  6. hehehe, i didn't see no beast of a red Evo around? Where was i on the weekend... hmm.. drove to city to pick up gf from QV, then went to richmond for dinner, then home. Sunday, went to work as per normal in Dorcas st. by they way, your car looks hawwt! Rims should be the preverbial icing. i know that it's straight foward, but bcos i'm a complete noob i don't want to go destroy anything, so would like to see it in the flesh. Like when greg came and helped me install my Splitfire coilpacks
  7. hey y'all just been reading a few threads, and the whole "service the car yourself, it's cheaper" thing seems to come up a fair bit. Personally, i'd love to know how to do the basics on my car and i would think others would do. So in the same vain as the Meguiars car care day, what do you guys'n'gals think of a 'learn how to service your car SAU Vic day'? I'm sure there are a multitude of people here he would know how, so i guess it's just requiring a bit of their time, a location, maybe a bbbq and possibly a vortex thoughts? cheers, chinny
  8. modern skylines, 31+ always start as 4 door cars.
  9. at work, can't be assed reading article. just want to know 1 thing, how many fatalities on no speed limit roads, since there have been on speed limits?
  10. hmmm... i wouldn't
  11. dad got a 335i for the weeked (from sat arvo) had a quick spin before work today. It doesn't feel quick because it's just so damn smooth! Quicker than my R34 but my 34 feels quicker? The gear changes are freaky quick, amazed and how quick it could downshift. No lag (that's prob because the underlying 3ltr straight six is so responsive) Can't tell it's a turbo car, although it's prob running quite small turbo's. Ride very comfy, but stable in the corners. Run-flat tyres are fine, don't know what all the crap about them is. Paddles take a little getting use to. Bottom line. VERY deceiving speed, a lot quicker than it feels... once you look at the tacho Awesome car. Time to mod the R34 took a few quick pics, will post 'em up soon
  12. parking is a bit of a biatch around there.
  13. this doesn't have anything to do with $, but all to do with preferences. That's why most performance marques have the paddles AND a shifter of sorts. The newer SMG versions (which are actually good) are a sequential style shifter. Pull back to go UP, push up to go DOWN (gears). I would imagine the GTR would have some shifter, and maybe paddles. To address the full lock + paddles issue. but that's a good point about shifting from say 2nd to 5th. I'd be willing to bet though, that you could flick the paddle 3 times just as fast as shifting to 5th.
  14. i wouldn't feel comfortable i had the skills to drive my R34 without ABS or TC, for those emergency situations, at my skill level, i'd like 'em there.
  15. hahaha, this exact thing came up with my dad. He's ordered a 335i, hoping January delivery (was originally march, april). I'm like dad, get a R34 GTR V-Spec, would f*cken hammer! Chuck some leather in there if you really wanted I mean, you guys are right, at that age he's keen on a real performer like a R34 GTR, but the luxury of a BMW coupe is just too much to pass by. Add to that the near current M3 performance, it's a VERY tasty package. I look forward to "BATTLES!!" with the 335ci. Going to need to "modify" the R34 to get it up to scratch me thinks I can't wait to to see how it goes. In reference to the first engine of it's kind here, might be referring to the direct injection? Not sure. The lag is suppose to be very negligible in these too, so should be heaps of fun. Now where's that option list I always get him to add some extra goodies to his BM's 19's... harmon kardon speakers (george lucas certified! ha!)... i'll keep you guys posted
  16. i wouldn't really believe much of the title, re 2009, considering they're still insisting it's a Skyline. all the top performance cars you can turn off pretty much all the eletronic aids, except ABS. And the gearboxes only change WHEN you want them, so they are just manuals anyway. Just electronically operated clutches. So the only thing you have to "live" with is ABS. I would think your R33 has ABS, why haven't you ripped it out yet? You have to appreciate at some stage, there are some things that car can do better on it's own, than with a human controlling it.
  17. it's fact, humans can't shift as fast a the top of the line auto boxes. period. DSG is arguably the best gearbox out there at the moment, something about 2 clutches, and having the next gear ready. Was it "borrowed" from maserati? anywho, 997 Turbo turbo uses a slush box, one of the head tech dudes was quoted as saying something along the lines of 'it shifts quicker than any human can, so why not use it over a manual?" damn straight too. Check the specs of a DSG VW car compared to a manual, DSG 0-100 times are significantly quicker
  18. don't worry, i paid, got no confirmation and it just turned up one day. Very normal, don't worry about it, you'll get it. It's just the way he works, you won't get ripped, you'll get your part. 2 days, dude, just be patient. It'll come
  19. 3 people at work also failed to get tickets. was anyone lucky??? they must have been all allocated already or something, with very few available to the public. Seriously, this thing wasn't even advertised!!
  20. ^ i don't think 120psi on all cylinders is a very good start?
  21. no the film is different. This is a live talk by Al Gore at the Hamer Hall, Arts Centre. Free event, but all the tickets were gone and i was ringing constantly from 8:50am (opened 9am). Got onto someone at 9:20 after being on hold for 20 minutes and was told all the tickets were gone. so i'm hoping some of you lovely SAU ppl might have some connections, or better yet some spare tickets? or 2 tickets i could even buy?
  22. anyone going to this? anyone got tickets? and more importantly, who can give me 2? willing to pay cheers, chinny
