  1. So slack i am, but yes going well... Pics a few weeks ago for Zoom so that was nice And yes, shaft is from driveshaftshop.com, zero issues and no idea on weight but incredibly light compared to a regular heavy duty 3" job. Few mins on a mates dyno the other week, no timing and way too little boost for a 70mm turbo but atleast its just not a garage ornament now Driving to Warwick this weekend for the 2015 Nissan Datsun Nationals
  2. So took a punt i'd be able to sort out a better solution on the very visible oil catch can filter.... defect central. Result: Filter sits nicely down inside the front bumper, where the OEM intercooler once was. Also boost controller has been remounted on the fuse box lid: And just because, this is pretty much it... wont be any more engine bay changes from here on. Next, dyno
  3. Running great with the LS1 coils, i can absolutely tell the difference between LS and stock coils So another job finally ticked off – oil catch can. $400 in bits so I’m not surprised I left it until later in the build…. LOL not really, I just had no idea where to put it. Ended up settling on an off the shelf 2L baffled catch can and had a friend modify it slightly for my purpose. Tucks in nicely in about the last mostly unused space in the engine bay…. 2 x -10 inlets & stainless mesh filter. Previously occupier of said spot: Installed: Just need to rehome the boost control solenoid, drop in some new sparkplugs and its dyno time
  4. haha thanks for the offer. Should be OK though, 10secrx7 on performanceforums has made 1250rwhp on stock ls1 coils (and another bloke 906rwhp on 155,000km old coils) so should be right for a bit lol.
  5. Tass: yep good old tried and proven El cheapo ls1 coils, think the set of 6 set me back ~$130 so a nice cheap upgrade. Truck coils are the plan later down the track if all goes pear shaped. Scotty: not sure mate, have two friends that have run into issues over 400rwhp on stock vq30 coils so swapping them out now makes sense. LS coils pack a fair bit more punch so hopefully it'll work nicely. I've already finished the install now and feels much cleaner off idle and light cruise... big spark ftw
  6. And if anyone is interested this has been my distraction over the past few months. 1UZFE 4.0L V8 (from Toyota Celsior) 5-speed conversion - W5x gearbox from (from Toyota GX100 Chaser) R31 Diff conversion R31 front brakes / R31 rear brakes R31 front struts (converted to coilover) S13 rear coilovers R31 Wagon fuel tank conversion Apexi SAFCII AEM WB02 Physical build took 11 days over xmas/new year 13/14.... Have spent the past few months on-road sorting and refinement... pretty nice package now.
  7. Thought i'd dust this thing off, still hasn’t seen the dyno so its time to change that… (chucked together a V8 (1UZFE) Datsun Bluebird over the past few months which has proven to be a major distraction to this project) So an update. So have been planning a LS1 coil conversion for a while (because the stock coils are rubbish), finally bit the bullet and started this week…. Have been putting off the conversion for a while as I couldn’t really work out where the coils were going to go, I have bugger all room anywhere. After a bit of buggering around the passenger side ended up being quite easy, mounting to the valve covers I was able to use a lot of the stock coil-on-plug bolt holes (studded with spacers) which gives good spacings and a neat look with the LS coils…. As a plus I was able to use a set of off the shelf LS factory leads which are cheap and gives me a few spares… The spark plug end fits perfectly into the spark plug hole. And because everyone loves pics Workbench All bolted down and connected And all installed, just looks like stock. Drivers side, not so easy… had to fabricate a bracket to hold the coils in place…. Still a work in progress. Hopefully have it all running again by the weekend.
  8. Sorry mate haven't heard from you in 4 days so have bought elsewhere. Good luck with sale.
  9. Also I have UPDATES! Shift light mounted. Hidden away in one of the A/C dash vents. Super bright Cree LED so no issues with stealth install - it'll light up the windscreen at night its so bright. And after a bit of frigging around with the maps i took it for a ~1.5 hour road test this afternoon - laptop on the passenger seat and started to tune. Idle sorted, tad high (1000rpm) but its consistent with decent AFR's And a short video of in car. Few things to fix up, no tacho (wiring/software config - not high on priority list) and idle stepper motor hasn't been touched yet. More tuning this week
  10. Cheers guys. Cheers mate, and yeah another one of those projects For old times sakes, trip down ET Pulsar 'memory lane': E17 Stroker - Methanol injection and N20 GTiR RNN14 SR20DET with GT3040 turbo Hopefully this one wont try and kill me every time i put my foot down LOL. Actually had considered an adaptronic (EMS will also run a VQ30 out of the box as well) but i had a mate that had mixed results with an Adaptronic on a VQ30 so thought id just go straight to a Haltech - bit more pain but hopefully that's all behind me now .
  11. No home or sync, wastespark and semi sequential (tight arse 1000 ) Ive also wired this bad boy up with the flex fuel sensor, this function alone sold me over the PS500 (well onboard data logging helped as well ) Matt sorted out my issue straight up - incedently Ive done the shitbox rally for a few years with a few of the Haltech guys, nice blokes.
  12. Actually no reason at all, i just checked ECU manager and i didn't realise that aspect was programmable. I actually bought the box to run with the stock ecu so i'll pull it out of the mix - cheers for the heads up. (have exchanged a few emails with Matt on other items, cant be happier with the service from the Haltech guys) And i have more updates..... (after lots of late nights) its running. Few little jobs to be sorted including the Idle solenoid - 50/50 chance of wiring it the wrong way, it was the other way I'll also need to check trigger wheel offset (synchronise the ECU) and drop in a new battery, last 6 months sitting around hasn't been kind. Other than that it all seems to be working as it should -running on all 6 with the worlds shittiest fouled plugs.... Happy Days
  13. This is the crux of it, big fan of Nistune but I was probably asking way too much of it in the timeframe I had (or wanted) to get it sorted. Matt from NT had been extremely helpful but in the end I decided to move to a full stand alone system. As I’m keen to run this on both E85 and PULP Haltech with its new flex fuel sensor makes a lot of sense. So anyway time for an update, i’ve been incredibly lazy (well not really, new kid, shitbox rally (Brisbane, Adelaide, Ayres Rock – Perth) and my other project car (1UZ 5-speed bluebird)). But as for this POS unfortunately Haltech ECU's wont work out of the box on a VQ30DET - easiest way to to resolve this issue is a custom 36-1 trigger wheel. So i had one machined up. Which ended up as this (interference fit on crank pulley). Then attached with M5 bolts, tooth removed and painted. And finally installed with raised sensor platforms. ECU installation – Early progress… going for a stealth installation. And as of this week ECU has been powered up & upgraded to lastest Haltech firmware. Wired and tested: - Air temp sensor - Coolant temp sensor - TPS - Ethanol sensor (tested with some old EFLEX, 68% - magic little box) - Crank trigger - Fan switching - Clutch switch - Fuel pump relays - Boost control - Shift light - WB O2 sensor Wired but untested: - IAC (4-wire idle stepper motor) - Ignition coils (12v power source OK) - Injectors (12v power source OK) - External MAP sensor - Digital tacho synchroniser (6 cyl ECU outout – conversion box - 4 cyl dash tacho) - High/low boost switch Skid time is fast approaching
  14. RIP Nistune, you will not be forgotten
  15. Cheers guys! Not sure if i'll get a strut brace on it, its all pretty tight up high in the engine bay. So after a couple of hundered KM's this is the finished engine bay with all systems now hooked up. And this is how i sorted out the boost controller. Hopefully tune/skids from here on.
  16. Thought i'd get on the VQ bandwagon before bandwagon rolled out So Simpletool and I got this out onto the street this afternoon, ended up doing about 200km's of road tuning (in 30deg heat so about as hot as it'll ever see ) No leaks, no bangs, no rattles & still handles well (feels like no weight has been added at all) - everything worked as it should. Tune wise most cruise is now sorted - idle will need a fair bit of work but we seem to be making positive progress (so many idle parameters in Nistune, once its sorted it will be perfect). Initially we weren't going to tune for boost but ended up seeing 14psi - think its going to go OK
  17. Cheers mate I separated and labelled the VQ30 engine loom from the Y33 Cima front cut and took it to a local bloke up here to have it merged into the S15 body/engine loom. If it wasn't for the ABS component I probably would have sorted it out myself, but old bud did a great job - direct plug in job straight to the S15 'F4' Body loom plug.
  18. Hopefully it'll be strong enough, i'm only chasing 400rwhp:) A mate has gone 10.7 @ 129 on a $300 motor, 22psi through a GT35 and 50hp N20, all stock unopened. VQ's go alrite!!
  19. No not tuned as yet, other than my amateur hour hack at the laptop LOL. simpletool from here is going to have a crack at it in the next week or so, we are going to try and get a nice road tune (no boost) sorted before it gets sent to the tuner in the new year (PITS on the Gold Coast). Will be interesting with 1000cc injectors, Ford racing lightning supercharged v8 MAF and 265 deg cams on Nistune.... see how we go i guess LOL.
  20. Yep, another boring Qld build LOL. Turbo is a Brazilian Masterpower T70 (70mm compressor,' P' trim rear) - going to see how it tunes up and then decide if its hanging around long term.
  21. Cheers mate. So much fabrication work around the bay, have tried to make it as hard to spot as possible. ie, this is how the plenum had to be modified: And plenum ‘mid’ manifold was cut, milled flat and welded, needed around an inch out of it to allow the bonnet to close (no ugly bonnet bulges here). Whole build has been centered around shit looking as OEM as possible
  22. Thread posted http://www.skylinesa...5-200sx-spec-r/
  23. And where i'm up to currently, i've just installed a header tank. Top of the motor sits above the top of radiator so hoping to prevent cracked heads i fitted up a small header tank (which sits around 3 inches higher than the radiator). Now holds a perfect 88C
