Show Me Your Racing Machines
Thunderbolt replied to screamin''s topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
I have watched your car many a times, not realising that you were a member on here. Sounds pretty mean, and gets up the hills well. -
Well one of closest thing we have to Super GT cars here is the Sports Sedans. On some circuits some of the cars lap can lap quicker than the V8s, and on other cars the V8s still hold the record for sedan lap times. There is only a couple of seconds tops in it though. I suspect you would probably find a similar story if the Jap cars raced a V8 supercar. Otherwise all you can do really is guess.

Why Have The Rear Lower Than The Front?
Thunderbolt replied to SS8_Gohan's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
If you measure a stock car, you will probably find that the measurements are less on the back than they are on the front. When you lower a car, it is usually best to lower the car an equal amount front and rear. That is why you have probably observed this. -
Ghetto Mods!

Is it injecting straight fuel, or water / methonal? -
Just for the record, the initial letter and form come via ordinary mail. The company that I used to work for prints and mails them out.

Did you enter any competitions?

Help With 32 Gtr Broke Down Today
Thunderbolt replied to Mark0's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Just for the record. My car did that once when I was at the track (at idle in the pit lane) and tried to stall. The only that I can think of that could have affected it, is topping up the tank with V-power racing after using Mobil / Caltex 98 octane fuel forever. It was strictly a one-off thing in my case and did not do it any other times that day or in the future. -
Bit of a tough call either way in that case. If they recovered the car before starting the race, then the cars would have to do another warm-up lap and line up on the grid again. This all takes time and would have delayed the start by a number of minutes. Neither the spectators nor the drivers want this delay. Having them start and then circulating under the safety car is a prefferable option as the agro has died down a little and drivers are getting more into the rythm of things.

The Plastic On The Underside Of Your Engine.
Thunderbolt replied to Douse's topic in General Automotive Discussion
There was a decent article on Autospeed regarding undertrays on cars. See here: http://autospeed.com/A_2160/cms/article.html If you can't be bothered reading, then it basically says that having no undertray is detrimental to radiator and intercooler performance (on the test car anyhow). However a nice custom undertray that has been tested, can make and even better outcome than the factory one. -
Wheel Shaking And Tram Lining
Thunderbolt replied to sl33py's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I hope the above fixes the problems. Just got a couple of questions though. The wheels aren't buckled / damaged in any way are they? Are you running spacers? -

Idle: Anywhere up to about 8 or so on mine (SR20det redtop). Startup: Have seen an initial spike of up to around 50 before it settles. Cruising and giving it a little bit of load: Usually no higher than 30.

Well it seems that you are wise beyond your years, so as long as you communicate your intentions to your father as well as you have on here then there is no reason for him to even worry about what may or may not happen.

I got one of these: http://www.bigboyztoyz.net.au/cgi-bin/osco...roducts_id=1211 They are light enough (and sh*t load lighter than my old full-face shoei), cheap, and meet the necessary requirements. Bear in mind that there are similar helmets in bike shops that are even cheaper still.

I mostly agree. Those first couple of lines are unlikely to change a persons opinion though. The best way to show that you are trustworthy is to extend trust to him. Do this by giving him a test-drive of the car you are interested in and get his opinion. Stick to what he says even if it is not favourable, because arguing will never win anybody over. You can try a different tact next time if you don't win him over the first time around. The more he sees that you trust him, the more likely he is to trust you.

No I didn't make it last year.

Diff Had It?
Thunderbolt replied to Spook's_Skyline's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
What kind of cornering? Tight cornering? Light cornering? If it's tight cornering only then there is the possibility that you are lifting a rear wheel. This being the case, I would have a look at your suspension first and foremost. -
I used Mobi Diffs at 11 Aranda St Slacks Creek. Number is 3808 4576. Can't remember the exact price, but was fairly competitive. Also they have tubs of Penrite Limslip 85/140, so you know you are getting a reliable oil if you forget to specify otherwise.

^^^ Should have just walked you lazy bastard.

The ideal fitment would be on a 7.5" - 9.0" wide rim.

To Shim Or Not To Shit
Thunderbolt replied to DjeMz's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Thing with lockers is that it effectively isn't a diff at all. The inside rear wheel will always rotate at the same speed as the outside. To the in-experienced, it will understeer a lot and you need to use aggression at all times to get it to turn a corner. This is why it can be dangerous. Once you are used to it, I am sure that you will be fine. -
How Did I Achieve 252rwkw At Just 8psi?
Thunderbolt replied to DRFT 14's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I'd say around 115mph-120mph. -
I think it is easier to forget the numbers all together and look at the bar. If the bar is large and not moving around, then it is more likely to be knock than if it is spiking etc. Also don't forget the old fashioned way of measuring knock and that is to listen for it.
