  1. I'm always safe Well, I bought an old OBD2 connectror from a wrecker and butchered it to remove one of the pins. After splicing it into the "special loop" that mine has and putting the pin in the connector where I believe it should go (pin 14) my new InfoMeter works properly and the 4WD light remains off. Re real wheel spinning in the wet (RWD only mode), I've NOT been able to acheive that. Is it because your car has more torque down low than mine? I think the turbo motors are limited in 1st gear. Either that or I am running in full 4WD mode. But that doesn't agree with what I feel when I pull the connector, which is the same as pushing the snow button. I think your suggestion of putting it up on stands will be the only conclusive way of telling. Cheers, Leon.
  2. Thanks Ben, fluid levels are all good. I'm pretty sure this is an electrical/electronic modification and does seem counter intuitive, given what I feel and what the light is doing. ie light on = 4WD, light off = 2WD. Also worthy of note, when I use the snow button I don't get the orange 4WD light, just the green "locked differential" looking light. Is that what you get? Cheers, Leon.
  3. Thanks Andy and Alex. So discounting some small difference to 4WD systems between models, it seems 4WD light on = fault. It's funny that, in Alex's case, light on = RWD and I felt that the car seemed to operate in snow mode with my light on and with the light off seems to be RWD.... Maybe the previous owners' mod was two fold; 1) make car perform essentially in RWD & 2) keep the light off. Anyway, thanks for your replies. They have been very helpful. I'm going to T off this wire and put a connection back into the OBD2 connector to get my InfoMeter working and thus leave the car performing as it was. Next chance I get to have the car up on stands I'll see exactly what happens with & without the wire connected. Cheers for that, Leon.
  4. Hi guys the 4WD light on the RHS of the M35 dash - what does it mean when it's on? Is that normal or a fault situation? I bought a GReddy infometer the other day and of course with my luck, it didn't just work when it was plugged in . Works great on my daughter's Micra though.... The culprit is a wire that was removed from the OBD2 connector that the meter plugs into. This wire has been taken out and plugged into another wire (heading into the dark under dash) by a previous owner. I disconnected it and only drove the car for about 50m before I realised it felt like when the snow button is engaged, ie I could feel the front diff working. When I looked the 4WD light was on. Stopped the car, plugged the rogue wire back into its aftermarket connector and the light went out and the car drove like "normal", ie feels like RWD. I would like to confirm if the light is on for all/most people and if what I have is essentially a way to make the car RWD. If that's the case it's easy to rectify and get my new meter working. Thanks, Leon.
  5. Good luck with the interview. I hope you get the job. I can already tell you're the best candidate My son will most likely be going crazy with the camera on Sunday. But they will all be of cars, and probably arty farty closeups & weird angles of badges or exhausts or whatever. I'll try and wrestle the cam away for some group shots of people having fun to make everyone wish they were there. Having met nearly no one in person yet, they might all be reluctant to pose for some idiot with a camera, but I'll see what I can do.
  6. Well that's easy then! If you're coming up to Byron then let me know. We can grab a beer
  7. Thanks for making the booking Darrin. 30 sounds like a good number. It'd be great if that many turn out for the cruise. Leon.
  8. Hey Jetwreck, thanks but all the work was done previously by Chook, Andy, Brad (and others?). I'm just helping out with sourcing more tuners. I'm bummed that Asuka are so hard to deal with. Price keeps going up (from what I hear) and service is coming down. It's a shame 'cause the product was really good. Having said that, this sample I've been testing continues to impress. Especially for our V series brothers who need the external antennas as these come standard. Seeing as it will be delivered for about $230 makes it great value. Andy mentioned there's a way of connecting a reverse cam to the existing tuner box so I guess it doesn't matter if the new type can't perform that function. It's funny when dealing with these cars. Just when you think there's nothing you can do, along comes 3 ways of doing it BTW, I actually live between Byron Bay and Ballina, so about 2 hours north of Coffs. I do a lot of work in Coffs and Port Macquarie though, so you never know. I may be passing through while you are there. Cheers, Leon. PS Did you get a chance to look at your OBD2 connector to see if you had a wire in pin 14? Mine's been removed and I suspect that's why my new info meter doesn't work.. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...t&p=5548993
  9. Hey Andy. Got mine today. Looks trick (in the box). If you were an FleaBay merchant you'd have a AAAAAA++++++ rating for the fast shipping Thanks heaps.
  10. Hi Graham. No it just replaces the TV function with a TV tuner that picks up regular digital TV broadcasts. Plus you can play movies or audio files from a USB stick. All the other functions like trip, fuel consumption, compass etc remain as they were. If you don't have a reverse camera & wanted one, then the Asuka is a better model 'cause you can integrate both functions. I wasn't looking forward to putting a rev cam on my wifes car anyway as it looks to be a bugger getting the cable down the tailgate. Might just stick with TV for now. Aaron, whatever can be picked up in the area you are in, ie tuned like you would a regular TV, should be able to be received whilst "parked" in your car Cheers, Leon.
  11. No worries, you will be nearly the first to hear!. They only have 2 "inputs" as such. 1 is the RF tv signal via the f-type coax connectors & the other is the USB port for play vid/audio files. They show one AV input in the manual but it is actually an output & is labelled as such on the case. If you wanted to set up a PS3, I would say get the AV splitter/video switch device you mentioned but find one to do all the connections you need. ie TV or PS3 in (switchable?), muliple outputs for head rest screens. I say you can never have too much entertainment in your car, especially if you cart around young'uns
  12. Hi Aaron I just tested a sample tuner last night. It's sort of an alternative to the Asuka HR3. What it doesn't have (although the manual says it should) is an AV input for reverse camera. Not a prob for me as I have a reverse cam input on my Eclipse head unit. It also doesn't have 3 x AV outputs for you to run to other screens with AV inputs. What it does have: 1 x AV output (coax vid L & R audio) 1 x Component output (RGB) 1 x HDMI output This means it has flexibility as to what you can connect with. All of these work at same time so you can run another screen as long as it has the input to suit, or you get a cable that is (say) HDMI to AV. Diversity (dual) f-type antenna inputs Powered antennas, which are optional extra with other tuners (V series owners need these), come standard with this one. They work really well at my place which has crap TV reception. I received nothing unpowered, but with 12V applied the channels came in really well (indoors with steel frame house). The factory Stagea antennas are supposedly better again. USB for playing video / audio files and recording live TV (tested and it works great, but not sure how often you would want to do this though). And mounting brackets (Asuka doesn't come with these.) So for what looks to be about $230 delivered to your door (add another $10-$15 for a good quality AV lead) and an arvo of your time you get TV in your car. I reckon it's worth it I'm still not sure if I'm going to bring in a batch of the Asuka HR3's, just for those that want a reverse camera input (& maybe extra AV outputs for other displays) since these new ones look to be the goods. Equivalent cost of the Asuka (if you needed aftermarket antennas) would be close to $370 at your door.... Anyway, I'm going to install my sample tuner in the car this weekend and test it for a few days. If it continues to impress I'll have a box of these available in a few weeks, just in time for Christmas presents. Cheers, Leon.
  13. Hey Darrin, I went on a cruise with the Nissan SVD club (do they even exist anymore?) in the 90's and it was a very slooow cruise. It turned me off these things for well over a decade. But now with the Stagea I'm keen to meet other owners and have a nice drive. Without gettting into trouble, will Mt Mee see some "spirited" driving? I've never been there before, but I'll get out some maps before hand if there's a chance to have a bit of a go Anyone want to share their pace notes?
  14. Can't you cruise without boost?
  15. Hi Aaron, I'm in the process of weighing up the options. It is possible to get the Asuka's still but they have to be bought in lots of 20. Andy (Andy65b) in Sydney is interested in helping out as is Brad (ducati02) in Adelaide as they were involved in the last few batches that Simon (Chook) in Brisbane got in for club members. BTW, he did a great job at putting together install info. A recent thread is here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Tv...TV+tuners+again Having said that, I was sent a sample tuner to test just this week which will be cheaper and easier to get, hopefully in smaller numbers. I hope to try out the TV reception soon but it already works well on the bench playing movies from USB. It has AV, Component & HDMI outputs (1 of each) but the instructions are wrong re an input for (say) reverse camera as I can't get this to work. It remains to be seen how well it works, but if you want a reversing camera connected thru the tuner, it will need to be the Asuka. Otherwise this unit could be OK pending full installation and trials. Cheers, Leon.
  16. Hey Tom, I'm glad it got to you OK but sorry you are having problems getting it to work. Yeah, my M35 sounds different to your V. Can you post a pic so we can offer some ideas? Cheers, Leon.
  17. It was suggested by Micah (rb26stagea) to meet at Coomera BP about 8:30 (Qld time, I'm from NSW) so that's what I'm doing. See you there.
  18. Hi Dale did you have any luck with that part number at your favourite Nissan dealer? It may be only an Infiniti part number from the States and not applicable here, I don't know. Depending how helpful they are, it could be looked up by description or on exploded drawings perhaps, but most part guys are too keen to spend the time. I'm having to wait ages for US guys to get back to me. Will shoot off another email now. Cheers, Leon.
  19. Thanks Tom Nice work on the pics. I found it almost impossible to get the focus right on mine, and my camera's supposed to be automatic I guess I'm a crap photographer. I think you are entirely right re the connectors and colours. The main thing is that the connectors are the same, and they do look like it. The colours could easily change between different models, and maybe between different days of the week for that matter! I'm 95% sure that if the cruise control works on the M35 Stagea it will work on the V35 Skyline. As a final test before the first one goes to a V35 owner, I'll get someone to confirm the range of voltages across a couple of wires with pedal up & pedal down. Cheers, Leon.
  20. Hi Andy, can you PM me info on the infometer? Thanks, Leon.
  21. Thanks Iain. Scanning manuals... oh yeah, lots of fun. OK, I will post it up on your forum as well. The more exposure the better for everyone. I'm only likely to do this once so might as well get them off my hands as quick as possible. I'm still gathering a small amount of info before I post it for everyone to see, but I'll send you a copy of the features list if you want a preview. I'd be happy to hear what you think. PM me your email address if you like. Cheers, Leon.
  22. Here's 2 pictures of what you're looking for. If the V35's are the same as this, I may need someone to check voltages to positively confirm they will be OK to use with this cruise control. But one step at a time. Cheers, Leon. Pic 1 - plugged in to top of pedal assembly, pic 2 - unplugged
  23. Hi Iain, no I live close to Byron Bay, so not able to just drop in. Pity, it would be great to have other M35 owners close by to chuck ideas around. I've actually got the manuals. I think I may have downloaded them from your forum. Not a lot of help yet but I did start translating the accelerator one a while ago. Hey, would it be too rude to post my offer for the cruise controls on your forum and then post just a link to it from here Nah, doesn't matter; I can handle a little grief! I would like to post all the good reference stuff there later though if that's OK.
  24. I'm not going to go on and on about this. I hope you just have everyone's best interest at heart. And if that's the case, thanks, I appreciate it. I have insurance with my business activities also, but in this case, after I prove that it works and works well, the other DIYers will take it on knowing they need to take due care but they will be doing it at their own risk. Exactly the same as when they buy that boost controller and screw it up too high and blow their engine etc. The person who sold it to them isn't liable if they didn't install it. To quote Forrest Gump, "That's all I gots to say about that" Cheers, Leon. Oh, and no writing anything to the CAN. The cruise control has an connection to the CAN that reads all the information it needs to save us finding the other sensor wires (speed, revs, brake etc). Pretty neat huh!
  25. Cool, thanks Jetwreck. Leon.
