  1. oh, don't doubt at all that what you say is the truth. I know a chipped ECU is illegal, just wondering if there's some leniency they're showing now, in regards to chipped ECU's or something like that. Once i've got all the performance bits i want on the car, i'm going for a Dr.Drift ecu remap, i know it's illegal but meh... my exhaust is very quiet, otherwise i have nothing really to be picked up for EPA.
  2. so why weren't they worried about it with stolen_s15's car?
  3. i can answer this was some first hand experience! Motul 300V slightly better than Mobil 1 0w40 none-the-less, Mobil 1 is still a very good oil. 0w40 is not too thin, well unless if you have a very old car, or perhaps doing some serious track work. But street driven, Mobil 1 is more than fine I just did my R34 on saturday, Mobil 1 0w40 (would have gone Motul 300V, but i was doing a rather major service, so next time) and it took 5 quarts. 1 quart = 950ml, roughly. So it took 4.75Litres. Sorry, but you're going to have to buy another 1L bottle. 5L is about perfect. This was with an oil filter change as well. I was told to stay clear of Ryco. I used OEM filters on saturday (fuel/air/oil). From Nissan, it was about $11 or $16, can't remember which, but it was cheap. Any dealer will have it in stock as it's not a special "For R34's only" item. Hope that helps! Oh, car is running slightly smoother, i'm pretty sure it's quieter as well. The lifters on RB's are usually fairly noisy, but the tapety noise of the lifters has reduced a little. My car seems to be in very good nick the further my mate and i look at it (he's a mechanic). So i don't think i have significant gains to make in terms of 'running better' with a good service. But the Mobil 1 has "smoothed" out the engine somewhat, and has made it quieter as well. cheers, daniel
  4. ^ well that is VERY interesting... Ash, would that just be down to luck, and who you get on the day?
  5. hahahahha
  6. go on, make the Evo quicker than the quickest you have at work... won't take too much work!! "do it.......do it"
  7. what $$ are we looking at for an emissions test? how's the dyno Sam? from the other 'dyno-day' thread, there was something about an unforunate "incident" involving Toll...
  8. just got back from the service. Had a very good look in the engine (as much as you can after you take the oil cap off) no sludge, gunk. Used one of those bright portable light things, all good. Looked quite clean, mechanic actually said an engine flush wouldn't make it cleaner. And we were going to use a Nulon product, the 'Martini' is branded something else, but apparently made by martini. who knows. So yeah, i was going to do what Beer Baron said, drop the oil after maybe 2,500km's... but the engine looked quite clean. Compliance had changed all the filters, oil/fuel/air, so they weren't that old. No metal fillings or anything around the gearbox screw... so yeah, all-in-all, happy with the no sludge, etc. Prob just do a change at the next 5,000km.
  9. so this test is around $70 and most car garages can do it? or do you need to go to a special place? Keen to see how my engine is doing. Might do one of those leak down tests too, someone mentioned above. oh well vidospace, now you can build whatever engine you want. N1 block ftw!!
  10. ^ would that be ok if the 80 was say a 140? or are those #'s still too low?
  11. i heard a government ad on the radio that says "households" make up 60% of water consumption. Now i've heard industry uses about 87%, for a grand total for 147%... hmm me fail maths? that's unpossible.... sooooo what gives?
  12. just another reason to NEVER buy an import from a dealer. Nothing but bad stories. Buy privately, or import yourself. Across the country, there would be so FEW reputable dealers. i wonder if they were playing around with odo (via computer), to show a more favourable km reading, and have now rooted it royally which dealer?
  13. can any car workshop/garage do one of these? is it cheap? i wouldn't mind just getting one done to see my engine is like. is it a very good indication of how healthy an engine is?
  14. sorry i should say this is the first oil change I'VE done... compliance place said they changed oils. We checked about 3000km's in from compliance, oil "looked" 100% fine. it's been about 6000km's since then, so yes, i'm bad, it's over due. Sorry, confusing ppl a bit, first change i've done. Should have mentioned compliance as you can probably gather, from the time i've head it, i haven't driven it much. It's only been registered for about 10 months, MAJOR dramas with DOTARS, etc... EDIT: hmm... not sure if i've got the balls to use metho in the car and no semi-synth
  15. cool. Do you remember what product was used to do the flush?
  16. i think Castrol Syntrax is another good alternative for the diff. Nulon Engine Oil Flush. What are you thoughts on this guys? Worthwhile? Waste of time? Just plain dodgy? http://www.nulon.com.au/products.php?productId=eof I believe Martini make a similar product, but damned if i can find the name of it...
  17. can you post pic of the white ones? sounds like what i want... i don't like the standard led look because it's just a pin-point of light. The way you describe yours, how it lights all around like a halogen one, sounds good. but would still like pics of a the white one please EDIT: what brand are they? do you have pics of the bulb just on it's own?
  18. cool, thanks Chris. are you referring to the same Martini product you've used to clean the car? Or just a some other engine/oil flush? Because i went to Martini's site, and couldn't find any "cleaning" product I'm keen to hear why some people wouldn't recommend it, ie what the dangers actually are Yeah, i'm putting in all full synthetics. Mobil 1 0w40 Redline MT-90 for the gearbox Redline Gear Oil 75w90 for the diff Gone the best, except for the engine oil, you can go better than Mobil 1, but it's a good start. Next time when i don't have to do so much, i'll go up a rung on the engine oil. Get's pricey when doing everything cheers, daniel
Kparts 三浦 got a reply, but he sent pics of the wrong product! hehehe So i replied with the same bit of text you wrote, but added a link with the specific product i wanted. just wondering what this says? cheers, daniel EDIT: i babelfished it, just to get the jist. Would still like a translation is possible, but i think he said that he didn't have a pic of the rear, but that's about as much as i could decipher from the Engrish
  20. Hi all, the big service saga continues, but is drawing to a close, got the car booked in for saturday morning anywho, i was told to do an engine flush or oil flush? just to get all the crap/build-up out because the oil hasn't been changed for a while. Was wondering exactly what this means? What products people have used to do this? I think my mate said he was going to use some Martini product. I'm skeptical as i can't find any Martini product made to 'clean' anything. so yeah a little lost on what this whole process is. It sounds worthwhile as this is the first service it's had since it's landed in oz so i don't know what it's life was like before in Japan, and a good clean sounds like a good idea. any dangers in doing this so called "flush"? apparently have to run the car for 30mins or something... cheers, daniel
  21. searched ns.com, no luck. checked out cj motor trader, nothing. Started a thread in the general section, and no one has heard of them in 18" now. could you find what you find by any chance? get a link maybe? because i'm VERY interested...
  22. my remote start still requires the key, you can turn it on, but nothing will happen with out the key in the ignition and it turned to 'on', and then u press the brake pedal i think. Don't use it much because it doesn't work! anyways, i still need my key
