  1. I have had many problems over the years getting a decent sleep. All the small things like exercise and no caffeine etc make next to no difference with me, however anything that i have ever been prescribed that does a good job of putting me off leaves me feeling sedated of a morning, which i hate. My main problem with sleeping is that i have something called restless legs syndrome, which essentially make me extremely fidgety and to be honest, very annoyed. I have spoken to the doctors a few times about this, and been recommended and prescribed a couple of different magnesium supplements. The first one was an over the counter supplement called magnesium asparate, and it did absolutely nothing. My doctor has now given me a different ,magnesium supplement which is via prescription called magnesium glycinate, and again its not working at all. I will be going to the doctor again soon to hopefully get something else that works! Another thing, the restless legs runs in my family and my Mum has been taking a drug called reprieve for it. From my understanding its the same class of drug that treats parkinsons disease, and it works very well. I used it for a week or so until i bought it up with my doctor and it showed that it doesnt work well with my other medication. I thought this might be a good place to get some advice, and maybe for others to share their experiences.
  2. x2 mate. I didnt realize before i joined this forum that power figures can be effectively fudged. I was of the opinion 'a dyno is a dyno' if that makes sense. Sadly enough it seems some companies use these fudged figures to quote their products too. I guess it comes down to real world driving experiences.
  3. Yeah man, the way i see it, on your p's you dont have too much choice. Everyone gives the na skylines such a hard time on here, but 140rwkw is definitely no slouch. I had a vt ss 5l on my p's which was legal at the time, and with a manual gearbox, extractors, intake etc it was PLENTY for a p plater! I never dynoed it but i know it was around 140rwkw, so in my opinion, that sort of power is quite decent for a na 6 cylinder. I say 2k to get that level of power from a 6 isnt too bad man, good luck!
  4. Welcome to the forums mate. I think its definitely worth looking at the costs of your modifications and whether its worth it to you. Things like an exhaust and decent panel filter/pod filter are going to make it sound a bit better, but not much else. Having said that, 140rwkw that the skyline in the video produced is very impressive in my opinion for a na. The gtst i bought was dynoed when it was dead stock @ 145rwkw, so its right up there with a stocker gtst. Again, i think it would come down to the price of these modifications in the first place, because gtst models can be had for next to nothing these days and have much more tuning potential. Thats of course unless you are on your p's and cant have one. Anyway, give it some thought, and enjoy your skyline ownership!
  5. Yes they do, you would be surprised at how many times i have seen people pull out without even vaguely looking, well then again you probably wouldnt. Especially the seniors from what ive seen, they seem to think that its fine they cant look over their shoulder anymore to check blind spots, i dont however think its fine. I feel that with further driver education, an awful lot of the 'invincibility' attitude may ( i repeat may) be kicked. I think that when learning the finer details of handling a car we pretty quickly realize that no matter how good we are, a car still cant stop on a 50c piece. Especially like you say, with kids on the street and other idiot drivers. Most people would probably feel sick if they saw the things i did on my red p's (including myself) and i can remember just how many times my parents used to try and drill in my head that it isnt just my ability, but external influences that will bring you undone. I dont think it got through to me until i had a few very close calls and scares. I honestly think that providing those 'wake up calls' in a controlled environment would help significantly.
  6. I have only been in a 1j soarer as well. From what i remember it just had exhaust and intake mods, with a slight boost increase. It was an auto (do they come manual?) and was quite laggy, which im sure was probably the auto/long gear combination. Either way once it got on song it went very nicely. The one i went in was a toyota version, not the lexus, but it was still pretty damn luxurious and spacious inside. The guy that owned it went on to do some more mods and it ran 12s if i remember right. Spewing i didnt get to go in it at that stage.
  7. Never bought a clean degreased car for that exact reason. Unless its on a dealer lot with warranty, all i think of that is that it's hiding something. I much prefer to look at a reasonably dusty vehicle so you know what your in for.
  8. I honestly think they dont make much difference, i mean, dont get me wrong i would like to see the statistics, but i think the lack of p plate deaths has been because of more police presence, and harsher penalties, not the high power car laws. When i was a p plater, everyone was getting killed in 6cylinder falcodores, and from what the paper showed me this morning, not much has changed. All i know is that the way i drove on red p's (and yes my parents would have killed me if they had known the extent of what i did) in my shitty v6 commodore, its a damn miracle im not dead, or didnt kill others. However, on my greens i bought an ss commodore, and treated it with much greater respect, along with other road users. I think(along with everyone else on here) the government needs to look at the driver training, not just etiquette as someone else brilliantly put it. I know that personally, i was very lucky to drive at 9-10 years of age in the bush with dad, and very lucky to have him train me skills in gravel and how to corner properly on my l plates. That is probably the only reason i didnt kill someone. I honestly think with the right driver training, most drivers will realize that they arent such great drivers after all, something that most of us learn after one or two spin-outs, sometimes which is too late. The way i look at it is, would i rather a 17 year old in a 160 odd kw falcodore 6 that cant drive for shit, or a 17 year old in a 220kw odd v8 that knows his limitations and how to handle a car? I mean, i know thats not our choice, but wouldnt it be great if it was.
  9. haha, i can understand the girl car comments. Only because i used to be a commodore v8 fan, and well... i dished it out a fair bit lol. Lets just say, the reason i bout my 33 was it was cheap. Regardless of my 'girly' misconception of them. Then i drove it! That changed my mind drastically.
  10. I couldnt agree more. However dont get me started on the laws 'that protect the public'. I mean, look at the licensing system, in what way does it teach actual skills to drivers? It just pisses me off that we have defensive driver courses, and skid pans etc and the government does nil to teach drivers actual skills. Instead their way of saving lives is to teach 10 second rules etc at kerbs before pulling out.
  11. I wasnt going to say anything, but this is off topic plenty as it is. The way i see it- rb20s and rb25s are both great engines. Especially for the price of the cars they come in. I have no hesitation in saying that for the price of my r33 gtst, i would have easily been happy with an r32 gtst. Both engines benifit from small, low cost mods, and both respond well to those mods. In all seriousness, my r33 was 4 grand, and i will probably spend at least that doing it up to make some more hp. And i know by the way it handles and brakes, that i wont be disappointed with my decision to chase some more hp. Most of these skylines 32,33 gtst, 34 gtt are great in standard form, and for the minimal amount we pay, we can be very happy once we do some mods.
  12. You serious man? Your wishing death on people? Your also talking about this bloke like he is ivan milat or something. f**king hell dude, put it in perspective. I realize its a touchy subject, and some people are putting others in danger, maybe.. but seriously, wishing death on people. Wake the f**k up to yourself.
  13. lol, i get it. Like taking your mrs out to dinner all dressed nice and acting like a gentlemen. But, when you get home you smack the shit outta her.
  14. BTW- i have learned the hard way over the years being on the wrong side of the law, and any racing i will be doing is on a track. I will have much more fun on a track, and be able to do what me and my car are able to, without worrying about the external influence of the public.
  15. I get your point, you are a little smarter with your wording. However isnt the real issue people driving like idiots and endangering the public? In which case anyone on here with half a set of nuts will admit they have done it at some point. And the road he is talking about isnt exactly endangering the public. Again, i dont think street racing is a good idea obviously, i can just see that these people with their mighty upstanding citizen attitudes are full of shit. I feel the same when i look at these videos of the people in sydney with their skylines that got impounded. Sure, they were stupid and deserved their cars taken away, but all the im better than you type comments piss me off.
  16. Seriously just get over it peeps. We all know the point he is making, and while i may not agree with it, im not going to get on my high horse and pretend i have never done it. At least, if nothing else he keeps it to a road that is off the main populations harms way. I also know the area he is referring to. I mean in all seriousness, how many of us have driven like idiots at some point, if you say you havent.. well there is a word for that Im not condoning driving like a f**king street racer, but the sad fact is these 'street racers' exist, so why not worry about them, putting everyone else in danger.
  17. lol. Yeah its pretty funny hey, i suppose they lack of tools is why people get smacked so fast when they ask questions about useless shit like doseing and fitting aftermarket bov's etc. I mean, everyone is entitled to their opinion on the matter, but it is covered so f**king often that its a joke. I bet the silvia forum is really good for these topics! "how do i fit my shiny bov that has unit stickers on it"?
  18. Ohhh come on! I clicked this thread expecting the usual dose talk and idiotic talk about ebay bov's that are heaps better then the standard one. (or betterer in some cases, lol) Now im just disappointed with all the logic and reasonable op response. Damn it!
  19. I see it a fair bit on the Central coast and Newcastle too, red p's SS commodore etc. To be honest though, i really think it doesnt make too much of a difference. I mean the awd turbo's scare me a little with the in experienced drivers because you can give them such a hard time before you 'feel like your going fast'. Its hard to say what i mean over the internet, but i think the speeds you can do in these wrx's/evo's etc without feeling like you are flogging it is a bit different to the regular v8 falcodore or turbo skyline which is heavier and tail happy. The only reason i feel like i can say this is because i was one of these complete idiots on my red p's. I did completely stupid things on a daily basis and risked everyones lives in my car and passing motorists/pedestrians. All while driving a v6 commodore which handled and stopped like shit. When i bought my ss commodore on my green p's (@18) I had a completely different respect for the vehicle and how it handled, hence i drove much more sensibly- all the while having loads more power. Maybe it was just growing up a little more, but i dont think so. I just think having the slug v6 made me feel like i could man handle the thing all over the road. My 2 cents.
  20. Sounds like a challenge. Racing for slips!
  21. Awesome! I can only imagine what that thing would move like with a 13b turbo in it, let alone forced induction v8. That is one talented bloke.
  22. I find it amazing that people can judge his driving through a post. Well done, you must be awesome drivers! If anything, yes i believe you should have been in a lower gear while cornering in the wet. I experienced a 180 degree spin out in my first ss commodore in 5th gear once, cruising through a corner, not driving fast etc. I believe to this day that if i was in 3rd/4th, i would have had more of a chance of holding onto it because i wouldnt of been 'coasting' and would have had some torque from the engine to help it recover. At the end of the day, NOBODY knows what happened but you. Even with the best explanation of the scenario possible, others will not be able to interpret what happened. Thats of course not including the fact its possible that oil could of been on the road, in which case your chances of not spinning on that are virtually nil, regardless of your driving ability. I think that if you are concerned with your driving ability or want to further those abilities, then definitely look at the skid pan events etc. In my opinion thats something everyone should do, let alone those in reasonably or high powered vehicles.
  23. Definitely one of those two options. Im sure an rx impreza would probably get beaten by a r31. Ive also known of plenty of 'mistaken racing' situations like you said, my mate thought his stock vl rb30e auto beat a reasonably modified vl turbo when we were on our p's. He wouldnt listen when everyone tried to tell him otherwise, i mean it was blatantly obvious. At the end of the day, idiots will believe what they want to believe... like a stock r31 that runs 14s or faster.
  24. I agree that an r31 is a good car for p platers. The rb30e is a great engine in standard form.. (great to work on, bullet proof, decent on fuel and decent power for a p plater) I think its a great starting point for a first time driver, where as something that is as fast as a wrx for example is not. Im sorry, but i just cant help myself. Even if the r31 was a freak car, and had lets say 100kw more than all of the other rb30e cars, i still wouldnt like its chances. And obviously that is a ridiculous overstatement, but i think it fits the level of performance gap we are talking.
