Rb22, Going Solid Lifters, Which Cams?
Dave.TAS replied to Dave.TAS's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks dobz, am aware of the factory specs, and rb26 stock cams would be ok and work nicely on a tight budget! Any one else got anything to add? -

They are all BNR34 cams at work tho, not sure if that makes a difference.. -
Rb22, Going Solid Lifters, Which Cams?
Dave.TAS replied to Dave.TAS's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I dunno if the 10.25 drops in no machining required and wont touch pistons etc? I have heaps of Tomei RB26 cams at work, havnt looked at the specs tho. Also have stock 26 ones on the shelf -
Hey guys, Dont want to remove the head on my rb22 to drill out the oil restrictors, as my head is overly restricted for running tomei valve springs, too much seat pressure. Want to leave the head on it so that everything stays 100% perfect in that area. Restrictors are 1.0 front, 1.2 rear. I believe Tomei reccomends 1.5mm front and rear for hydraulic head, and some other aussie companys reccomend 1.3mm front and rear. So mine obviously too restricted, hence the lifter noise. So for $1300 i can go solid lifters and cams from tomei. Then sell my camtechs, recoup some money, and have a better engine for it. So thats how ive convinced myself haha But still struggling to decide what size cams to go, I have tomei valve springs so they will handle anything i throw at it. Options are 260/9.25mm 260/10.25mm 270/9.25mm 270/10.25mm Car is street driven, gets a very hard time and will be used for some fun track days, no real racing. Turbo on it at the moment is, due to budget restraints, RB25 stocko. Will later be changing turbo to most responsive 230-250rwkw. GTR bottom end with N1 oil pump, stock harmonic balancer, Should be able to rev to 8000rpm ok. Has camtech 268/9mm in it at the moment, idle sounds tough as but havnt driven it due to lifter noise so cannot say if power curve has been shifter up and right too much. Leaning toward 260/9mm for better drivability, and its still alot bigger than standard. Happy to listen to good discussion and valid examples etc etc

How big Should i go with the restrictor? I'll need to reuse the headgasket, Its a greddy MLS. Remove rivits, clean and hylomar? So frustrating that i to have to pull it to bits again to fix this.

Would love some input from Trent @ Status

The first set of lifters that where in the motor from 0km were fully disassembled and cleaned prior to installation. Easy enough to say convert to solid lifters. New cams 900 and solid lifters 500, plus labour. Wouldnt get much change out of 2 grand Looking like lifters cant handle bigger cams when oil is restricted, or cams dont work with hydo's regardless of specification. Dont really want to put standard cams back in it and Im really not keen on taking the head off to drill the restrictors out to 2mm Anyone got any better ideas?
-
No but 48 lifters would not be dirty, the ones that i removed i disassembled and found them to be in perfectl;y servicable condition.

Thanks Dobz. Anyone else??

Hey I purchased an RB22 already built by Donny @ Streetforced, and was told it had noisy lifters and they needed to be changed. So i changed the lifters to some known good RB25 ones. I ran the engine for the first time and its all sweet apart from the rattles coming from the head.. Still. It has CAMTECH 268 degree 9mm lift cams, with tomei type a valves springs. Im told it has 1.2mm oil restrictors fitted to the front and rear ports, and an N1 oil pump. As far as i can tell all/most of the lifters are noisy. Before fitting the new (second hand) lifters i had them submerged in oil for a day. This has worked fine for me before with CA18s. Ive had it running for 10 minutes or so, with varying revs but no more than 2000. Oil pressure according to my cheap Racetech electronic gauge is 6 bar on startup, drops to 4 bar when warm, and raises to 6 bar again @ 2000rpm. When i spoke with camtech before christmas they said the cams should be fine with stock lifters as base circle is unchanged, but i cannot confirm this not having measured. Cams where supplied to previous owner by STATUS and told would work with stock lifters. Any advice would be great, wishing i had know it wasnt going to work properly before i put it in the car...

What would be the best hypergear for an RB22, with 268 deg 9mm lift cams, chasing maximum midrange for street use. Engine is built to take 300rwkw, dont care if it doesnt make 250rwkw. Want to retain standard configuration as far as manifold and dump pipes are concerened.
-
Sorry mine have all been 32 and s13. Thanks brad

I changed my pump bracket so the sock is almost touching the bottom of the tank, can't see how it will surge any worse than standard fuel pump.

Reckon the kando sl2 would fit on stock Mani? With notched engine mount. What sort of response could expect, 1 bar at ??
-
Yeah external gate on stock mani is the thought, if the turbo would fit low mount
-
Will any of these kando turbos come in t3 with 8cm rear, as 10cm rear Is Goin to be laggy as on my rb22. Something smallish, really want to try and fit it on Standard manifold.

Rb22 With 268Deg 9Mm Lift Cams In/ex
Dave.TAS replied to Dave.TAS's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks trent! You supplied the cams to justin "stockers" I believe, but ive bought his engine and like I said ran out of money so will just be putting the rb25 turbo on. Look forward to any further feedback or thoughts. My daily at moment is a ca18de 10.5:1 with his 264 8.5s, so im used to a fluffy doughy bottom end. Does get better up top but yeh not much haha -
Hi, first post long time reader. Have an rb22 on the way with camtech 268 9mm cams. Have run out of Money for the moment, need to daily the car soon. Have great condition rb25 turbo. You see the plan coming together right? Don't care much for some fantastic dyno figure. Asking for peoples experience and thoughts on having these cams with a rb22 with a rb25 turbo. I know almost no one will have run this setup. Share your thoughts on how it will drive, low, mid, top end.
