An update for anyone filling up with E85 at Rozelle. 127 Victoria Road (02) 9555 7619 Went there today to fill up my STi on an empy tank .... they have no E85. They said maybe tomorrow. I'd advise anyone going there in the next few days to ring first. I'm going to see if I can make it to the Caltex on Lyons road to get 5-10 litres to get by with. Brian

It’s not about the peak power unless you are racing at afast track. What makes the car so good is the relatively flat strong torque, quick gear changes and reasonably low gearing. It pulls very strong from2000rpm and does it so easy. Brian

One's a taxi on a generic platform trying to be a sports car, the other is a purpose built sports car trying to be a taxi (daily driver). Like trying to compare my very quick F6 (which does 130mph+ passes) and the R35 ... pretty much a waste of time. Brian

Thanks, that's fine. I'm a moderator on fordxr6turbo.com, so I understand your position. Brian

With regards to site rules: Defamatory remarks made towards businesses or individuals will not be tolerated on this website - OK We understand that if you have had a bad experience with a business you want to warn other people of said experience. True Unfortunately, the same publicly expressed opinion could be viewed as libelous I did not express an opinion; it was factual and based on real experience with regard to a GTR R35 purchase. I keep details records & emails of all correspondence. It is very relevant to this forum. and/or constitute an attempt to deter business from any individual or business. Argumentative. In this case borrower beware if trying to finance a GTR R35 through Suncorp, if my experience is any guide to current policy. Like many banks that company's policy may change in the future. Brian

Anyone know if it is available for the 2011 model yet? Brian

This thread was about a company purchase, and you need to look at it differently from a private purchase. For each $1 dollar spent out of the company cash pool there is a corresponding 43 cents in company tax that needs to be paid.... i.e it needs to be grossed up. Brian

On the 11 I'm seeing 15lb max boost on the boost gauge. I'm not sure if 12 pound is standard for the earlier model. Cruising along at 2500rpm in 6th and onto the accelerator will see 15lb by 3000rpm. Factory spooling is pretty good, for what I believe is a non-billet compressor turbo. As Mr Mizumo told us, the car (11) has more power than stated, and by seat of the pants I'd say he is correct. I'm going to take the car down wsid in a few weeks time, as I always see trap speed as a good indicative of power. Brian
-
No problems; even though heavier it does have 46% more cubic capacity and 18 years of development over an R32. The 11 will pull around 124mph trap speed at the strip, so it is very good stock. Also, people often look at just peak power, when average power is far more relevant, and how the torque is delivered. Brian

Great result Kymbo. In respect of the J-Rad post people should not compare raw dyno results of one dyno to another dyno, unless they know how that dyno typically reads for a specific model. I would have expected around 300awkw on a dd dyno as guide using standard mode. However, as the dyno is a dyno tool just focus on the before and after results from the same dyno for the changes to a specific car run under the same conditions. In this case the relatively change is huge, with no loss anywhere, and verified on the road.... and a happy customer. Do you know how much more boost was added? p.s I'm blown away by just how good the standard 11 is on the road, after 1600kms in 4 days. Brian

Ultimately, each to their own, and why there are so many opinions here. The financing facility I have set up would probably surprisemost, but I do what suits me best. I think a lot of the views expressed here are from a lot ofguys that don't run their own business, nor into financing arrangements, nor have any experience with financial creativity. I won't go into the full saga with Suncorp, but they did subsequentlyoffer me a loan, and wanted security as well as a fixed and floating charge ofmy company assets. And that was after offering to pay 30% upfront. They arereally an incompetent company. That was enough. Went back to the dealer. Nissan would not offer me thefacility I wanted , even though their loan rate was low, and it would have togo to Japan for approval. The dealer sorted out the finance I wanted through StGeorge, no security required, no fuss, and all within 48 hours. Picked the new MY11 up on Friday, done 1500km in 3 days, with some good driving around the high country in N.E Victoria;awesome car. Brian

I'm not setting this one up as another project car, and initial intentions (subject to change of course) is mild mods if any. This car is very very good in stock form. 11.0 @124mph is a very quick car in street trim, with excellent handling and braking. The basic problem with any turbo car is the addictive nature of the beast, once you get used to the power you want some more. I got the bug in 1982! However, I'm at the stage where I don't want to increase power to anywhere near the level where I start breaking things, and reliability is a more important factor for this car. I have another project happening with my old STi, with Cosworth motor & E85, which will be used for circuit racing, and that has priority this year for me. Brian

Not necessarily in a company situation, where it may not be the best option to use company working capital, and better to keep the asset off the balance sheet, and considering the tax advantages and pre-payment capabilities, and capability to exceed depreciation, and the fact that is usually a straightforward facility .... until I struck this one. A personal purchase is a very different situation Brian

Thanks for the response; fyi I did Actuarial studies at Uniso I know my way around basic financial calcs. I’ve had 10 car leases, and they have always suited myneeds. When the lessor works out the repayments they deduct the gstfrom the principal to use a GST reduced principal from which to determine the repayments, so the lessor canclaim the gst. The gst is added to each repayment and to the residual, and sothe lessee pays and claims the GST. If the lease is in a company name (mine are), usually Itarget the residual at around what the car would be worth at the end of theterm (typically I target a lower residual); any difference between the saleprice and residual is either a capital loss or profit if it then goes onto thecompany books. Sometimes I get the company to buy the car at the end of thelease, sometimes I buy it personally so it does not go onto the company books(especially if it worth more than the payout); just depends on thecircumstances. I’m not sure what a chattel lease is, but I know of achattel mortgage. I’ve never had one. From what I’ve read and been told the caris held as security (that’s why its called a mortgage), you borrow the fullamount, you claim the GST, you depreciate and claim that, you claim the interestcomponent of the repayments, and GST is not added to repayments. In this case the cost of the car is $187,500, made up of: 150,359.85 car + extra + dealer charges 27,868.16 luxury car tax 9,272 Rego& stamp duty GST is 13,669.07 Looks like GTR owners make a good contribution to theeconomy! If there are limits on what GST can be claimed (less thanwhat is actually paid), and limited depreciation capability (based on somethingsubstantially less than the sale price), that may a bearing on which way to go.From what I’ve been reading today it looks like the Government has beenscrewing around here. My company does have the cash to buy outright without aproblem. I’ll talk to my accountant tomorrow, then determine a courseof action. Unfortunately there is limited time. As I said before I’m always receptive to other views andideas. Brian

If I buy outright from the company I will have to pay around $60k in tax. I don't want that. If I go a chattel mortgage, which is an option, then I can claim the GST, interest and depreciation. Most of my cars I lease, and keep off the balance sheet. I have been doing that for 30 years. Tax rates and what can be claimed drive most decisions. Always happy to hear and explore other options Brian

My Suncorp experience : Motor Vehicle Lease GTR I decided to use Suncorp again for a motor vehicle lease(GTR R35) as I have had 4 car leases with them since 1999 (an STi), the last (another STi) ending January last year. In May 2003 I bought a Ford BA turbo and WRX at the same time, and had 2 concurrent leases. A payment has never been missed. SoI decided I'd use them again, as I was a customer, had a good record and they had my company details. All they wanted was the most recent tax returns, which was reasonable. The lease application made over a month ago: quoted 7.95%which was a reasonable rate, although I could have got something marginally cheaper through the dealer. I decided to stick with Suncorp, as I thought itshould be easier. With the application a Contract for Sale was supplied so the car being purchased and purchase amount was clearly identified. It took 3 weeks for accountant to complete 2010 returns company and personal. I thought that would be OK, should be no problem as the company has no debt and enough cash to buy a few GTR's, but I chose to financeit for the tax benefits. The company (my personal company) has been operating since 1980. I am 55 with very healthy net worth, and run an I.T company with 7people working for me. Then, this from Monday this week: Suncorp wanted various bank statements, company, mortgage, 2 personal bank, credit card, not previously requested then Wanted another companies returns (I have a related company) then wanted its bank statements then wanted originals statement, not Netbank shots of the statements then told they will have to charge me 11% not 7.95% (wtf), as amount is over $150k then after my protest they will reduce it to 8.95% then we will not give you a lease on this vehicle as it is a GTR then we will consider giving you a lease if you transfer all your accounts; companies, personal, mortgages over to Suncorp (wtf) …. Response was a quick no way. Unbelievable. Every day this week they have requested something new, andwasted a significant amount of my time. When I requested to talk to a senior manager in loans I wastold I could not, and that she would discuss with her "team leader". I even said I will be pre-paying lease payments, paying 12months of payments in June, which is to their benefit. I get a tax benefit fromthis, so both parties win. I'm beginning to doubt that they understand that they are running a business. This is clearly an amateur organization, disorganized, inconsistent, lacking integrity to honour an agreement. At this stage my car will be ready for pickup in a weekstime. If there is anyone here from senior management in Suncorp,I'd like to hear from them. I'm now looking into alternative financing quickly, and on the basis of this experience would not recommend Suncorp to anyone. Brian

I also went along on Friday morning, along with other guysfrom Gold Coast, W.A, Adelaide & Sydney, and Melbourne locals. I don't have an earlier model GTR so can't compare. I have a couple of F6's that have a lot more power than theGTR, but they are no match for the way that GTR launches, grips, brakes and goes around corners. That was what I was expecting and want in the car, and Icame away very satisfied. That launch control is something special. I don't think my wife would have any trouble at all driving the GTR35; it is very easy to drive with very good manners and very sociable. Compared to other car prices in this country, for what it offers in standard spec is unbeatable. Meeting Mr Mizuno and listening to the design challenges andvarious improvements was a highlight of the day, and it was good to meet someof the other guys from the forum. Thanks to Nissan for putting on the day, and it wasextremely enjoyable. Now just look forward to getting the next car next week. Brian

I'm going next Friday. Looking forward to it, then hopefully the new R35 arrives the following week. Brian

Thanks Martin. The 1000HP motor in the XR6 was a mismatch for the rest of the car. Basically the Ford is a taxi, although comfortable, and will never ever be a sports car. That Ford project was fun, as we started in mid 2003 with no mods whatever (not even an ecu crack or piggyback) and 180rwkw, to over 600rwkw 3 years later…. Spent a lot of money and broke lots of parts along the way, and plenty of R&D. I remember your help (2005 I think) for me along the way when we were trying to get the US vendor (SCT) to get the variable cam timing adjustment working with the flash tune, after I migrated from Motec. Also big power really needs awd. Nissan base parts appear to be very strong. I note your involvement with the GTR, and some of the weak points if power is tobe increased. Seems you've got some good parts available. I'm really excited about getting hold of the newGTR. The 2010 demo that I test drove was just so good, powerful, well balanced, well equipped and easy to drive in stock form. It's a pleasant change to get a car, and find that there are already plenty of go fast options available. Brian Yep, kept the same username. I still have 2 high powered Ford F6's, one will be for sale shortly, as well as 2 STi's, one to be used for circuit racing this year. I did do a 138mph pass at full weight on street tyres (not semi slicks) in the manual F6; the auto F6 daily driver has done132mph on pump fuel and 11.0 flat quarter. It would be far easier to get to that level inthe GTR. I believe the new GTR will do around 11.1 sec and 125 mph stock standard, and would be very easy to get over 130mph trap speed with minimal mods. I'll take it to wsid after I get it to see what it will do. However, I have a view that the GTR is far more suited for circuit work than straight line squirts, as it is a drivers car. Tunehouse, who arguably have one of the best dyno room setups in the country, are very eager to get hold of the new GTR, as they are a Akrapovic distributor and premium HKS Pro dealer. The Akavopvic Tiexhaust may be my first mod; ref Brian

Thanks guys. This car will be my 9th brand new turbo car purchase since 1984, but certainly the first time a manufacturer has really tried to clarify what is required to support and maintain the car. It goes without saying that the GTR is at a level well beyond any of my previous cars. Brian

I ordered a new GTR at the end of last year, which should be arriving in a months time. I attach a form which was given to me 2 weeks ago to sign. It is dated 27 January, 2011and I am now told that it is a condition of sale for all new vehicles, and I have to sign it now if I want my car, even though my contract pre-dated the date of this new document. It outlines operational aspects of the car, and maintenance and warranty conditions and coverage. Is this a new document from Nissan, or has it been applicable to previous models? I'm not sure if it is indicating a crackdown on any modifications by stating (page 10, interesting page) that in the case of "vehicles with illegal and unauthorized modifications" that Nissan's policy is that "maintenance services cannot be performed". Nissan provide "free" maintenance inspections at 2000km, 12, 24 & 36 months, that appear to be mandatory to protect warranty. Any parts replacement will be chargeable. However, there are situations where you will be charged for the maintenance inspection: - e.g replace standard parts with non-genuine Nissan parts e.g exhaust, wheel or brakes or tyre changes, during which time warranty is voided. - e.g drive with VDC off My interpretation (page 10) is that warranty is voided if there is a parts failure whilst you are driving around the track. e.g take the the car to a Nissan drive day and you will not be covered for say transmission failure. I do not find the wording very clear at all. It is indicating that if you take the car around the circuit that warranty is voided from that time until such time as you take the car back to the dealer for a maintenance service that you have to pay for. The cars "Vehicle Status Data Recorder" will be checked to see if the car has been modified or operating outside of normal boundaries. Brian NE 11MY GOM Customer Agreement 27.01.11.pdf

$184.5k in Sydney yesterday $1500 extra for grey or blue. $3000 extra for special silver, that has 10 extra coats on it. Seems good value to me. Dealer is taking orders for April now. Brian
