  1. But there are quite a few S2s around for 10-11k. Surely not all of them are bad? I guess the only way to find out is to go have a look at them and get them tested by StateRoads. Do StateRoads do compression testing? From what I can see from their sample report they don't. How can I go about getting a compression test done if I am on the other wide of the city? Hmmm.
  2. Ah ok. I think the speedo is just not working. As in it's at 0kmh all the time. There are quite a few R33s for 10k. Do you think this is too cheap? From looking at carsales, a lot of the ones that cost more don't have any lower ks or more mods, the owners just want more for them from what I can see. Obviously I still need a mechanic to go over them.
  3. If only I had the money! Awesome car man, I would kill for one of those in black (just like Bangaz Boy's car). Almost everyone I know prefers 32's and 34's, but there's just something about 33's that I find so sexy. Would take a 33 GTR over any other GTR any day of the week.
  4. Button clutch. That's what my mechanic said it was. Not really into them if they are all like that lol. Yeah there are a few cheap R33s going around, I may have to try and make an effort to get to the other side of town to have a look at a few. There's one I like that mentioned that it has a broken speedo. How much are they to fix roughly?
  5. Thanks for all the replies guys. All very helpful. Yeah I'm definitely staying away from this particular R33, but the positives are that I learnt a lot about what to look for when looking at cars. There are a few really nice R33s on the other side of town (all the ones in the Western Suburbs seem to be in a lot rougher condition lol) that I wanna take a look at. I just need to find the time to go have a look because I work on weekends and don't want to go see a car at night. May have to wait until daylight savings starts unfortunately, or start looking at importing. In regards to that clutch, I'm glad to hear that all heavy duty clutches aren't that weak. Because that one was REALLY annoying. If anyone else has anything more to add please keep the posts coming, I'm learning a lot. Cheers.
  6. What do you mean lighter? The heavy duty clutch in the skyline I drove was "harder" to drive because it was more difficult to drive than the clutch in my Prelude. In terms of "hardness" or firmness. The skyline clutch was much lighter. The clutch in my Prelude pushes against my foot quite hard, which is what I'm used to. Hence why I kept stalling the skyline, because I was taking my foot off too quickly and the car just stalled. Does that make sense? Basically the clutch in the Skyline only had a very low "friction point". I couldn't pull the clutch out very far before it stalled. Whereas with my Prelude I can pull the clutch out heaps without stalling. Is that normal for a Skyline? Or is that just how Heavy Duty Clutches work? Cheers.
  7. Sweet thanks for the help guys. Yeah I wasn't big on that clutch, but I slowly got used to it the more I drove it. I guess after a couple of weeks it would become second nature. I'm hoping to run 200rwkw when I eventually get my car, so I'm guessing even if I do find a car with a stock clutch, it won't last very long. I guess I'll just have to get used to it.
  8. ^^^^^^^^^ I realise that's a lot to read But if you guys can just answer my question about the clutch. Do Heavy Duty Clutches all stall that easily? Is it something you just have to get used to when taking off? Or does that one sound f*#ked? Cheers.
  9. I'm pretty sure in Victoria the restriction is only on P Platers, not L Platers. So if your dad has a VE SS, you can learn to drive on it, but once you get your licence it's a big no no. Makes sense if you ask me. I can't see many L Platers going spastic in a high powered car with mummy or daddy in the passenger seat. At least not if they had my parents lol.
  10. Went down to the dealer to test drive this puppy today Burgundy R33 from CarsGuide All looked good from the pics, but it wasn't until I got it to my mechanic that he was able to show me a few things wrong with the car. Burgundy R33 Web Album I can't believe I didn't spot this myself, but the car had obviously been resprayed, and the colours did not match up at all as you can see from the pics (you can even see it from the pics the dealer has up on the site, but from close up it's even more obvious). The handbrake handle was broken. You don't need to be Einstein to figure that out once you get in the car, but it wasn't mentioned to me when I rang them. But what interested me the most was the fact that my mechanic seems to think that where the air intake has been put in, they've cut through the body of the car to fit it in. Can anybody else notice that from the pics I took? I didn't quite get what he was talking about. There's also holes in the body just behind the front left wheel and the front left of the bonnet isn't even. It's slightly pushed in. If you look at the two photos I took of the bonnet you can see the first pic isn't even. The mechanic picked all of this up in a matter of minutes. There was also moisture build up in the headlights which I forgot to take a photo of too. He didn't even bother getting it up on the hoist, he just said to keep away from this one. Also, how is a heavy duty clutch supposed to feel? Because the dealer told me that it has a heavy duty clutch, and to me (and the mechanic) it was VERY sensitive and very easy to stall. Taking off in 1st in that thing is a nightmare. Are all heavy duty clutches like this? If so, I'm gonna stick to stock lol. My mechanic told me I'm better off going private with cars like these and look for one that's been taken care of. Preferably by someone older. So if anyone knows any older and mature R33 owners that are selling their cars, let me know lol. BIG eye opener. I'm gonna have to be very careful. I'm seriously considering importing too. Hopefully the IronChef or someone can find me a nice clean R33 in good nick.
  11. Yeah I am definitely getting the cars checked out by a mechanic before buying. Already had Dad speak to his mechanic, and he said if I can get the car to his shop he will only charge me $25 to check the car out. I had a quick look on ebay, and a boost controller and TT should only set me back around $500. But then I'm guessing installation is the most expensive part. I'm hoping any R33 I buy will at least have an aftermarket exhaust. I just hope JustCars pay me out now!!!! I'm getting too excited!!!!!!!!!! Thanks again Ten Four. Edit: Also, just what kind of 1/4 mile time are you looking at with 200rwkw roughly? I know there is a lot more to 1/4 times than kw, but just a rough guide. Coz I'd be rapped with mid 13's. Is 200rwkw overkill for that (I'll be shattered if it's not enough lol)?
  12. Awesome! Thanks guys. Will definitely keep an eye out over the next month or so. The inspector from JustCars is coming to assess my Prelude tomorrow, so hopefully I can get at least 5k for it. Just another question. If I had a more or less stock R33, how much would it cost to do all of that? Parts and labour. Cheers.
  13. Thanks mate, I just read the whole thing. All 5 pages. Very helpful. Does anyone have any advice in regards to the power I am seeking though? Also, does anyone know of any dealers in Victoria (preferably Melbourne) that sell Skylines? Cheers.
  14. Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and turbos, so I'd really appreciate some help. My 92 Prelude looks like it may be written off (kid in a 4X4 backed into me at Uni, he didn't see me behind him). Yeah, I drive a Honda... you can stop laughing now... So anyways, I'm off my P's now and figured it's time to buy a turbo. I was looking at 32's and 33's when I was 18, but decided I should stick with something a bit slower until I was more mature. So, what should I look for in a 33 GTS-T? I want something that has, or is capable of 200+ rwkw. Doesn't have to be high or even mid 200's, as long as it's over 200rwkw I think that would be plenty for me, considering my Prelude is/was like 140kw at the flywheel. My budget is under 10k, and I see a lot of R33's in good nick (or at least they appear to be in good nick) on Carsales in this price range. However, most sellers obviously don't have dyno sheets of what power they have atw. So roughly what type of mods would it take to break 200rwkw in a R33 GTS-T? 3" Exhaust system FMIC Boost Gauge (I'd probs run stock boost for daily driving and go up to 12psi when I wanna have some fun) Pod filter? Some people say they are overrated. Anything else? Do you recommend that I look for a car with a turbo timer? Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated after you have finished laughing at my n00biness (and my Prelude). Cheers.
