  1. Nup, it was actually on the quarter mile it blew up. The motor was suffering massive amount of Det, and was shedding the electrodes from spark plugs. One may have come off and rattled around, but it looks as if the det blew out the side of the piston rings too. You'll see more once you remove the piston and rod.
  2. K13 owner here.....
  3. Was there ever a "go to whoa" comp at texi? Wouldn't be hard just to set it up between changing courses. Could be fun to test the skills vs power
  4. You'll have to replace and splice the loom and plugs with it. It's not as easy as swapping the motor in. The you have the issue of the 4spd tranny vs the 35 which runs a 5spd, which might mean headaches. All in all, it's better off to sell up, and buy a real vq35, it's going to be cheaper too.
  5. RBR said they still had a wastegate for safety of the motor, but apparently it's not a necessity because of the energy generation motor attached to the turbine. Doesn't really matter. Still sound like wet farts. Get the old cars out the sheds and turn some wheels.
  6. Tbh, I think these cars look better with a bit of sidewall on them. I've got 19x8.5 and 225/40 all round. I've been holding off commenting here, because in my opinion "stance" is not a positive one...
  7. Helping out....
  8. Looks familiar, Rudi I don't mind it, might need the side stripes to tie it all together.
  9. This is what I'd be doing. I've seen those chingchong calipers around a fair bit, so, getting some pads into market wouldn't be a bad thing.
  10. Noice. Drop it like it's hot. Needs moar low desperately.
  11. Rear brakes seem to be a Bit haphazard as of 2014. The regenerative power systems haven't given the drivers a lot of confidence in braking. Was it me or was there a lot of cars putting wheels onto the grass into corners over the weekend?
  12. It was a little strange seeing the McLaren not make much ground on the RB down the straight, when all the talk was about how slow the Renault was in a straight line. Overall it's a sad state of affairs for a sport that revived such a PR boost in this country with Dans result. Not saying it could be over looked for the PR, but it's just sad. I skimmed over that stewards report, makes me very uneasy about these fuel flow meters for "parity".
  13. Power. Not economy. The economy part is the fact they only have 100 litres to start and finish the race with. Fuel flow restricts the maximum power available from the turbo motor. Otherwise with an unrestricted flow, you could run massive power to pass at will, then just trickle around to save fuel.
  14. Well done Dan. Rosbergs merc looked the goods. I still reckon Dan stepped into Vettels car this arvo. Good to see the McLarens back in the mix, even button doing ok!
  15. Except for vq35de ones
  16. Just to answer the question in the OP, the group A's use holinger boxes. Guess that answers the question somewhat...
  17. Getting wet boys?
  18. Yeah, sure. But the way I look at it, the way the fuel is setup, you don't need the rpm to make the speed. You could use 15,000 to stretch a gear between corners, but really, all the torque and acceleration of these motors will be based in lower rpm. I suspect that's why they got an extra cog. We only got use to stratospheric rpm because of the NA motors. I have the answer. Too many cars sitting in sheds. Make a category for ex f1 cars, that gentleman drivers can come and complete in. De tune the engines a bit so they can last 1/2 a season or whatever. Give them a control tyre, and replace the porsche cup with them!!! Year catagories to keep a bit of parity.
  19. Why would you take it to 15,000? That's the question. You have 5 motors to last the season. You have a limited fuel delivery. You have a turbo that can be spun up electrically for boost at any revs. You have 8 gears to keep the motor in the torque range. Why bother with 15k, if you don't have to? Not saying I like it, just makes sense not to rev it for the sake of it.
  20. Orly? Doesn't rattle, but fark, the harmonics are a bitch from 2600-2000 under deceleration! Dunno if the 6spd is any different to a 5spd.
  21. Heater on/ doesn't matter I don't think. There isn't a valve in them to stop the coolant flowing, is there? Having it on is just a good indication that you haven't an airlock in the core.
  22. Yup, rear bleed point is higher than the rad neck. I artificially raise it up with hose and funnel, and it's a far more effective bleed point than the rad neck. Make sure your heater is on and pumping hot air out.
  23. Yeah, I like the whistle! It's that drone underneath it that's meh. Anything sound crazy different to the norm?
  24. What do they sound like fags? Watching telly, in car on Dans car sound shite, like a MotoGP bike almost, but outside of car isn't as bad... Scrap that. Sound shit. Lol.
  25. There is only one on ours, and it's a triangular assembly where the coolant hose returns into the block. There are other multiple thermostats on things like the pathfinder, located down in the Vee of the block, however that channel is just blanked off in our cars. Obviously the simple stuff was looked at? They are notoriously hard to bleed. I top it up, close the cap, put the nose down the hill, and then put a hose on the rear tap/ball valve nice and high. Then it will take 15-20 mins to bleed once the car is at operating temp. Topping up as you go. The rad top tank also is prone to cracks/seals leaking.
