They changed them because individual internal ignitors are better and they updated the loom plugs to a better design. series 1 uses the same type used in old 300zx and those plugs suck.

I dont know about abs in gts models but the only 33 that came with xenon was a series 3 GTR(or 4 door GTR) and afaik all 34s came with xenon headlights.

i think your prices and your goals are a bit muddled. 16-18k to spend on buying an N/A Syline? no way. easily get 33's lower than 8 and easily get 34's lower than 12. Autech S15's are pretty expensive (iirc 16-20k but the good thing is they keep their value for resale). N/A skylines are slow boats and any performance modifications other than a pod would be down right retarded for a P Plater. if you were to buy an N/A skyline, just make sure its manual and has a sound system and spend the next 2 years learning how to drive. but to me even that is stupid. my opinion is that P Platers shouldnt be focusing on how cool their car is and how it handles. they should be out on the roads every day racking up driving experience so that they can navigate the road with proper skill and confidence. they shouldnt be f**kin around with rwd cars,rippin skids and trying to drift.i drove a 1.6L fwd Impreza for 4 years, clocking up about 180,000ks. i did some dumb shit in that car as it was, but i certainly learned a lot about driving on the roads. instead of worrying about skids,mods,licence suspensions,driving records(for offences other than speeding) and emptying your wallet as a P Plater, just buy a good cheap car and drive it. buy a beautiful turbo car when you are on your opens and have the points to spare for defects and other offences. /Rant. maybe there is something better your money could go towards,but if you are like me i see nothing better to spend money on than turbo cars . you should put the money away and save it for a 34 GT-T when you get on your opens. trust me, your first turbo car will probably get written off or something happen to it. so dont save up for your first turbo car to be a 34 GTR, because chances are it may go BYE-BYE. its all trial and error when you start hoppin into cars with power you're not used to. hope these freezing 6am ramblings have helped. good luck mate.

i have owned 2 R33's, one with S1 engine and the other a S2 engine. when i hit 5500RPM(ish) i get a big kick onwards in torque. i have also driven a NEO RB25DET several times, it feels completely different to drive(obviously because of the constantly variable VCT as opposed to on/off VCT) and has no kick whatsoever. just a much smoother rev range all the way through. can also verify another mate feels the same way about his 34 and notices the difference when he drives his mates sil80 with a 33 RB25DET installed. is this kick coming from vct coming on or off? also iirc:NEO uses GTR connecting rods to compensate for the smaller combustion chamber.

Bit of an odd rarity i noticed a series 1.5 4 door R33 built in i believe December 96. GTS25T with the model code ER33 instead of ECR33. Guessing they made too many non turbo shells and decided to make them turbo for the final releases of series 1.5. I know this wasn't a conversion because the build plate had the model and rb25det on it. totally Meh discovery for most but i found it interesting and thought i would share.

anyone done the rb34 yet apart from the spool test car?
