just thought i'd share my underpants changing experiences with ya guys in the last 2 weeks, i've been lucky enough to be in the presence of 2 R32 GTR's, a BMW E46 M3, and a BMW M5. I guy i met on the forum came round to pick a CD up from my house last week, white R32 GTR. I've never actually been that close to one, i've only ever seen them driving on the road for a couple of seconds. Man, that car is really something right up close, damn it demands respect!! While I was at Hampton BP, a Black R32 GTR pulls in (complete with hot chick in passenger seat ) I think you know what i was looking at more!! Tonight, an awesome red M3 launches, and i mean LAUNCHES from the other side of the lights, passed me. That thing was singing like you wouldn't believe!!! I saw it on the other side of the lights and wound my window down all the way, hoping that the guy wasn't some rich old guy who couldn't drive. I was lucky, they guy took off big time and i've always heard about how u are hard pressed to find a better sounding car than the new M3, now i know why. It was incredible!!!! Then about 5 mins later a black M5 turns into the road i was on and blasts up the street. Needless to say, i was quite delirous by the time i got home. Thank you bayside for thy bounty of awesome cars to cast thy eyes upon.

The new scheme is a killer to the cheaper imports. Like the R33's, Silvias, Soarers. The compliance costs is where it really hits home. It will cost a heap more to compliance a R33 once the new scheme comes in. The benefits that I've seen after doing 6 months of looking, and reading, and reading....oh and did i mention reading?? Are that, 1) Because of the sheer numbers of cars that ppl like Craig at J-Spec and Geoff at Prestige get to look at, you will always find exactly what you want. You can say i want this, this, this but not that. It might take a few months, but with approx 50,000 cars a week, you'll find it eventually. For example, I want to get a Blue R34 GT-T next year, exact same colour as the R34 GTR Blue. But apart from 1 guy in NZ, I'm pretty sure that there isn't any blue GT-T's in Oz, well none from when i've looked around. But i know i'll be able to get one in Japan. Cars at Japan auctions are graded unbiasedly (that a word??) Anything from grade 4 up, and ur buying a very tidy car. Even the grade 3.5 are usually pretty good. Plus, the auction place will grade the car, then Craig's ppl or Geoff's ppl will get the report on the car, and look at it themselves, so the car is being checked twice. So you are going to get an accurate report on the car. They'll even tell you when the k's on the speedo look wrong, and will tell you what they think the car should have done. Generally speaking, cars in Japan are usually in better condition and have less k's on them for their age, compared to Oz cars, generally. But as it's already been said, if you are prepared to wait for exactly what you want, and save yourself a few thousand, then import. But if you want something, say a bit easier to find. Like a black, or grey R33 then maybe have a look round here. But i was warned on the quality of trading post Skylines, and definitely not a dealer either. Another option may be Red Ace Motors in Carnegie (akeenan is the man to ask about these guys) They work slightly differently to J-Spec and Prestige in that they import the car over in their name, so they own the car. So if anything happens in transit, or if the car has to sit on the docks at 50bucks a day in Japan, that's their costs, not urs. But as a general verdict (even tho I haven't done either ) I'm going to go the import road, cos newer cars like GT-T's aren't affected by the new scheme as much. Do the sums for compliancing a R33 under the new scheme to what's available here. But i think if you start looking around February, you'll be sweet to get it in under the old scheme.

well apprently, yeah. He was going to bring back the 10% rule, so 66, 77, 110km/hr. yeah, bracks is like "we got more police" well the only place i've seen them is harrasing kids on the train lines for tickets? How the f*ck is that police work?? And they profile like u wouldn't believe!!!!! One day i was on the train, had like a pair of nice Levi jeans, ralph lauren polo jumper, yada yada, walked straight passed me. Week later, baggy jeans and a hooded jumper, straight passed the old lady and asked me to show my ticket. Then proceeds to start a convo with me (all the while taking down ALL my details, address, phone numbers, the works) cop: "so where u off to?" me: "brighton beach" cop: "ah yeah....what's going down there?" (yeah homy, drop down the ghetto talk niggah) me: "ah.....my car" that shut him up pretty quick. Just really gives me the shits how they have nothing better to do than to hassle kids and young ppl with good cars. There are MUCH bigger things going on that the police should be concerned about. p.s. i asked him why he needed to take down all my details, and he said so he can show his boss he is doing something all day......BULLSH*T!!!!! argh!!! :D

i think ur generalising a bit here. Yes the M's are magnificent cars, 250kw's (or there abouts) out of a 3.2 Straight Six. Very impressive. 294kw's out of a 4.9 V8, very impressive. Where holden manages a meager 225kw out of a 5.7 V8...hmmm, something wrong here. anyways. I agree with ur 318i, for what u spend on that, you could get a very nice Skyline. But that's where it stops. A 330ci, or 330i, 530i, any of the 7 series, are awesome cars. The handle beautifully, go really well (the 330ci is a quick car) and have awesome brakes. BMW's are known for their handling. But they are not all meant to be sports cars! That's the M's job. Cannot say that ur a poser if u have a BMW (exception of 20 in 318i) They are beautiful cars, and definitely see myself in one when i just wanna cruise.

read this the other day in "Drive", thought it was quite good, for those who missed it, should be interesting reading... ____________________________________________________ Can consumers look to this weekend's Bathurst 24 Hours as a guide to the reliability of showroom cars? Not quite. V8 Supercar racer John Bowe is angry that a field of production-based cars contesting the Bathurst 24-hour race this weekend has to deal with a 7.0-litre Holden Monaro sports sedan (pictured), a car he claims is "way, way outside the spirit of the rules". "The Monaro should win by miles," says Bowe, who will drive a $750,000 Ferrari 360GT in the first of what is expected to become an annual event on the calendar. "Apart from the shell, there is not a single thing on that car that relates to the original Monaro," insists Bowe, who lists a 7.0-litre Corvette engine from a Le Mans racer, Holinger six-speed sequential gearbox, Ford differential and specially fabricated front and rear suspension. "The road-car suspension has been scrapped in favour of a unique double-wishbone racing rear-end design manufactured by Harrop Engineering -- it's more a Harrop car than a Holden," says Bowe, who, we should point out, also works for Holden's arch rival Ford developing performance road cars. "It has more power than a V8 supercar ... if it's not 10 seconds faster than the rest, it's a joke." Bowe says he doesn't blame Holden for grabbing the opportunity to give the Monaro an image boost but wonders whether the punters will be fooled into believing that "this $1 million creation is really a $60,000 Monaro". Bowe says that Procar, the organising body behind the 24-hour race, has bent over backwards to attract the Monaro beast into the event. "It's wrong, but we're not taking our cricket bat home," he says. "We're going to Mount Panorama to do our best with a production-based car that meets the FIA regulations." The controversy over the Monaro "sports sedan" has dominated discussions in the weeks leading into the inaugural Bathurst 24 Hours, which has attracted international teams to Australia. Most of the cars competing for outright honours are limited-edition competition versions such as the Ferrari 360GT and Porsche 911 GT3 RS. A dark horse is the American-built Mosler, entered by a British team. It's a very low-volume 1100kg street racer with a reported 420kW on tap. Consumers seeking a guide to the reliability and pace of more affordable near-stock models will need to look further back in the field to the likes of Ford Falcons, Holden Commodores, Mitsubishi Evos, BMW M3s, Subaru WRX Stis, and Toyota MR2s, along with a lone Nissan 350Z. Factory-entered cars are rare, which is surprising, given what appears to be a great opportunity for manufacturers to establish a car's sporting credentials and score some serious backyard barbecue cred. Returning Australian international David Brabham, who is racing a Porsche GT3 RS, confirmed the race promises to be no walk in the park. "Mount Panorama has got to be one of the toughest circuits anywhere -- it's a brutal place on car and driver," said the veteran of 16 previous 24-hour races in places like Spa, Daytona and Le Mans. ____________________________________________________
