his supplier. Then his price for installation was somewhere between $500 & $1000 (unsure as to the extent of the work) but that included filling it up with their Valvoline trans fluid. I DON'T THINK SO. Looks like I keep asking or another DIY project is on the cards.
-
Completely right. Only start reading when you've cracked it open & there's no returning. So, are you going to tackle this as a DIY? I've started ringing around my local guys to see who sounds most confident & if they can do it for less than ~$250 - 300, this will be my first non DIY mod .

Thanks Iain. I asked the question.

I know it was probably discussed 6 pages ago in an unrelated thread, but where from & how much?
-
Now that would be a bargain if it comes off. Even I would part with that much to have the original, lol.

Welcome Cameron. I like the look of your car. You know, I don't think I've seen anyone on here talk about sound systems in the M35. Most people who change head units probably just leave the speakers in place, although I could be completley wrong. Maybe you could become the resident M35 audiophile & tell us which ones work best & tempt us to spend more money? lol. -
Your budget will get you into a decent one, but you may need to search for a while to get one with some "must have" features. One of the things that ends up costing heaps more to buy later is a body kit. Most common on the M35 is the aero kit, mostly with fog lights built in to lower bar, & it's worth holding out for one. General consensus is that it looks pretty ordinary (crap?) without it. The other thing that doesn't cost more (often less) is to find one without the BOSE system. If these "play up" there is less options for replacement. And it's nice to get the pop up screen, like in your V no doubt, so you can add some entertainment etc. I'm not sure your budget will stretch to one with leather & sunroofs (if that's even your thing) unless there's a private seller keen to move theirs. If you have any plans to improve your car (& it's addictive when you find out how well they go with a few mods) then you may want to allow a few $ for later on . Happy hunting.

So, any legal issues for bringing in tyres from USA? Do they have/need ADR's? There are some cheap tyres on there that, even with shipping, work out to be good value landed. Maybe a heap of us put together a container load... LOL
-
What, no Nankangs on your list?
-
Umm, I'm confused. If it's a fictional power gain, why are you so interested? I'm not saying you will get much (if any) gain (as opposed to us M35 owners), but wouldn't you like to try a zero cost mod to see before being touched up by Nissan or anyone else? If it's only about the looks, put the money towards something that can be seen on the outside IMO.

New V35 Owner With Some Questions
Commsman replied to puddlejumper's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Welcome. I can't answer everything, but here's a start. 1. I would think you should be able pick up most stations if the band expander was installed correctly. Maybe the antenna got partially disconnected from the back of your head unit.... 2. No, it can't play DVDs but it needs to stay connected if you want the other screen functions to work. 3. I have TV tuners available that connect into your OEM one in the boot. See my sig for details. These have an extra AV input to run a DVD player if you like. 4. It should be around $300. Stickers come up on Ebay every now & then, but the Jap buttons grow on you after a while . Cheers, Leon. -

Fully sic indeed! Unrelated, when do you & Craig want more tuners? Got all those pimped vans lined up to do... -
Nice write up. Pictures really are worth a thousand words! Even though I have no immediate requirement to remove the instrument cluster, at least I know how. Thanks

No gear knob Andy? Did you take the picture before it was put back together or are you going for that "just stolen" look . -
Tv Tuners Once Again - The New Asuka
Commsman replied to Commsman's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Hi Everyone Getting back to the original point of this thread, I just picked up another shipment of 20 tuners from the PO. I will message everyone that has contacted me in the last few weeks & confirm delivery info. I was told that these ones were a different colour (black, not gold), slightly smaller & included an SD card slot. Well, the manufacturer must have found some more of the original housing because these ones are exactly the same as the last lot. So, please accept my apologies if you were hanging out for an SD slotted black tuner of more petite proportions. Cheers, Leon. -
Anything is possible but there's still limited room in there, and just how much time/effort/money does one want to go to? In reality it would be easier to just use an interceptor to adjust the voltages (hence AFR's) back to what you want than try to do it mechanically. I'd imagine that would be a fairly coarse sort of adjustment.

Thinking about heading down, but I'm taking my son to see Ken B in Melb plus going to Syd for Stagea 15th anniversary cruise. Too much stuff going on me thinks. -
Haha. I figured if I spent the 50hrs it took me to make it actually working in my business, I could have paid someone to build me something really nice. I dunno, maybe totally rebuilt my engine or a manual gearbox conversion lol. Happy to release the patent & put up a rough guide for others, but I'm so over it there's no way anyone would want to pay enough to entice me to make another one . Would be a good idea if I made sure I can get it running exactly how I like first. Otherwise this one may be going cheap for someone wanting to install an Emanage....
-
There is a way around that with good design .

LOL & welcome.

That would work well except it wouldn't automatically switch to the reverse camera if it was on a different input at the time. Otherwise a very cheap way of sharing the input between multiple devices. A few of us have looked for similar devices previously, but nothing as good as that for so little expense has been spotted before. Nice find.
