  9. Dude, its definately job you can do yourself. I bought my first skyline (95 gtst) a few months ago and i have done everything with the exhaust myself. All my bolts including oxygen sensor werent too bad, some were pretty stiff but you get that. The guys in the post have given you good advice with the wd40, so follow that. Im not the most experienced with cars, and usually stick to just doing oil changes etc. Im lucky that i can always get my old man to help me with my cars, which comes in handy. I would definitely have a go yourself, and if your concerned just try get someone who is handy with the spanners to come round for a few beers! I have found the skyline to be really easy to work with, and if you get stuck this site is an excellent source to get your answers.
  10. I am after a stock r33 gtst cat back exhaust for clearing defects, I am located on the central coast NSW. I have a standard cat already, so dont need that.
  11. Thanks mate.. pretty sure thats what the bloke told my old man to do, i was just hoping i could spend the money on something i could keep on the car. Obviously im just gonna have to take the shit factory one off again.. Oh well, i will just keep it like my other exhaust parts just in case they want to defect me again!
  12. Mine is a 95 and as far as i can tell, on the exterior is the same as other series one models. But my engine is the same as series 2 (I had a lot of confusion when i tried to buy coil packs because of this) I park my car next to a series 2 r33 at work most days, and i will admit the series 2 is definitely the nicer looking of the two. But at the end of the day, the price most people are paying for some of these series 1 models, they probably dont care! I certainly am happy with the looks of mine for $4000!
  13. Need as stock air box set up to pass defects for my series 1.5 gtst. I am located on central coast nsw.
  14. Hey guys, long story short i was being heavy footed in front of mr officer a few months ago, and he pulled me saying my car was too loud. I had a notice arrive in the mail saying to take it into the epa station to get the exhaust decibel tested and the car roadworthied of some description (bullshit) Anyway, last week i had my dad take it to get tested and it failed on a few points. He failed it on a boost controller, pod filter and hi flow cat and cannon muffler. (It was also too loud at 101db instead of 90db) Dad thinks he said something about me having to replace the whole cat back system because it is too large. I dont have a problem putting my standard cat, boost tee and putting a standard airbox on, but i am hoping to just get away with replacing the cannon with a regular muffler. Does anyone know if their is a size that is legal that will pass?? As far as i remember, its an apexi 3" system with a cannon. I only asked because i was trying to get in touch with the mechanic who did the test but couldnt get a hold of him
  15. Yeah the car is a full street car and 95% of the time gets an easy run. I do plan on doing a couple of track days in the future though. I was going to have the ecu remapped at a price of $550 but if my flat spots could be removed through a simple retune i would do that for the moment, then get a remap after i fit a hiflow turbo and fmic.
  16. Thanks for the info guys. Im still pretty undecided at the moment whether to upgrade before the tune or not though.
  17. I need an aftermarket 3 inch front pipe for my r33 gtst. It needs to be a front pipe alone, not a dump/front pipe combo. Cheers
  18. Hey guys, Just have some newb questions about intercoolers for my r33 gtst. The only mods it has so far are turbo back exhaust, and a manual boost controller set at 10psi. I have already got the shitty flat spots in my ecu, so i am taking it to a tuner in to have the ecu remapped. I am wondering whether it is of much benifit to install a front mount intercooler before i get it tuned? (At the moment the car has an r34 smic.) After i get it tuned i plan to leave the mods at that for a while, so i am just trying to work out whether it is worth forking out the extra for the intercooler, or just take it straight for a tune. The tuner told me it is good for 10-15kw increase with fmic, but at the same time i hear of slower throttle reponse using some fmic. If i can get some advice from personal experience, and also some pointer towards decent fmic it will be appreciated. Cheers.
  19. Thanks for the offers guys, but i already have an aftermarket dump fitted, so i need the front pipe only.
  20. Did the plugs today, the flat spots are still there- next stop ecu.
  21. I have spoken to a tuner (toshi in sydney) and he said that it would be the computer detecting somesort of overboost and that when he remaps the ecu it will be solved. Its a bit of a bummer cause i cant afford the tune for a while. I also tried taking off the boost controller and running the stock t piece, but it still makes around 10-11 pound of boost anyway, and the problem is still there. I think toshi is definately my next priority.
  22. Dude i just picked up a 95 gtst with 130k for 4k, Sure its paint isnt great but otherwise its mechanically great. I think you would be stupid not to get a gtst with deals like that going around. I have already done heaps of fiddling and modding which gives you that satisfaction you were talking about, which i completely understand. The gtst is already a really great base man, and if you are decent with spanners you can do heaps of bolt on mods and get the f**kers cracking 300rwkw+ cheap as hell. Seriously reconsider..
  23. Still chasing an aftermarket front pipe- dump to cat 3''
  24. Just taking it for a drive and feeding it on in third, i noticed that the flat spots are spot on 3500-4000 then again at 4500-5000. The rest of the rev range is pulling really hard. I dont know if i mentioned i am using plugs that are pfr511g. I have gapped them to 0.8 but i have noticed that the other guys on here seem to go with the bcpr6es plugs, so i figure thats my next point of call, hopefully not the ecu!!
