  1. Without commenting on prices or quality. I was at GCG the other day and had to wait a bit for something. Anyway I just sat on the stool there at the front desk for about half an hour and was witness to several 'customers' visiting and calling. All I can say is, those guys are soo patient to deal with that shit day after day. I can understand why performance type shops often have gruff and abrupt type people at the front line. They are pobably not like that in private but the job must send them around the loop. The stupid questions outnumbered the sensible ones 50 to 1 and I'm not even exagerating.
  2. That the kind of thing I was after. Thanks for that. It was both a question and a statement. I hope to make a reference thread for gaskets because whenever I am bolting something together I've never been sure what type of goop to use and what type of gasket. With my current knowledge I couldn't hope to build an engine like you have so for people like me, things like gasket goop threads can help.
  3. It has come to my attention that I am not paticularly au fait with gaskets and gasket goop. Perhaps people could state only for things they know for sure the following. What items were you bolting together. What type of gasket did you use. What is the gasket made of. What kind of goop did you use and why. If no goop, explain why this particular job requires no goop. Any tips or tricks to the job? Ok, I'll start. I bolted the pan onto the bottom of the transmission. I reused the old gasket because it was stuck quite well to the pan from when I took it off. Don't know what it's made of but it looked like black thin cardboard. I used Permatex No.3 (Actually I used Locktite No.3 but was told it is the same thing) because the auto transmission place told me to. They said it's a wet one that never hardens. The packet says you can use it on threads and still get them off later. I'm interested to hear about cam cover jobs and oil drain pipe on the turbo. Perhaps also, people who want to know what to use on a particular job could post a query in this thread which give some focus to the experts rather than just generally asking about gaskets and goop. Anyone got any links to goop sites? Thanks.
  4. Well it is a turbo.
  5. I've been trying to figure out the code but no luck yet.
  6. Has anyone put this link in yet? http://www.fortheboyz.com/tech/nitrous.php
  7. There is.
  8. That's pretty good. I think I got about that by the end of my first track day there. Down to 1:15's now with a few mods. Stockish skylines usually run around 1:16 to 1:20 in their first outing there.
  9. There is a actually a 3rd series which was stripped back. You do not want it. Not sure on the dates but I think it was just the last few months of production.
  10. Yes two types of lsd. Viscous and helical. I believe the helical only came with manual RB25DET although not 100% on this.
  11. Here is something like yours.
  12. You know the ones that hold half your plastic undertray up and your boot trim in and the factory airbox to the radiator support. Cars use them all over the place. They have an inside bit and and outside bit. When you push them through a hole the inside bit expands the outside bit by being in there which stops the thing falling out. Do you know what I mean? Well where can I get them? Clips.
  13. Check this one out.
  14. 12 should be enough to get you over 250 rwhp but not lots over. Oh well, time to buy a big ****off turbo me thinks.
  15. What boost are you running?
  16. You will most likely need a fuel pump. I have just installed a GCG highflow and getting my ecu back tomorrow with dyno then too. I will post up probably a new thread when it's done.
  17. Or find a sot somewhere around your suspension or under the cross member or under the chasis rail. I don't like using the sump but some people use it.
  18. I didn't really feel like I gained any power from a front mount but I put that down to stock R34 cooler being bigger to start with. It's not impossibly hard though. I've just fitted a upgraded valvebody to the transmission which should improve things heaps. Check the group buy on it for more info and peoples results.
  19. Having a big filter like that I think would be detrimental to your oil pressure.
  20. Yes he is. I would install the turbo and fuel pump then take it to a dyno and turn the boost up as far as works for it.
  21. Oh great, so now I need a power steering fluid cooler on the front of my car. What about brake fluid coolers? Do they exist?
  22. I would have thought you would lose power if you gapped them that low.
  23. Same place as Elushun but I also have my transmission cooler there in front of it. I'll try to remember to take a photo tonight. I didn't take the front bar off to do it.
  24. Those figures sound about right to me although Litres per 100km is I think the easiest way to understand it. So you have said from 12.5 to 16.7 Litres pre 100kms. That said I can get over 20 giving it a hard time and I even did 32 with almost all racetrack driving. General but not excessive hoonish behaviour nets 16-18.
  25. Also, I'd suggest doing at least a cat back if not a full exhaust before you up the boost.
