Hi guys I'm back on the road after my gtst has been off the road fixing few minor things. as the title states i'm trying to set my gtst to be my daily driver so i'm after a solid bulletproof mod. while keeping it still unique in its own way, and please dont say why i spend all this money on gtst not save up and buy gtr... coz i already heard all that and i know they're awesome but...i want this GTST to be a Good one since its my first skyline. i'll get a gtr later down the track someday... i'm not after rediculous power or have out of this world budget so i'll hear what you guys think about my plans. I've been searching for a while but there's sooooo much info scattered everywhere so i've made this thread to keep all info i need into one (i know it's prob been covered already but my skills of searching arnt that good and it just confuses me). what the car is now: pretty stock hcr32 with apexi pod, splitfire coils and spark plugs, cat taken out replaced with test tube, hks style exhaust, My plans are intake: i plan on getting the ARC induction box and already have a silk road r32 headlight vent that i scored off a mate , the vent will be customised to i can open/close the rear side when its pouring with rain and i dont want the box to have a shower). hope it will give some ok gains.. Exhaust: already fitted, its not genuine hks but still works fine, will change if problem arise. Suspension: i was gonna wait but by bushes seem abit knock tired since its 20yrs old after all, so i'll be changing all my bushes to nolathane ones and as for coilovers.... i've got cusco zero 2e's with e-con.. pretty good shocks in my opinion... and that i just loved the idea of!!! scored the set from Japan off my friend brand new! Rigidity: Cusco or Nismo front and rear strut brace.. (abit cosmetic?) Electronics: I sont wanna go all out buy a expensive ecu but i would like a good ebc like blitz abc i-colour? bling factor but would like it since i havent heard any bad points about them. Fuel: Nismo fuel pump with injectors Intercooler: now i'm stuck.... i dont know which ones will be good.. i have a stock turbo atm but will upgrade soon or later so will be good to upgrade my i/c while i'm at it.. what's a really good reliable one for gtst? ARC? any particular brand? model? i would really like your input on this one. Turbo: HKS GT2530 since i think its close to the stock one i have in terms of less lag and quick spool with ok gains over stock? again inputs appreciated. CLUTCH: Essential? if so.. os giken or cusco i'm not sure which one would be good for daily city driving with occational highway drive?? things i am really confused about: i was going to get a bov installed but when i searched the forum half of the guys said the aftermarket atm ones stall the engine and bov's are gay gay and gayer.... i thought they were to prevent surge.. wrong? should i stick with stock? If i was to get one which one works well and is reliable with the rb20det? GFB? HKS? Greddy? i dont need it to be loud. i was thinking of GFB Deceptor pro.. any ideas? and also i still dont fully grasp the need for a wastegate.. will i need one?? for a street set up? if so which ones? External/body: The car is abit rough body wise, i plan to make ot mint Front: GTR bonnet, Grill, Nismo N1 style vented front bar. Rear: East bear GTR rear bumper (Looks AWESOME) panel: GTR Rear quarter panels to widen the rear colour: Not sure yet but... maybe metallic black or blue? what's your inputs? If you read till the end, i thank you... come to think of it its mega long..... sorry... i would appreciate any inputs and would like to hear from you guys since this project will start in about two months time... do you think this is a good initial mod? or do i need to change it... cheers for you time..

hey guys, found out what the problem was... the car has dropped coils..... just ordered splitfires and will replace asap cant believe my coils lasted only about 3weeks when i paid half decent money for them.. word of advice if you're changing coils or sparks dont get any aftermarket ones? it'll cost you more like in my case~ will keep post after new ones installed -

hey man i parked the car for over 4hrs and just went 4 another drive.... and to my surprise... it was running mint when the engine was cold but when the engine gradually became fully warm and i gave it some light boost out of nowhere the shaking started happening during accel and the same sympthoms as above, loss of boost, running like wrx... so i guess it only happens after the engine is warm... i'm takin it to a mechanic but what do you guys think it is? the car still spools but the pull isnt great and it doesnt feel like a clean acceleration if that helps.. -

hey bro, not the best of news i wanted ti hear but i'll answer some qs. well the turbo itself, i can still hear it spooling like normal but boost wise i feel a significant loss in the pull it self. and the actual runnin of the engine is more like a splutter,.. a very mild version of when you are in high gear and low speed. like when you try to take off from 2nd from stop. noise.. i cant hear anything wrong from engine thats out of ordinary but i can hear the exhaust above all and alot more vibration coming from the exhaust as well.. i'll take it to a garage tomorrow.. .. again... 2nd time in 2 weeks... -

hi there again, i just came back from a drive due to my car behaving weird, now i think this is a new problem it was good in the beginning but i after about 1hr of driving i stopped and was enjoying the scenary when suddenly i heard the cars exhaust note changed (turned to a lower pitch) at this point i thought huh? and surprisingly i couldnt hear my thump/soft pop noise that i was hearing usually at idle soi was surprised and kinda glad... but.... when i started driving the car felt really weird, wind down the windows and when accelerating i could hear the exhaust sound has definately changed... sounded like a helicopter propeller... and sadly felt like i lost alot of pull from my turbo when i was accelerating although i could hear the turbo spool like usual. and alot more vibration (especially in the rear by exhaust) was felt as well when going 2nd, 3rd,4th...what could this be? -

sweet man i think i'll get some earthing kit and some good coilpack and plugs hope that'll sort things out and about smoking issue i went to work today and it wasnt too bad, when it does happen though it's not a blueish smoke or thick its very light and disperses pretty quickly in my opinion, but after work when i turned the car on it started rough and rpm was really low....... and rough idle ... then died... it fored up second time buut was abit annoying... hence me wanting to fix this damn ignition problem... i recently had an engine and gearbox conversion, engine did 80k and gbox 20k mint but dunno why it starts so crap... do all 32's have a similar problem? -

Improving Ignition And Idle On R32 Skyline Gtst

cheers for the input bro, i'll save the bucks on the other two options but i think i'll still change the coilpack and the plugs in to some better ones just in case that make a difference. i'll check out the o2 sensor since i just got my cat taken out and one other thing, after taking the cat out the car seems to smoke abit more than before, is this normal? (whitish not thick) it's not when i'm on the gas but when i'm at idle or slowing down to idle it is winter where i am now and hoping that it'll be just condensation?? -

thanks for your reply, the engine and the is the car is currently completely stock except what i've described above and the coilpacks and plugs are aftermarket ones that i installed brand new, apparently some replica of splitfire ones that cost about 200 bucks i thought i shouldnt be having any sort of miss cos the sparks and the coilpacks are brand new but if you describe my pop, thumping noise as a slight miss i guess i can assume that the ones i installed arnt that good.. i was hoping option 1 2 and 3 would solve the problem maybe i should change the sparks and coilpacks to better ones first? and the earth kits doesnt help much? did anyone have a similar issue? or did a similar setup and saw an improvement? -
hello all! just wanted to ask since hcr32's and other 32 skylines are known for their non smooth idle and start up (since the car is 20yrs old after all).. i was wondering if this electrics set up would help the car fire up smoothly and keep idle smoothly as well... my current ride is hcr32, pod filter, hks style muffler, cat taken out and 3"tube instead, non branded coilpacks and spark plugs. currently, my gtst upon start up, it starts abit rough, then rpm suddenly rises then comes back down again to maintain about 900-1000rpm (i guess this is pretty normal?) and when driving after engine is warmer, and come to an idle there's abit of a soft pop/thumping noise you can hear at the exhaust, and can feel inside the car slightly as well... i dunno what this is but any ideas to what this would be much appreciated now to get rid of these rough start problems and improve my idle i plan to: 1. install splitfire super direct ignition system (everyone says these are pretty good? am i wrong?) 2. installsplitfire d-spark earth system (good call? or not?) 3. and maybe a dspark max electric flow system (if you guys think these are necessary any input would be helpful) will this setup improve my overall ignition and put an end to the problems?? any input would be helpful and thank you in advance. __________________

yeah sounds real similar to mine, in the initial start it's abit rougher than i want it to be but if its normal then i guess i cant complain, do you get the low thumping noise from exhaust after you're in idle as well? like normal tone..... then suddenly thump...normal then thump thump then back to normal again, kinda sounds like it's missing? or blocked or something, the cars rpm is steady though, doesnt jump up and down or anything... hmmmm i wonder if this is normal as well...

found a slightly better description, idles fairly smoothly as per normal however you can feel these low-pitched subtle pops/thumps coming out of the exhaust which you can feel while sitting in the car. when you drive it doesnt jump around or miss or anything but kinda bothers me, anyone have any idea what this is?? please help!

hello all i'm new to the world of skylines since i just got my 1990 skyline gts-t Here's the intro. i love my new baby but it hasn't been a smooth ride, took abit of work to get to where i am now, the car had a new motor and gbox put in done 80k and 20k but soon after i ran into problems such as limp modes and rough idle which i've fixed (for anyone who is wondering it was caused by faulty cam angle sensor, ignitor and afm) which took me nearlly a month of searching since it was a very intermittent problem. so far i have installed apexi pod, new coilpack and sparks(non branded), took the cat out, put 3" tube instead and but a hks style muffler on. alot more planned but due to $ i have to fix my probs first. Now the car is running much better than start but i have another issue thatwas bothering me, when i turn the ignition on, the car starts runs slightly rough and suddenly rpm rises and falls back down to about 1000-900 which i heard was normal on rb engines, (correct me if i'm worng), might get a good earth kit and split fires to fix that but my main concern is in the exhaust, (the car had been outside in the rain in wonter for about 2 weeks when it went to the garage) now i didnt notice it b4 but when i changed the muffler to hks type the exhaust sound seems irregular, for example it doesnt keep a constant tune all the time, it sometimes makes a very very soft pop? pulse, change in pitch dont know how to describe perfectly.. sorry... then goes to normal sound and suddenly changes sound again and so on, as if its blocked which i checked but wasnt. and also since taking the cat out it seems to make more smoke out of the exhaust, not thick but normal exhaust smoke whitish colour is this normal? just condensation? since it's been abit wet these days? i havee searched high and low but maybe its normal for skylines? what could be the issue with my exhaust sound? is it supppose to sound abit irregular? any input would be much appreciated thank you for reading my long post.
