  1. you're dead right wrxhoon. I found out today that I broke number 6 piston. It uses HKS 2530 turbos and standard internals but didn't think I'd have a problem because I ran 1.5 bar boost for 3 years on my old WRX with standard internals and no problems. Thanks for the reply!
  2. I just got the devastating news that I've melted number 6 piston in my '97 R33 GTR. I understand that I'm now due for an engine rebuild but I have some questions that are worrying me at the moment.... 1. Is this BIG money? Does anyone have any idea how much an engine rebuild usually costs? 2. Does this take long, I mean are we talking 1 week or 1 month?? 3. Is it a better option (cheaper) to just source another engine from a wrecker or someone? If so any suggestions on where from? Thanks fellas for any help!
  3. Aha! I think you're right. Just thinking about it now, I was running the car quite hard with acceleration and at high speeds and then pulled over for 5 mins and just let the car idle while I was talking to a mate. At this point everything was fine, then jump in car, accelerate hard and find poor power and so on. So probably after giving the car a hard run, then pulling over and without airflow through the engine bay it was overheating while I left it idleing. Does this sound like it could be the case? And further again about a head gasket, is it a difficult job to fix/replace and would it take long for a mechanic to do? Thanks.
  4. No I didn'y think to look at the temp guages unfortunately. It was a progressive event that took about 2 minutes in that firstly everything was fine then I stopped then accelerated very hard and noticed performance was quite poor compared to 5 minutes earlier, I then backed off and noticed that it only made 1.2 bar boost, I then cruised for about 1km and then noticed the engine did not sound right when I accelerated, I did not notice smoke at this point but then it was just pouring out the exhaust. If it's the head gasket, is this a big deal? Does it take long for a mechanic to fix or cost much? Thanks again!
  5. Hi guys, I have a '97 R33 GTR with HKS GT2530 turbos. Earlier tonight I was having some fun driving it when I noticed that it started to feel a little "sluggish". I then noticed that the peak boost it had achieved in my last run was only 1.2 bar instead of the 1.5 bar I was getting earlier. I quickly pulled the car over and smoke was absolutely pouring out the exhaust. It was difficult to see in the dark but it looked like the smoke was white in colour. I lifted the bonnet could hear water or fluid bubbling in the radiator (don't know if that means anything but I haven't noticed that before). I also noticed a couple of strange sounds when I noticed the car was sluggish but I can't remember what they sounded like but only remember hearing something out of the usual. The car still runs but is now is running very badly so I just got it towed. Does this sound like a blown turbo? If so can it be repaired or what's involved getting it fixed. If it doesn't sound like a turbo then any ideas on what has happened. As I'm sure you can tell, I have very limited mechanical knowledge but am very concerned. I hope someone can help. Thanks.

  7. Thanks for your help!!!
  8. Cam gear timing or electronic ignition timing coming off the right hand cam gear. If this is moved, does this alter electroinc timing or cam gear timing?
  9. Thanks for your responses!! I feel much better knowing that this is a common occurrance. The vibe I got from my mechanic when I told him I had to get an inspection was that I would more than likely have trouble with it. Hopefully 11:30am on Thursday I will be the proud owner of a REGISTERED GTR! Thanks again.
  10. Hi, I purchased a reasonably highly modified R33 GTR from Qld (I live in NSW). I received it yesterday after it was shipped down by TNT and then had to go through all the bs to get it registered. My local mechanic did the blue slip no probs, but when I went to the RTA to get it registered they told me that my car had been "flagged" as a high risk for rebirthing etc and I have to now get an RTA inspection on Thursday before they will register it. The lady told me that they would be focusing on engine numbers etc to ensure that the vehicle hasn't been rebirthed but my concern is the modifications. I have asked my mechanic to remove the oil catch can, guages on the a-pillar, hide the turbo timer and ebc etc. but it is very difficult to make the car look standard when you don't have any of the original parts such as the pod filters and big HKS exhaust. Has anyone had one of these inspections before? Do they check through everything? I'm sure I will only be asking for trouble if I don't replace the exhaust and pod filters (and most of the other obvious stuff) but I don't see what choice I have. This is really stressing me because I have gone through a lot of hassles already to get the car and now the last thing I want would be to not be able to register it. Thanks for any help.
  11. well my mate told me they were $33000 + on roads but anyway I got some vids....thanks guys.
  12. No, actually it would prove that a street registered car is capable of beating a $35000 bike or one of the quickest bikes around which is what he does not believe. You could tailor build your own car for $80000 or you could just buy an R32 for $41000 with 850hp which is what I am test driving on Tuesday.
  13. Yeah that would be great MIC33R! He's the sort of guy that reckons the worlds fastest car is a Clubsport. Can you email it to me? My address is [email protected] Thanks.
  14. I know this is probably a long shot but does anyone know of any vids showing a GTR and a Hayabusi dragging. Just want to settle a bit of a dispute with a mate and would love to see it anyway. If not a Hayabusa, then maybe other quick bikes R1 etc and of course with a win to the GTR. Thanks!
  15. Hi fellas, I'm currently looking to buy a heavily modified R33 GTR from a guy in QLD (I'm in NSW). I was talking to a mate of mine and he warned me that getting NSW registration for a modded import can be difficult. He told me of someone he knew having his import registered to a PO box in Victoria because it was just too difficult in NSW. Is there any truth to this? How can I find out what difficulties I may have before I buy the car? Any help really appreciated.
