[Hks Evc6- Not Working!]

hey guys so i went out and bought a HKS EVC6 for my 1995 Skyline GTR from a reputable dealer on the internet. Got it installed professionally and when i went to go and pick it up they told me that there was an error and it wasn't working. On the screen it read " err no 001". they told me they called the local HKS dealer and he said the only explanation would be that the unit itself was defective. So i was just wondering before i send it all the way back to the U.S if anyone else has experienced this problem or if you could help me out on what this might mean or what is wrong.
