so say with a 2.8, there's no off the shelf sized pistons you could get to get the desired CR? do custom pistons command a large premium over 'off the shelf' ones?
-
it "seems" darker than OEM in those pics? i have my old set of lights lying around the garage (Qest are a full light swap like what you're thinking) so if you want to dry and get the real Nismo look, you can have a play with my prev set perhaps. That's what i noticed as well with the Qest ones on the black backing, you can see the LED's much clearer when they're not on. From the cars i've seen with Nismo ones, this isn't really the case, so they must use a more natural backing colour. Red perhaps, but maybe even a grey or cardboard colour?
-
so what's the basics of increasing the comp of an engine build?
-
pretty sure Trent does my dyno runs in 5th... just get it on a hub dyno, don't have to worry about this strapping down business
-
does the black backing make the lights look 'tinted' when they're not on? have you pulled apart a Nismo set? do they mount on black backing? i've got the Qest ones, they look great and are made very nicely but back is too light, i want the OEM look like Nismo. I take it these are brighter than Nismo?

knock off $300 or so for the readout as well... even cheaper scotty, i don't believe the E% can be sent as a 0-5v signal... from what know (which admittedly is not much) the signal needs to be sent as a digital frequency if you're talking about the E% readout screen... yes, that does some sort of conversion i do vaguely remember thinking about using the output from that to the ECU... but can't quite remember. I guess what you need to do is make or get something that changes the frequency to 0-5v on the cheap, just skip all the screen bit, and just do the conversion.

i didn't get a Link map sensor, i just got my stuff from tuffcarparts, they made the adpaters for the ID1000's for my different mm sized fuel rail. MAP sensor was pretty cheap from memory, $50? i don't remember it being of any consequence really. EDIT: just checked email, $110... prob could find it under $100 as this was a while back, dollar is better now. How much are the Haltech map sensors?

who the hell was that? sounds like crazy talk... no, that's my brother 'crazy talk' if that were true, a lot of people all over the world would be in the shit. I got my ID's from T1 racing. You can get the base Bosch model, but i generally recommend people to get the real thing. They're not much, but a little bit more expensive now because the Europeans can't get their shit together If you go the Link, you need the expansion loom thingy, it's got the digital input. Sensors were $350'ish from memory - don't need the content readout. The loom cable Trent thought was very similar to a AC Delco (?) product, i never chased up on that, but you could possibly skip on that for a cheaper option. I saw some second hand sensors going for like $50 USD, so you could def do it on the cheap. Don't think any has really tested the reliability of these items as they age. Prob best to call Holden and ask them are the content sensors listed as a 'consumable'. If you go a second hand one, you'd be wise to invest in a E% readout, all display it somehow. Depending on the tuner, and how many setups they've done, you'll probably find that they can get away with 3 or so maps, but as Paul said they're not 'start from the beginning' maps anyway. We're going to play around a bit with how the content sensor is all plumbed up, will report back with any findings.

Go the G4, only a couple hundred over a PFC at the end of the day. Chequered Tuning were getting a few in so maybe see if you can jump in on that if you're keen. Don't have to do flex-fuel straight away but if you have to buy an ECU anyway, you'd be mad not to get a flex capable one now
-
what ecu? i've never really ran more boost on E85, i know some people do... but Trent has always left the PSI the same. if you're only running E-flex, don't tune on drum E85 - i've never seen Caltex higher than E70 - on a safe tune, driving on 85% wouldn't make a massive difference, but it's not something you'd want to do all the time. If you've got a newer ECU which can accept a digital input, thinking about getting a flex-fuel setup.
-
from both my R34's, i never noticed a huge 'response' increase with E85, sure a stack more midrange and what not, but you're not going to be spooling -5's at 4000rpm just because you've switched to E85. Can't say i've really seen that sort of difference either in other peoples results.

"well known franchises" are just a lottery, the name means jack unfortunately... completely and totally up to who runs them and who they've hired. Pricing can vary a lot as well. Funnily enough, i remember something about backing plates and my A1RM's when i got mine put into my GT-T... interesting... maybe it's a GT-T thing? i remember something about the guy who put them in saying he couldn't fit them with the plates? they were noisy, and i don't think they ever went back in... can't remember...

for what it's worth 385rwkw on Eflex, 400rwkw on drum E85 (but United at 85% will give same results)

my ethanol content sensor has been reading between 83-85% - i would think it's more accurate than a test kit, but i dunno. I filled up at a new outlet in Scoresby yday, said they've only had it 1-2 months - so i'll get the laptop out and see if there's any difference between outlets. Given i found a new E85 outlet, i thought i'd check the United website to see who else might be new.... check out Melbourne now!! Outlets are definitely growing!! Nice!! don't a lot of the aftermarket ECU's have base maps anyway? so it's not like you'd be starting from scratch with a a/m ECU - as for running in, Rob @ RIPS has mentioned a few times that it's straight to full load tune once the thing is together, and considering you've built an RB30, just go for it. If it's good enough for RIPS it's certainly good enough for everyone else.

i've seen a tonne of gigs over the years, camped outside Palais to get front seats for shows etc... but i don't think i've ever seen someone perform like that. Dallas is a freak. The band stuff was fantastic and puts the studio stuff to shame, but Dallas on his own.... un-f*cking-believable. If anyone likes well written songs, no beats, loops etc... just well crafted song-writing in it's purest form... City and Colour - start with Little Hell album. If you get the chance to see him live, do NOT hesitate.
-
little update, still seeing United being very consistent with E% which is cool, 83-85%
-
plugin Links/Vipecs are wasted spark i'm pretty sure, only the wire-ins are sequential i remember asking Rob @ RIPS about it, said he didn't really see the need unless it was a serious motorsport application.
-
all Midori, s/s front pipes and and Ti catback - Sard cat. not sure on the diametre though, and it would be listed in mm too. as for ECU, Link G4 plugin - unless it's a really serious build, Ling G4 Xtreme, but obviously that's a wire-in job. I think there are some sort of harnesses floating around for the 26 though...
-
i asked Paul ages ago, and at that stage he was only doing it with full engine builds, but sounds like things have changed. ERD will also do it, but like Red R, you gotta send them the head.

newb time... what exactly is shuffling and i'm assuming it's a bad thing from how this thread is referring to it?

nothing is the same as Injector Dynamics - yes they all start off as the same base model Bosch but ID do their own thing to them and then sell them, whether or not that's marketing or an actual improvement in the injector itself...who knows, but enough people who know what they're talking about comment on ID's specifically, so i would like to think there is something to say of the process ID undertake. The price isn't that much different, just get the ID's. And don't let anyone sell you the bog standard ones and say they're ID's, they're not. It sounds stupid to point out but only ID injectors are ID Injectors
