Maybe Vodka in there too.

You also need to bed your brakes when you machine the rotors or put new pads in.

No the sedan is no different. It might be the non turbo.

Dyno Results: 196rwkw For Basically Stock Rb25det
Abo Bob replied to Taso84's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah methinks the number is not realistic but that's not important. If that is right it is running way too lean and death is only around the corner. I would expect the AFR's to get gradually leaner if the fuel pump was no good but they are like that right the way across. What colour is your exhaust? Is it grey or black? If grey try to describe the shade. -
Insane!

Original Bore, Pistons And Compression Ratio Rb25det
Abo Bob replied to h2k's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Standard bore is 86mm. I would use a stock thickness headgasket (1mm) and get your desired compression ratio by machining the head to suit. You need to decide on what CR you want. Cometic make a good quality hrad gasket which is cheaper than most. RB26/GTR rods do indeed fit and a good cheap upgrade. We can usually get pistons for about $1300AUS or less. I like Wiseco but there are several other brands that are good. -
I miss the midrange thump of power that the auto gave and the ease of use in traffic but my new top end is great fun. Also when I first had the conversion done I was using the auto ROM tune which gave lots of power but made me feel like a mongaloid when driving. Now I know that it wasn't me, it was the tune because I can now take off much more smoothly where before I was jerking around a lot. Also the clutch took a couple of weeks to settle in but is nice now. I also needed some 2rismo tips on driving again. I wont bore you with the details but i'm getting a lot more out of 1st gear now. Yeah Hills usually takes longer than expected for the same reason but he has just employed a mate of his who was at IBM, Adam, to manage the office and take the phone calls etc so I think that it should get substantially better soon.

Another What Is Wrong With My Car Thread.

Apart from a couple of little things I will do over the next few weeks I'm pretty happy. I got the car converted from auto to manual a little while ago by Greg at Autosport Engineering in Kirrawee. They did a pretty good job and were priced well. They also get things done quickly and efficiently. Next I got the car tuned by Mark at Hills Motorsports. It ran pretty well but ran out of injectors. Over the next few days the car deteriorated so that I had to keep dropping the boost, eventually to stock, just so it wouldn't ping. I tried everything I could think of and eventually took it back to Hills to diagnose. It turned out to be a wire that used to go to the auto shorting out. You wouldn't think that a simple tacho type signal could cause so much of a problem but it was causing the timing to jump all over the place. Up to 17 extra degrees of timing due to the CAS signal being changed. No wonder the bloody thing pinged and thank god I already blew my engine once and now have some nice forged pistons in there which handled quite a bit with no obvious problems. Once this was figured out the PowerFC was reinstalled but still had the stock AFM from when we were changing things around trying to diagnose the problem. I needed the car so took it for the weekend but tonight I went back to Hills to check the tune with the Z32 in place. Mark spent considerable time on the dyno staying there working on it til 8:30 tonight to make it run right. I'm sure he wouldn't want me advertising that he is "open" at this time of night but I'm just trying to impart a picture of his dedication to the job. The whole time we had the problem he did what he could to help me. He has lent me a car, driven me home once and stayed late twice. When I tried to give him money he said he wanted to make sure I was completely happy with the car before he asked for payment. When I drove off home he rang me half an hour later to check up on the car. The other thing I'll say is that I can now see the difference between a crap tune and a good one. To test what Mark told me, on the way home I braked down to about 45km/h in 5th gear and accelarated up a hill in that gear. (for hills people, it was from the lights towards the school going south down Windsor Road) I went from 1000rpm in 5th up a hill to 60km/h. I'm not saying it did it very quickly but it did it smoothly with out a hint of a ping. This was only a touch up tune and still he was working on various parts of the maps for half an hour before he even did the first power run. Final power figure was 286rwkw which I think is unrealistic. I will run it on a dyno it has been on before to get some graphs to post up here. Anyway, I just wanted to share. I've heard a few things said about Mark but no one has suggested he insn't a good tuner.

R34 Gtt + Full Exhaust Mod - 164.7rwkw
Abo Bob replied to Haxorz's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I have only recently come to understand why putting an after market exhaust on causes the boost to increase. It's because there is less restriction on the exhaust getting out of the turbo which means it doesn't have to push as hard but since it still comes out of the exhaust manifold with the same pressure it spins the exhaust wheel faster. Obviously the impeller goes faster too which pushes more air hence more boost. The other thing is that the exhaust takes the path of least resistance. Once you have an aftermarket exhaust on this can often be through the exhaust wheel rather than out of the wastegate even if it open as far as it goes. So blaming the actuator for the boost increase in not right. Also if you look at a stock dump pipe, the waste gate can't actually open all the way and the gases coming out of there go at right angles into the main flow so I think this restriction causes more gas to go through the exhaust wheel rather than the wastegate and this increases the boost. If whoever said they had the stock dump maybe put a nice split dump on there they might find they have better boost control. -
Got the details at work but we need a few entrants and a few flaggies. We can get people $40 CAMS day licences if $85 is too much. Also, for those of you comparing this price to Wakefield, don't forget that this track is in Sydney so you are spending about $80 less in fuel getting to and from the track.

Thanks very much Mal. We need all we can get at this stage.

No problems. Your happiness is my reward. :D

Shit Happens, believe Or Not! Rb20 Crying....
Abo Bob replied to vcool's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Haha. If you come over to my house with it I'll even put it in for some good beer money. -
Does it go back to normal if you turn the car off completely and restart it? Mine would occasionally do this but go to 3rd gear. A 'reboot' fixed it every time.
-
I think it will but maybe by posting this thread will come to the attention of people who actually know.
-
I find it weird that people were telling you otherwise cos it's pretty well known that: R32 GTST = push R32 GTR = push (except some very late models) R33 GTST = push R33 GTR = pull R34 GTT = pull R34 GTR = pull As you can see the pull type clutch is a more modern device. It requires less effort to disengage than a push type thus powerful cars with light clutches. This is not just the case with Skylines.

Rb25 Gearbox Into R32
Abo Bob replied to lwboosted's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I'm thinking your reverse light might be similar to my boot light. Bear with me here. I wanted a second light in my boot so I slipped a wire onto the positive terminal and the second I just earthed. The light worked. What I didn't realise is that it didn't turn off when I shut the boot. I don't know what the concept is called but it's something like 'negative switched'. Basically if you use a normal earth the circuit will be complete but the switch is on the negative side of the thing you are powering up rather than the positive which is what I was expecting. So (here comes the relevance) if you are earthing your reverse switch the wrong way the lights will always be on and if you think the wires are just back to front they will always be off. You need to find the right earth for that switch. Now I wouldn't have a clue about reverse switches but your story just rang bells for me and my dilemma with my boot light. -
R34 Gtt Auto Box Problems
Abo Bob replied to msports180's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
This happened to me. It is on the way out and will never recover on it's own or with fluid changes or adjustments. I can find you a second hand one if you want - pm me - and this is the cheapest option. I had mine rebuilt by MV Automatics in Adelaide. It is well worth freighting to Mike because he is the only person in Australia who actually knows these boxes despite what other people might tell you about their skills. Cost about $3500 plus freight from memory with upgraded stall converter, valvebody, servos, kevlar bands, etc etc to handle at least 300rwkw. -
A private day for Skylines is unobtainable. The wont reply to phone messages, emails or letters. WSID is run by a bunch of people who only care about V8's and top fuelers. That said, if we didn't own Skylines we could get a private day for $10,000 with a list of rules and requirements that are practically impossible to comply with.
-
There is actually a case which is sometimes used as authority by Magistrates if they know about it which says that coppers are inherantly more reliable witnesses than defendants.
-
How much does it suck that you are hoping for 4 runs. What a joke WSID are.

Bus Driver Has Over 10 Crashes A Year
Abo Bob replied to scathing's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I have been catching Sydney buses for a while and most of them are very skillful drivers. I was on a bus once though, and the bus had it's mirror taken off. I am sure the driver did it deliberately cos he didn't want to drive because he just immediately kicked us all off the bus and I was up the front watching him. Another time the same thing happened the driver stopped, radioed in and wrote a little note. Took him all of about 4 minutes and we were back on the way. That said, my uncle drove trams in melbourne. 13 accidents in 7 years.
