Top RB20 Club... do you have over 260rwkw?
FATGTS-R replied to RBsileighty's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
What is the actual factory rev limit set at on RB20s? I ask as mine has come back from tuning with a/m ecu and it made its max power figure at 6,000rpm as most do with factory cams. The tuner set up the ecus shift light at 6,500rpm with the rev limiter at 7,000rpm. But it seems like the limiter might need to go up to maybe 7500rpm as it "feels" like its got plenty left in it and im short changing myself ( no pun intended ) shifting below 7000rpm. -
My R31 GTSR was returned to me on Monday. Mods are: GTR injectors, walbro pump, custom fuel rail and all new lines. Exhaust, pod and ecu. The rest is standard, remembering GTSR had a TO3/4E from factory. I also removed all the butterflies and the spindle from the sandwich plate between head and inlet manifold. Results were 225rwkw @ 13psi and 170rwkw @ 6-7psi.

Anybody around the city today? Have a peek at the MCG. There were 5 HUGE GROLLO cranes yesterday and today there is 4.5. One of them literally snapped off from where the operator sits. It is still attached but is drooping along the ground. Spoke to one of the tradesmen and apparently it smashed its way through a couple new buildings and came very very close to hitting the security guards hut, which was occupied. On a lighter note a had a laugh to myself at all the lawn bowls clubs I seen today. They had turned into swimming pools with the curators standing around scratching there heads.

Mine was done the same way as ricelines, and the same as many cars I have seen. Just chop off 90% of the cover and leave only enough for the pack to sit on.
-
Heavily worked? Forgive me if I am wrong but dont the 5.7litre comordores have about 300rwhp as standard?
-
The reason why epa dont like programable ecu is because as its name implies its programable. You could show them your car having better emissions than standard ecu but there is nothing to stop you programming later on to be worse than standard.

Light weight flywheel = less torque?
FATGTS-R replied to wilch's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
My mate has a 140rwkw na R31 and installed a lightweight flywheel. As mentioned by others the first and most obvious difference you will notice is that you need more revs to get the car off from a standstill. He was stalling it for the first day as he wasnt used to feeding it so much revs. It idled a little worse so he just increased idle speed a tad. You really need to change your driving style with one, as he also noticed he had to change gears a lot quicker, even just driving around sedately. But his personal opinion is that the pros outweigh the cons. -
rb25 head mods, injectors and cam gear
FATGTS-R replied to CEF11E's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
If it means anything to you I just had a custom billet fuel rail made up to suit my GTR injectors on an RB20 and it cost $120. -
As above, start at the inlet mainifold gasket and work your way back. I had a similar prob and it was a blown inlet manifold gasket.

Fastway couriers are about $20 door to door as well for items 20-25kg. Cheaper if the weight is lower. Catch is you have to purchase there stickers first as its a pre paid system and they come in books of about 30. Just buy four stickers off a company who uses them.

In relation to visibility, I had to get a taxi the other day and noticed a few things. He had his push button job detail thingy mounted in centre on top of dash. Approx. 200mm wide. He also had his id card mounted to the top of dash and also a holder for business cards mounted on top of dash. Wonder how many times he has been pulled over for obstructing his visibility?

Currently on the R31 forums there is a R31 for sale with RB20 (R32) with Modified GTR exhaust manifolds and turbos. Modifications: Twin turbo (gtr turbos and exhaust manifolds) Microtech LT8 with handset Double dump pipes of each turbo Large FMIC (gtr size) 2 bov plumbed back 3in high flow exhaust (new cat.) chrome magnaflow exhaust tip High quality water and oil lines for turbos 700hp rated in tank fuel pump Malpassi fuel reg "Makes full boost round 4-5000rpms running bout 10 psi."
-
A friend has a ballistic s/charged rodeo ute and has upgraded to some magic cats ( twin exhaust). They are not fitted yet but the workshop is going to do a before and after with the old high flows first and then whack on the magic cats to see if they are all they are cracked up to be. I will post results when its done.

Reedy Is that IT 50 or 58? its hard to read in the pic. Also croat mentioned the dyno cell was 45 degrees but no fan was used. Isnt that like crazy? I would shoot any tuner dead on the spot that did that to my car.
-
I had the exact same problem and it was the turbo seal. I guess you could remove the pipe from the turbo and see if there is oil build up before the breather pipe plumbs in to verify if its turbo or not.

Warning about people with intercoolers
FATGTS-R replied to bangahh's topic in General Automotive Discussion
When you think about it nobody would give them a second glance. If I saw a couple guys with the bonnet up on an import with tools I would just think they were fixing something. But they would still have the risk of the owner returning. Where was the car parked and where was your cousin? Is it possible they knew he wasnt going to be coming back for a while? i.e at work? -
Is that the main reason the dual venting ( plumb/atmo ) BOVs were made for? For people with AFMs so they dont mess up stuff with the afm but still get to hear the atmo venting noise? Or is there another benifit? I am also in the market for a new BOV as I have a shitty plastic bosch one and its not coping with my boost levels. I dont have an AFM so thats not an issue but I want a plumb back one and just wondered if there was any advantage in getting a dual port one or not? I dont want to have an old lady scaring "PSSCCHHH"

Another benefit of manual: Halfway between woop woop and nowhere at 3.am and the starter motor shits itself. Manual driver pushes a few metres, pops clutch and keeps on driving. Auto driver has no signal on mobile to call tow truck and gets eaten alive by wild cops waiting for the sun to rise.
-
I think he thought you had listed them in order of power, with the highest at the top and working down. I assumed that as well.
-
aKTiVE: How much power were in front of these RB20 boxes that smashed? And more importantly how were they being treated when they broke, be honest now. I dont have a lot of power, just over 200rwkw which is fine for me and I have had no dramas with the box at all. It has 275 tyres and a decent twin plate but in saying that I dont give it an awfully hard time. I dont slam it into gear and I never flat shift. Also note R31NISMOID from these forums has a 250rwkw plus RB25 in front of an RB20 box and last I heard its still intact. And it gets a decent workout as well.

What are symptoms of coil pack failure?
FATGTS-R replied to LANFOH's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Does it seem to happen more often after the car has been driven for a while? I am assuming a clutch problem. Col-GTSX said you would feel it from takeoff but not really if its only just starting to show problems. Its happening in the higher gears as thats when its under a big load. Next time it happens, pull over and pull up the handbrake tight and put it into 5th gear. Then try to take off in fifth with the handbrake on. If it DOESNT stall then you need a new clutch. ( or adjust the one you have if it can be and if there is any meat left ) -
Can I ask what RB20 is in there? RB20ET or DET NICS. RB20DET ECCS red top or an RB20 DET silver top? As if you have one of the very early RB20s it might be more feasible to upgrade the engine instead of slapping a/m ecu on one of the old ones. As depending how long you have had the car for, if its an older one you will have experienced the major headaches involved in finding parts. As an example I have the ECCS red top and waited 3 weeks for something as simple as an inlet manifold gasket. In regards to ecu I run an Autronic SMC and have had no dramas at all.

Thermo fans on intercoolers
FATGTS-R replied to JCMarshall_Law's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Interestingly, Nissan actually implemented this idea on the R31 GTS-R. I would assume it was to force air through the cooler onto the radiator as the GTS-R has a large front mount covering the radiator. It is an approx. 10 inch fan mounted on the front drivers side of the cooler. -
Kermit Have you had the car looked at for chassis damage? You say you are sure the front was involved in a prang as it has a new bar, cooler and radiator. You then say the rear has custom body work. Have you ever thought the custom body work was performed as the rear has been in a bingle as well? If not at the same time as the front in a major accident? I sincerely hope it hasnt and hope you did get a great deal but it would be wise to get it checked out nonetheless.

I beleive you are right renegade. Peter does not work at PET anymore. From what I understand he is sub contracing for other workshops doing installs and tuning. But I am sure they can get people in contact with him. My car was actually at Dynomotive in Bayswater but they sub contracted him to fit and tune mine.
