in situations like these you shouldn't take the word of some stranger on a forum so i'd advise you to check with your insurance company to be on the safe side. situations and circumstances can wreak havoc if you know what i mean. having said that, i don't know of anyone that has had to produce an engineers certificate to get insuance. that's only half of the story though. once you have insurance you want to make sure they will honour it and this is where it gets scetchy and why i don't like to listen to anyone except the insurance company in question. you see, in the case of an accident where the car is written off and they have to pay you out the insurance company will look after their best interests (their money) and try to screw you by proving that your car was not roadworthy due to modifications which were not engineered. best advice i can give you is call your insurance company (if you don't have one call as many as you can) and ask them if they will pay out in the event of a write off and where you haven't got an engineers cert for certain mods. and be specific be specific be specific. the only person you are cheating when it comes to disclosure is yourself. goodluck

the short answer is no for insurance reasons. but if you are looking for an engineer, taken from this thread... "By far the best engineer I've had the pleasure to deal with is a guy by the name of Phil Scott who deals out of Grafton. He visits Sydney on a regular basis and is most helpful (a trait which I found is most lacking among engineers). His number is (02) 6647 7558"

Damn SA is harsh! Goodluck Steve.

I did it late April this year. Like Shell said, do the ringaround and you'll find something cheap. If you're lucky you'll find a truck on a return trip with no load and they'll offer you a good price.
-
Oh btw, I think QLD has the cheapest engineering certs of all the states but I could be wrong. They give you a nice shiny green plate in your engine bay too.
-
No problem at all. You must be getting desperate looking at other states. Are the police bothering you or do you just want peace of mind?
-
So why are you asking for an engineer in NSW? You do know that a NSW cert will not cover you in SA right? By far the best engineer I've had the pleasure to deal with is a guy by the name of Phil Scott who deals out of Grafton. He visits Sydney on a regular basis and is most helpful (a trait which I found is most lacking among engineers). His number is (02) 6647 7558 Goodluck

Can dry cell batteries be recharged? Don't want to buy a new one if I don't have to. Cheers

TNT couriers. i moved a car from brissy to sydney for $230 in a closed truck. they offer all sorts of combinations and even their basic logistics give you a full report of the cars condition before and after arrival. you can track your cars location through their internet site too. that price was cheap for me though as it was a return trip for them.

hey dude, moved it to the events section ok. i haven't been to the show for about 4 years now. don't know why, just couldn't be bothered with the dissapointment each year.

crap. $30 well spent. although i don't know about the $5 hot dog that was as soggy as a marathon runners undies. yuk! there were twice as many cars on show compared to last year and some awsome 7 second runs by a few cars, fastest being a mid 7 by an rx7. the drags are still on and the night is getting cooler with a good wind behind them so this time will surely be beaten. there was one skyline but he didn't get a good start. the burnout comp was great as well including a very skilled driver in a kingswood (i think) that switched to reverse seamlessly three times when he came to the withces hats at the end of the burnout area. i counted over ten sets of tyres blown, five fires and four breakdowns. great show. i missed victor brays burnout but i did hear it all the way at the end of the parking area at the go karts. oh, and i could smell the rubber from there too. we didn't get the final numbers for attendance but the commentator said there was 25,000 just after lunch time. don't miss it next year guys.

Should you buy a Skyline for a first car?

very true. so how much maturity does an 18 yr old have? i'm 25 and i have very little and looking back at when i was 18 makes me wonder how i never killed someone or myself... -

now that i think about it, he's not allowed to have a 240. they are an endangered species and i'd rather not have another one murdered! -

A neighbour of mine asked me what I think of the Skyline series and whether it is a good idea to buy one as a first car. He's 17. What do you guys think? Is it a good idea to learn how to handle a powerful RWD car while you're young or should the youngens drive a small FWD to begin with and why? -
"Last night several notices were issued to cars with wheels that were too big and others that had been lowered for better cornering." Seems a bit ironic giving notices to a modification that improves the car as is the case when lowering to improve cornering.

don't sweat. you've started a valid and very good topic. some people are bound to get worked up. good point neil. the value for money was what drew me towards skylines. now if only the insurance would come down by 50%.
-
just my observation. no need to get worked up over it. tosh, you and me both. as homer would say... hgrrrrrr silver, i'll have one of those but make mine with a softer clutch. bit of a pain driving it every day.
-
that's the way silver. just don't test drive a decent V8 unless you are ready to fork over the cash for one. i guarantee it, you will be hooked!
-
that's why it's an enthusiasts car. if you don't know how to work on it yourself don't even bother thinking about it. i guess that rules me out. but the new rotors aren't as bad as what everyone makes them out to be. they are way more reliable than your old rx3's etc
-
i reckon. one of my mates has one for sale that's a bit of a machine. i'm tempted to have a drive since he doesn't care much about it anymore but i'm not going to in case i smash it. wouldn't that suck. the datto is sleeping atm. one of the uni joints has cracked and it's still holding on but any hard acceleration off the mark and it'll break. saving up the dosh to convert it to cv's. some HR31 units are going in so she'll have some Skyline blood in her.

well i can tell you i'm not looking out for skylines and i see at least three every day. i drive past the habibs at tempe tyres each day and there's one there more often than not. and i do see about 15 HSV's but unfortunately they are all parked at Parkside Motors at Tempe. anyhoo...
-
yeah he's a cop. i especially like it when he uses his handcuffs and batton.:uh-huh:

Very true about the perspective thing Akira but I'd have to dissagree with you about your statistics comment. Which statistics are these and where can I see them? These days for every HSV there are 3 Skylines (and you can bet I'm not coming from a biased viewpoint). It's very obvious and it doesn't take statistics to see it. As far as performance cars are concerned Skylines are outnumbering every other car. Not that it's a bad thing. At least parts are getting cheaper therefore insurance will drop and more choices when buying one etc etc.
