My understanding on how a BOV works, is that the pressure helps holds the BOV shut. Hense, when there is no pressure working on the BOV at all, it is like you are introducing a big leak.

Get a ute. Can be quite a benefit for hauling those large car parts around.
-
The other option is to get a larger spring for the turbotech, which will hold high boost better.
-
It is quite possible that it could be your alarm. Otherwise check your ECU connection. If the plug is not in firm, it could be causing the ECU to cut out.

I'd pay $3 to avoid traffic congestion. Would cost more in fuel from the extra idling time, stop start traffic ,and lights

Does This Ford Falcon Xr6 Sound Like A Skyline?
Thunderbolt replied to GTS_300_Coupe's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Sounds kinda like a local R31 Skyline, but none of the imports. -
Is This Normal For An Lsd?
Thunderbolt replied to Eug's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I can confirm that diffs do work the same in reverse. Got into a situation in my Pulsar where I had to reverse off some wet grass / mud. One tyre kept spinning and the other dragged me out. I know you can't really compare it to rwd, but the basic concept is the same. -
Stock Bov, But Still Hearing Turbo Flutter
Thunderbolt replied to Trav33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I wouldn't worry too much. Flutter won't harm your turbo. It's just the sound of air being chopped up. If you watch the air filter when it does this, you will probably see it vibrate a little. Takes a lot more effort to destroy turbo blades etc. -
Making Exhaust Quieter Without Comprimising Flow.
Thunderbolt replied to NYTSKY's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
ECV (exhaust control valve) should do the job for you. If you don't know what these are check out the following link: http://www.importscene.com.au/prod466.htm -
This isn't an attack on you or these other places. I suspect they are refusing for other reasons, such as wanting you to buy something from them, or maybe they are just too busy. Any decent workshop will never refuse a labour job. I have fitted many parts that I have sourced from the internet, and not once has a workshop refused to fit anything for me. Suspension is like anything else, you will get good and bad, but you can't say that it is bad just because it dosen't have a long serving brand name. The only failure I have heard about amongst the well known alternative brands are with "D2" coilovers. ps. I am not sure if you are refferring to the coilovers that I specified in my post, because the HSDs for example come from Korea not China. Both sets that I specified also come with a 12 month warranty including track work.
-
You can get a few cheapy sets of coilovers that still do a good job. Both the following sets are used by professional drifters, and can be ordered online: http://www.otomoto.com.au/HDSystems/index.htm http://www.isc-coilovers.com/Products/ I have a set of HSDs in my 180sx, and while the springs are stiff, the ride is surprisingly good.

My understanding behind shootout mode dynos, was to apply a correction so that most dynos could be compared. Now there is nothing wrong with the figures, as the correct mode was used and the air temps look right. I am puting my money on either it running too lean, or you have a non-stock turbo in it (hi-flow / aftermarket).

Flat Spotted Tyres
Thunderbolt replied to gt-t_r34's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Depends on how deep the flat spot is, but if it is only minor as you say, then all you need to do is wear the tyres down enough until the flat spot is no longer there. If you put them on the rear, it should be less noticable and you have the option of wearing them down in one drive if you like. Try and avoid hard braking in the meantime, because you are more likely to wear a larger flat spot in the same area if you lockup again. -
RBR33 is available.

Proven Rear Cannons That Actually Work
Thunderbolt replied to gtst25's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
My understanding is that Jasma is a quality control / EPA organisation. Basically if you have Jasma on a muffler, it means that it complies with a certain standard. -
Proven Rear Cannons That Actually Work
Thunderbolt replied to gtst25's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
this is what works on my SR20: http://www.flyn.com.au/pictures%20that%20m...20flame%20e.JPG If you use the silencer then it is droney, but without (who uses silencers anyway) there is very little drone. However it is loud, although not unpleasantly so. -
1) This seems to be mainly a Gold Coast phenomomin (spelling?). You hear very little about imports being stolen in the other areas. So if you live / work / park in the Gold Coast area then you should be particularly careful. 2) A lot of the cars that were stolen recently, have been located. If police weren't doing their job, then you wouldn't see this happening. It is a bit of a hard ask for the police to prevent these crimes from happening other than finding those responsible for it, unless they get information about where / when a crime is going to take place.

Nice find. Sounds tempting to buy some shares. Hmmmm..................

Nice car, but hate those guards. All good engines have a 86x86mm bore x stroke.

Signs Of A Worn Stock Diff?
Thunderbolt replied to Thunderbolt's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I can definitely smoke two, and it has always been awesome on the hill drives (Have been able to use right foot to turn into corner). This is the main reason why I havn't swapped centres yet. As for circles, I can't say I have actually tried for a while. ps. I should also mention that I have coilovers and solid alloy pineapples in it. The pineapples where the reason why I thought peddars might have suspected diff noise. *Should also mention that the diff tends to whine a little bit, particularly under trailing throttle, but I have stripped out the rear of the car so any noise from the back is amplified. -
Okay, so I have a 180sx but the same principles should apply. For a while, I have had a problem that is on and off. Felt like some sort of vibration through the car when turning (mainly to right and at low speeds). When it was bad, you could hear a visable clunky noise, but at times you could also notice in a straight line too at lower speeds. I thought it was possibly wheel bearings that were causing to noise, as it has only happened since I had the five stud conversion. Took it to Peddars for a safety check and it was their opinion that the diff was making the noise I may have been hearing. However they also said that the wheel bearings were "loose". Took it to another suspension place for a second opionion, and they said that the right wheel bearing had a little more freeplay, but it wasn't anything to be concerned with and shouldn't be causing the problems and they couldn't find anything that was loose which could have caused the issue (due to not being able to replicate the vibration / noise). So what I need to know, is if a stock diff (car was stock when I bought it) could cause a vibration through the car, that could lead me to believe that it could be something else causing the problem (if that makes sense)? I have a Kaaz centre ready to go in, but money is fairly tight so can't justify spending the money to install if it is not going to fix the problem.

Car Starting Then Striaght Away Cutting Out

Okay my bad. Got open-loop / closed-loop operation confused for a moment there. Lucky you are on the ball to set the record straight. -
Car Starting Then Striaght Away Cutting Out
Thunderbolt replied to Michael_1882's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I actually had a similar problem with my previous car (rb20 Silvia). However I was able to keep it running after about 6-8 trys. Never discovered what the problem was though, so cannot help you there. I'd definately be checking the O2 sensor though, as this helps control cold start. -
Word. Some people just hold onto the past like it was only yesterday. You know what is funny, Southport / Surfers paradise have the highest rate of automobile break ins and theft in Qld, yet you rarely hear anybody say anything bad about those suburbs.

Honda And Toyota Lovers Check In
Thunderbolt replied to MADGT4's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Sorry if I don't find it amusing. I guess I have a different sense of humour from the rest of you. It's like putting an R and 26 bees in a skyline engine bay and calling it an RB26. I'm over it anyhow. This topic can go back to the original subject now.
