Sacrificing Sidewall Flex For Grip?
Thunderbolt replied to White GTS-T's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Well I thought I would give some feedback after running 225/50/16 on the rear of the car on the track today. I didn't notice any flex at all, however the tyres didn't grip as nicely as I would have liked. It was probably made more noticeable because I was running semi-slicks at the front. -
Show Me Your Racing Machines

Some photos of my car. Is registered but not driven on the road much. Interested mainly in timed events (sprints, hillclimbs etc.). -
Colds are a lot more common than the flu, so I would not worry too much.

Pathetic Drift Commentators!
Thunderbolt replied to Dean_HR31's topic in General Automotive Discussion
You obviously did not understand me if you think that I am offended at all. You can choose to focus on the bad things in life, or you always try to see the good in things. Now which one will bring you most happiness? -
Drivers Doing Under The Speed Limit
Thunderbolt replied to 95SKY's topic in General Automotive Discussion
It is frustrating sometimes, but there isn't anything anyone can do about it. People have their reasons for going slow, and unless you understand why, then it is pretty pointless getting upset about it. -
Pathetic Drift Commentators!

Don't like them? Then don't listen. I highly doubt that the so called "bad commentary" in that clip affects your life, or anyone else's on here, so get over it. -
Realistic 5000km Service Price + Other Things
Thunderbolt replied to Nismo_Boy's topic in Queensland
Yes etax is the computer program that the ato put out. You can get an estimate of the tax refund at any stage, so it is easy to go back and "correct" anything that needs correcting. It is only final when you submit it to the ato. -

I'm sure that many places will provide you with a quote if you ring up and ask. Chapmans = probably more pricey than elsewhere. -
R32 Gts-4 - Really Loose In The Backend
Thunderbolt replied to aah00n's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The wheel aligner should have been able to tell you what was bent if anything. Castor is where the wheel sits in relation to the top of suspension. Postive castor (which almost all cars have) would have the front wheels sitting in front of this point. -

Getting A Car Checked Out Before Buying/geniune Ks?
Thunderbolt replied to anomaly's topic in Queensland
Couple of things you should do is a compression and leakdown test on the motor. This will tell you what sort of condition the engine is in. Any decent mechanic can do this. While you are there get them to check steering and suspension components. The body can be checked for any bubbles in the paint which could indicate rust, use small magnets to see if there are any rust repairs that have been done. Look for paint on panels that may not match the rest of the car perfectly, which is an indicator that there may have been some sort of repair done. ps. I wouldn't worry about the kays, as cars are not always driven as far in Japan as they are in Australia. -
Minus $426 In My Bank Account And Getting Worse!
Thunderbolt replied to zertek's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Well you are on the way to recovering, as you have admitted to yourself that there is a problem. When you do this, it sends a message to the subconcious mind, and the subconcious will start working on the issue until you have it solved. What this means in simply terms is that you may get some ideas suddenly appearing in your head. Don't ignore these messages as they will be there to help you. The first thing I would do is to bring your account back into the positve. Overdrawn fees are to be avoided at all costs, as they can get ridiculously large for a small amount of money. Do you have anything that you could sell that would be worth more than what is owing? Once this is out of the way, then you can deal with the rest later. -
Sacrificing Sidewall Flex For Grip?
Thunderbolt replied to White GTS-T's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I've had some weird and wacky combinations in the past on my car. For a long time I was running 215/60/15 on the stock SR rims (5.5"). The tyres looked very bulgy, but did quite a few mountain drives / skid pan sessions and never had a big problem with flex plus the grip was amazing. I am now running 225/50/16 on R32 rims on the arse end, and it does not look nearly as bulgy as the above combination was. I am going to give it a go at the track next weekend as two of my semi-slicks have had it and the other two tyres that I have aren't nearly grippy enough. ps. If you go to this site: http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp and type in the two tyres sizes you are comparing, you will see that the 225/50/16 combination is recommended for rims that are 6-8.5" wide. -
It's not so much the torque the XE produces but where it is delivering it. To have 178 @ wheels in Skyline and a lowish torque figure, means that it is producing maximum power higher in the rev range. If the XE was producing the 850NM at the same rpm then power would be a lot greater, so this tells you that is producing it's power lower in the rev range. When you are cruising around the street you would find that it is in the sweet spot in the rev range, hense the reason why you don't need to change gears.
-
Well KW is directly related to torque anyway. Here is the formula if you are interested: kW= torque x rpm / 9549

Current Cars: Nissan 180SX ('92 model), Nissan Pulsar N15 Sedan. Next Car: Well the 180sx is a long term keeper, so the Pulsar will go first. I think maybe a crewcab ute would be good. I need something that can carry four adults in relative comfort. Would be good to have a tow-car too, and something to carry spares around, so the ute would be ideal for me.

Is Champ Car Broadcast On Free To Air In Aust?
Thunderbolt replied to Smurf's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Yes it is true, Channel 7 will start broadcasting the series from Monday night. Been waiting a long time for this and I think it deserves a celebration. -
What we know is that the dipstick was taken out at some stage and replaced with a bolt. This is likely to be before the rebuild took place and the reason why the rebuild was done. The person that did the rebuild probably forgot to give the mechanic the dipstick and when they got it back did not put the dipstick back in. We know that after the build was done a compression test was taken out which turned out fine. If oil changes are performed regularly and the motor is fresh then the chances of the oil level dropping between services is minimal. I think you have a perfectly good engine, however you just need to get the bolt out and a dipstick back in.

I've never heard of the centre of wheel to guard distance as being a factor in defecting a car. Usually it is that the lowest point of the car must be at least 100mm from the ground. I'd be checking the regulations for this if I were you. The tyre placard should have been supplied when the car was complied, and if it wasn't then the compliance company could be in trouble. Also what tune up sticker are you referring to? Surely not the one that states when you need to change your oil right?

As far as I am aware they should have sent a pass book. You better ring them and get them to send you one.

High Performance Tyre Survey
Thunderbolt replied to Bullet32's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
One thing the website could do with is a list of suppliers (not distributors). If I want to buy a tyre from you, then I don't want to keep ringing around until I find someone that will be able to supply them for me. My time is valuable, so I want to get on the phone to the shops that I know will supply the tyre that I am looking for. ps. I have always had a love/hate relationship for the Bridgestone Potenza GIIIs. They are fairly cheap, and provide mountains of grip. I have had trouble losing traction with them on (even with 180rwkw), which is why it's a negative too as sometimes it is nice to spin the wheels (not on the street of course ) and if you get it sideways then you can find that they suddenly grip at an unexpected time. Am yet to run them on the track, but as a pair of my semi-slicks are worn out I will probably have to use them at the track in future. -
IRL. I have never seen her race. Well financially it would probably make sense, however that would mean that if you don't like ovals (like me) then you would be bored for half the year. As it stands, champ car has the perfect setup, only racing on ovals a couple of times a year. It would be sad to lose the only open wheel turbocharged formula in the world too.
