FREIGHT F.A.Q AND RECOMMENDATIONS
FATGTS-R replied to Gary2's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
I am also in the transport industry and the above advice given is spot on. You would be suprised how many times parcels can be handled before it gets to your door and thats where the damage happens. If its Friday night and the courier wants to get to the pub I assure you he will be flinging those boxes out his van into the depot very quickly. Another problem is a lot of the jobs involved are basically just labour and they get paid minimum wages and without being steroetypical a lot of them are just zombies. They will put a small light box with fragile on it in neon lights under a large box that two of them needed to lift without a second thought. The best tip I can give is try to make things as idiot proof as posible. Dont use a crappy box you found lying around the shed thats paper thin coz it WILL crush. Use stiff, thick cored cartons. Dont print the address and tape it on as it can come off. Write it on in bold thick permanent marker, not a friggin pen as I see often. Include full details of receiver and sender with mobile numbers. Dont use the 5mm wide tape on your desk. Use thick packaging tape and there is no such thing as using too much. If the item doesnt fill the box, dont let it shake around, chock it in there well. Cut the box down too the item size. Just like you and your christmas pressies, these idiots will shake the life outta it trying to guess whats inside. Write "fragile - glass" on it. Not everyone will give a damn, but the ones that do see it and respect it will handle it safer and it might be the difference between a broken item or not. What you send gets passed along the chain gang from pick up to your door. From the red light running courier driver, to the sorters who just finshed five bongs, onto a semi whos driver is full of speed and hasnt slept for five months, to another depot where the guy unloading is on the mobile not paying attention and puts it in the wrong bin where its on the wrong courier van and is thrown around all day to get to his other deliveries and then back to the depot, thrown round again, onto the right van and finally at your door.......hopefully the way it left. -
The Best Machine Shop for RB Motors
FATGTS-R replied to WetGTR's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Sorry for the hijack but I am in the transport industry and that is a extremely good price, especially as it included the driver getting off his butt and doing something and double handling the pallet to put it on a semi after the tray. People should note that number down for future reference. -
"I can here the turbine spinning but i cant feel much boost." Is boost pressure and rpm still rising at the normal rate but there is a lack of power? Clutch???

A letter from your employer stating your position requires you to have a drivers licence and that without one they have no choice to terminate or significantly reduce your hours could help a lot in court. A guy where I work lost his licence on points on his P plates, mainly for speeding. While disqualified from driving he decided it was a great idea to go to his local reserve and proceed to do donuts/burnouts etc on the grass after it had rained and totally rip it all up. He got bogged and couldnt get out and was caught by police there in a compromising situation. He got a summons to appear in court for driving whilst disqualified, wilful damage etc, but had regained his licence before the hearing date. The boss typed a letter basically saying his position would be terminated if his licence was revoked ( in this case true as he is a truck driver ) and that he has shown a more mature attitude since gaining the job etc etc ( that part is all crap lol ). In court the judge told him his job was the only reason he was not taking his licence away immediately for a very long time. He kept it on probation and received a fortune in fines as well as paying damages to the local council for the mess he made of the park.

Anybody got info on this "stuff" to put on the tyres? My rears are either old tyres that have been in the sun for too long or just have a ridiculously hard compound. They just refuse to wear out. The traction is hopeless but I cant bring myself to throw out 265 tyres with heaps of tread left.

Mega clunking from rear- 2 way diff??
FATGTS-R replied to neil_se's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I would get the driveline looked at as Duncan mentioned. The AUS R31 skyline is famous for clunking and carrying on just as you have described. And it definately does not have a mech LSD. I have one as a daily driver and get the same thing. Pull into the driveway at low speed, dip the clutch and then "PHWOOMP". Drifto described it well as feeling like a sledge hammer was swung under the car. -
Dont bother doubting it, give it a try. Could be a bank account he opened there and has moved away since. Also, I'm not sure how it works with net banking between two independant people but I know with credit cards/debit cards and a business if you have a dispute the bank will immediately return your money and make the business prove that the transaction is legitimate before giving there money back.

Congratulations. I was hoping you would come back with a 12 second pass. Can I ask what time it ran using the 7,000rpm limit? Both our cars make maximum power at 6,000rpm but I think mine must fall away a lot more sharply than yours as I would have zero benefit revving that hard to 7,800rpm. You know you want throw in a set of cams before you sell it. -
Solely for the purpose of topping up my knowledge bank, can somebody explain the positives vs negatives of larger and smaller piston to bore clearances?

I was always told to get my fuel from a servo that was always busy hence turned over a lot of fuel due to a going off thing. But I guess a downside is getting fuel of the bottom of the tank. But how long will fuel last before its performance starts to wither?

Fibreglass and other advice needed
FATGTS-R replied to Niroth's topic in General Automotive Discussion
If you have taken it back 3 times and still obviously unhappy with the result why not ask for your money back? Or keep taking it back again and again and again till its right or he gets fed up and gives your money back anyway. You said it was part of a group buy, so how did others peoples bonnets come out? -
I didnt go but my mate had aspirations of taking out the dyno comp. He was first up ( supercharged Rodeo ) and it blew a headgasket. He was shattered to say the least as he would of taken it out by 30-40kw.

Flywheel KW compared to RWKW? R33 Gtst?
FATGTS-R replied to benl1981's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
As engine power increases, the drivetrain losses would increase to a point but not at anywhere near the same rate. I think what SK was alluding to is that there is a certain amount of power the drivetrain will transform into heat and thats about it. Using the "rule of thumb", an R33 GTST manual that cranked out say 800rwkw, using the 26% rule would have 1008kw at engine. Thats 208kw that would have to be transfered into heat. Now I'm out of my league in making any educated guess as to what the gearbox and diff temps would equate to but Im sure its damn hot. The percentage rule seems to sell a lot of magazines though.......... -
Very interesting. When you remove it post up some pics. Be interesting to see what this devices intentions were.

Hi Roy, I also have searched to no avail for the cam specs. Another GTSR owner in NSW got a rebuild done and didnt remember to get the cams checked out. The turbo is definately factory GTSR. see below.

Do a search on "RB24" as its been mentioned a few times. But in short I beleive the 4agze pistons need the pin height altered to suit. But they are forged and ceramic coated. I got a back issue of HPI mag with something I bought and they were carrying out the conversion. Someone may have all the issue numbers and can give some more info. From memory, they used 82mm pistons but had to sleeve the block as the wall thicknesses were too thin in some areas after a sonic test.

The nics manifold is different but the red top eccs is very similar to R32 and are interchangeable. Pretty sure the only diff is the R32 has slighly larger runners and/or plenum but have not verified. I would say you have the R32 inlet manifold as you mentioned the injectors are the same. The red tops use a hose tail type compared to the silvers o-ring type. And the rails do not interchange, I tried. If the spacer is there, I dare say its a red top. As mentioned, the spacer has butterflies on every second port ( red tops are 12 port heads ) which are closed at lower rpms to help the turbo spool faster and give better off boost response and open up when its on song for maximum airflow. The downside is the spindle runs through all 12 ports and ends up being a restriction, I estimate it is equivalent to having one port completley blocked off. Now considering the silver top RB20 only has a 6 port head, this spacer would be useless.

Sydneykid, as superspit alluded to are you saying that BP 98 in VIC is something else? I actually just became suspicious of this possibility as I was coming over the westgate bridge and looking over into Altona, where the refineries are they have painted up one of the larger storage tanks with the BP ULTIMATE logo for all and sundry to see when driving over it. But from what I understand, the only refinery out there belongs to MOBIL????

FATGTS-R replied to RBsileighty's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
KIL.08s. You mentioned the plenum was changed over to an ECCS type from the previous NICS type. Is this power being made on the older red top RB20, 12 port head? -
The Biggest Brain Explosion Ever!!!
FATGTS-R replied to rednut's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Two for me as well. 17 years old and I know ZERO about cars. I see a TA22 celica for sale and knock on the guys door. Wants $400 but it has mags so I dont give a shit and think its the ants pants. He takes it for a spin with me ( with the stereo blasting so I cant hear all the noises ) and he does a burnout and I nearly wet my pants with excitement. Run home get money and come back and buy it off him. Get it to a mechanic for a RWC inspection and when I come back the mechanics are pissing themselves laughing as I have purchased the biggest lemon they have ever seen, bog everywhere, engine is nearly dead etc etc. The repair list was into the thousands of dollars and they told me to take it to the tip. Discouraged, I took it home where it sat in the backyard for months untill my parents wanted me to move it. The battery was flat, so I grabbed the one of my parents car to start it when I put the terminals on backwards and fried everything. Ended up getting picked up by a wrecker for $50. That was 10 years ago but more recently had the good old car fight with the missus, you know, when they jump out of the car and you follow them at 10km/hr with the hazards on saying "can you please just get back in the car". Anyways, the stalking aint working so I get out to follow on foot. The obligatory "ok ok Im sorry blah blah " goes on and we return to the car and you guessed it the keys are inside and doors are locked. 10.00pm and nobody is around. Call on a mate for a favour who is at his fathers 50th birthday and he does me good and drives out to me with some tools and stuff approx. 45 minutes away. He gets out and goes to his boot and grabs his tool box and walks over to my drivers side. Looks at me blankly, turns around, and bumps my door with his ass and the lock pops up. It hadnt shut properley. -
