1. As the ads say, Speed kills. That must mean that you are safe when going within the speed limit, regardless of conditions.
2. I geddit. Still pretty pointless though.
3. Well I think that it is great to see all the old cars out and about on the hills. They may not be as quick as the modern cars, but they have a lot more character. Hearing cars with big carbies with large cams is just spine chilling. I say let it be, although it would be good to open up the hillclimb for other events. I particularly discourage more than an enthusiastic drive up there while the road is open though. Have you ever sat somewhere quiet, and then heard a car with a revving and tyres squeeling? For some people that can be downright scary, because you don't know who is driving or what their capability is, or even if they are pissed or on drugs. You pray to god that it will end okay, but crashes happen and you think that you might be about to hear one. If you have ever been witness to serious crash, you can live with those scars for life so you can imagine how people feel when they hear a car racing that shouldn't be doing it there at that time.
4. 1) You still need weight transfer. If there is no movement in the suspension, then all tyres will be loaded evenly. Therefore when you go to turn, there won't be enough grip on the outside tyres and the car will therefore want to go straight ahead. When you put load onto the outside tyres, they press down onto the road, and will grip better to help you to go around the turn. However there is no point for a racecar to go too soft in suspension either, because then the inside tyres will be too unloaded and having only two tyres doing the gripping isn't good. 2,3,4) The other questions have been answered suffiently IMO.
5. Why have you got a photo of bees (ie buzz box) then?
6. Hmmm I hater hey. Well here is some punishment for you:
7. Not as much as you would think. Most of the engine is still sitting behind the front suspension, so it would be better than say puting an RB into an S13 which is fairly common. As for puting a 2JZ in a RX7, that is an absolute sin in my books. Lack of torque can be fixed easily by puting in a 20b.
8. It's not just DBA. All should show turbo R33 as the 28 / 16. Such as these: R33 GTST The non turbo 4wd GTS has the following specs: Front - 24mm Rear - 8mm
9. I would never redrill the wheels mate. Sounds very dodgy, and likely to weaken the wheel substantially. I would either get multi-stud wheels, or 5 stud wheels in the right pattern.
10. VT will get the jump, but if the section is straight enough then the R34 may haul the VT back in again.
11. I acutally did the same. Even got the bucket and soap out, and did a proper job. My clothes were quite damp afterwards though.
12. Not sure about Skylines, but I found with stock wheels on a 180sx about 30psi (in the rear) was the best for grip without sacrificing the handling much.
13. You have a R33 GTS-T. That would mean the stock tyre size is 205/55/16 right? I have plugged in a few details into a calucator that is located here: http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp Stock Tire - 205/55R16 Rim Width Range: 5.5 - 7.5 in Overall Diameter: 24.87 in 631.69 mm Actual Speed: 60 mph 100 km/h Tire 1 - 265/50R17 Rim Width Range: Unrecognized tire size. Overall Diameter: 27.43 in 696.72 mm Speedometer1: 54.3 mph 90.6 km/h Speedometer Difference: 10.30% too slow Tire 2 - 255/40R17 Rim Width Range:8.5 - 10 in Overall Diameter: 25.03 in 635.76 mm Speedometer1: 59.6 mph 99.3 km/h Speedometer Difference: 0.637% too slow
14. Couple of things I have thought about. First is that the steering wheel could be slipping on the spline. Seems very unusual though. The other thing you should check is the steering box, make sure that everything is right there.
15. I have an SR20, but have a custom 3" exhaust with a hot-dog and a small cannon. Sounds pretty angry. A workshop thought that I had cams because of the way it idles. I told them that it was almost impossible because I bought the car stock and had not done any cam work to it.
16. Did someone mention flutter?
17. Stock suspension in the Silvia / 180sx range of cars really isn't that bad, unless it is clapped out. There wasn't many cars that could get away from my 180sx in the hills before I had the suspension modified*. Now with the coilovers (not to mention worse road tyres) it is too rough to cope well with all the bumps, so it slows me down a bit. *Note to anyone interested - This was with Bridgestone Grid IIs (Jap version?) 215/60/15 on stock rims. ps. I never drove at the speeds that have been mentioned.
18. Get rid of those horrible tacky chrome wheels, and I think the G35 would look quite good.
19. I might be there. My olds live about 10 minutes from there, so very conveniant.
20. Just because a car has been track driven, dosen't mean it hasn't been looked after. Just check for the normal issues that you should be checking for anyway. - Compression / Leak down test. - Checkout any unusual suspension / steering noises. - Ensure that gearbox feels nice. - Brakes usually get a hard workout, so ensure that rotors are in good shape. I might have missed something, but that's all I can think of for now.
21. The graph almost looks like it has been tuned that way. If so, then I hope they also backed the ignition timing right off. If this is done, and fairly low boost, it may not be that bad for the car. This is certainly why you are getting so much power, as there are great gains to be made when you run it leaner, however you have to offset the risks of pinging etc.
22. Well I liked it. I watched it in its entirety and I can't say anything bad about it.
23. Only 1 problem with that. I think the laws state that there are no engine modifications allowed.
