If I'm only punting it around a track then I can modify the seat rails to suit I would guess.

I'm not sure how serious I want to race so I'm guessing I'll have to road register it. I'm thinking that a GTR could cost some bigger $ to keep happy whereas something smaller with only one turbo might stay within a modest budget. Would it be easy to get something already modified or would I have compliance issues?

What would 10-15k get me? A shitbox? Maybe 15 plus 5 for mods/repairs?

I'm thinking that I'd rather have some comfort from my 34, heading away from squeaky brakes and blown pipes and gaskets. I'm thinking about a 180 or an old silvia or something. Not really sure. Should I bother importing something at this end of the scale or buy local? What do people think? This whole 15 year rule gives me some possibilities I guess. I want to do track work and go to drift days and the like.

I think they can, whether they do or not for a stolen car I don't know. Might be major expense involved to do it.

If you do have boost cut it cuts timing first so what you have described doesn't sound right. Sounds like the plugs. Pull them out and have a look. 0.8 to 0.9 is the go. Maybe 0.75 is too small????

Man, this argument is old and tired and baseless. It may be true in some circumstances but as a blanket it's no good for keeping you warm. Aussies can make things world class in a lot of fields. Do you think that maybe the heat encountered here in Australia might prompt people to design good cooling systems? The most knowledgable person I've spoken to on the subject was in a shop in Alice Springs. They know their cooling out there.

Try it at home and let us know. I'm curious. There was someone on here who had his car thrashed by some panel beaters. I don't think he got any recompense and besides, i wouldn't want a discount, i would want my car not thrashed. (not that i don't thrash it myself but that's my prerogative)

Maybe you could buy a whole engine with ecu and everything. Take the head off the one you have and put in a new head gasket to lower the compression then add all the bits from the other engine. After this you can sell the 2nd engine as is to someone else who has blown theirs up and doesn't need all the bits and pieces that you have pilfered. Doing it from scratch the way you are gives you the chance to go straight to after market computer, exhaust, bigger injectors and fuel pump maybe, etc.
