Rb25/30 Rb30det Vvt Internal Oil Control
Huzqld replied to psi's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Good call, I've ended up with the head that the internal mod was done on (mustn't of been used until I got it). But it didn't work, seems like not enough pressure to engage the vct, so I just got rid of it completely -
If its a DET head it will have 5l8 on it somewhere. If DE head its 5l7. I think..?

Hey guys just wondering where the cheapest place to get the id 1300cc injectors from? Otherwise what power would the 1000cc ev14 Bosch injectors be good for on e85?
-
Yeah I was also worried about the same thing. But couldnt find any hard evidence. Just that it can happen with valve float as others have said. My motor isn't that old but I'm running performance valve springs and 270 9.2mm cams 7k rev limit
-
Cheers mate, How do you think it would go lag wise compared to the 3540? I get full boost somewhere around 4000.
-
What would you guys recommend for. Street drag VL, auto re401a Forged Rb30 NEO head 270 9.2mm cams Plenum etc etc 3k stall Currently running gt35 .82 internal gate 22psi 422hp but out of injectors 98ron I was looking at the 6466

If you can't find a cas just get an exhaust cam with the r33 cas drive? Or get rid of the cas completely and run a crank trigger

Rb30 Hybrid Upgrade, All Dyno Results
Huzqld replied to R31Nismoid's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
RB25/30 NEO Spool rods wiseco pistons Balanced Arp everything N1 pump with billet gears and oil relief setup. and longer crank drive collar ASR 8.5L sump Standard head with 270-9.2mm cams no vct performance valve springs 6x LS2 coils cpc plenum steampipe manifold GT35 .82 rear internal gate 660CC injectors 420hp @22psi injectors at 85% duty cycle Also couldn't get it to hold more boost up top (could of wound the pre-load up but decided against it) BP98 fuel Auto -
Changed a couple things. Cam-tech 270 9.2mm cams Got rid of the CAS completely And used a different tuner, He still uses the exact same model dyno. 420HP @22psi AFR in the 11s Boost falling off up top, we couldn't get it to make anymore. So wastegate is on the cards later on (We could of put some more preload on the actuator but left it there). Also injectors are starting to get up there. 660cc @ 80-something % duty cycle. Happy with the way it runs and also the power at that boost level. Through an Auto

I've only heard of shimless bucket conversions on them. And the buckets are a custom job apparently. Two quotes were around the 2k mark give or take 500
-
What's involved in doing the shim-under conversion on the Neo head?

Neo Cam Noise Plus Car Is Running A Lot Hotter
Huzqld replied to kls83's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Jeez, nearly exactly the same noise What mods to make that power? -
Neo Cam Noise Plus Car Is Running A Lot Hotter
Huzqld replied to kls83's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Interesting, mine did the same thing as you saw and we couldn't find what caused it.. awesome power btw. Chuck up a vid on youtube -
No VCT now, just adjustable cam gears. Hoping for a tune in the next couple weeks. Also went to a full crank trigger setup so I cant have any CAS issues
-
Ended up with some 9.2mm 270's (instead of the 9.5mm). With a nissan spec ramp on the cams. Bit bigger clearances (.017" in- .019" Ex. No more noise, so not really sure what was going in..
-
Whoever originally done the vct setup on this head has done it a completely different way to what I've seen them done. They drilled down through the cam gallery and into the vct feed and grub screwed the top hole. I found the thread somewhere but can't find it now. But it hasn't worked, the vct half kicks in and then the car just idles normally again. (When testing at idle) made no difference to dyno graph either. Plus it's an auto with a 3k stall and will probably go bigger down the track. Didn't check the valve springs honestly (we should have) but they should cope with that lift.. They aren't stock springs and plenty of people have used them on bigger cams then this. They are the 'performance valve springs' springs and ti retainers. Not sure what you mean by weight on nose of cam, but am only running adjustable gears. I've packed the cams up and sent them back to camtech to check out. Put the stock cams back in just to make sure and it's back to being very quiet.
-
Not running vct in mine anymore. Triple checked the clearances and it is as per cam card. Retarded the intake and advanced the exhaust just to see if the noise changed (doing this should effectively give more piston to valve clearance?) No change in noise. Will keep investigating.
-
Have asked camtech. They Aren't really sure what's going on. Obviously more investigating to do. But always Good to see if anyone else has had issues similar Came up with those clearances as that's what it says on the cam card they are cold readings. You are right though the factory cams do run with bigger clearance and that is what I had the stock cams set to and the engine was quiet as.
-
Sounds like a diesel
-
Anyone got some tips as to what is going on here. Cam tech 270- 9.5mm cams no vct Shimmed to .010" intake .012" exhaust +\- .001" Pretty confident of the clearances, have checked twice. Cams don't appear to be hitting anything. Can't see any marks on Pistons (checked with bore scope). Listened with stethoscope and it sounds valve train related... Running performance springs. Stock cams were quiet. Same springs just changed clearance
-
I didn't bother googling them tbh. They cc'd up to 9... So maybe that was a stuff up, not sure. Either way it brings the comp to 8.7:1 if they are -11.3cc so that's fine, not make or break. Cheers Ben, that' something to try What were the symptoms of that apart from not taking timing and making power? *found the thread. Will have a read

Tensioner above water pump as guide says and idler down in stock location. Using BF sensors as my tuner recommended them and uses them for tuning (Bosch sensor). Sent pics of Pistons and head to Lewis engines and he's done a few of these combos recently and thinks it should be fine with those Pistons.
-
Yeah that's right, don't know for sure if that's it yet. Just getting some ideas. Perhaps I could try smooth out the valve reliefs a bit on the Pistons, take off that sharp edge. I've got two sensors on the block (bf falcon sensors) I have bungs that screw in to block and the sensor bolts onto that. And tuner tried his as well
-
I already had the pistons as I bought all the parts off a guy that didn't go ahead with a build. I was going to just run somewhere in the 8:1 range compression but was advised against it, so decked the head to get to 9:1. Did a compression test and got 170-165 PSI across all 6 Cam settings are. Inlet 121deg- Exhaust 113deg
