  1. just to let everybody know most intercooler cores on trucks have a very different fin design. they are designed for the typical inlet temperatures of a diesel(far less than a petrol) therefore do not need to cool the air as much as a petrol engine. if u want to use a truck intercooler core i suggest you run a thermo fan if not 2 so as to get sufficient cooling otherwise stick with application specific cores.
  2. well htat sounds better than ive been working out. in other words with the permission from the powers that be, a person can import a car and pay 15% customs, the shipping costs, and then 10% on the total of all of the above(of course there are compliance costs etc but i was more concerned about tarrifs). if this is correct cars can be brought over here alot cheaper than alot of people i know think. if sum1 can correct me or can spot a mistake ive made please correct it as im eager to know the low down on importing
  3. Before i get started i would like ot point out that i am a 16 year old that has my P Plates in advance for work and tafe purposes. I have scared myself out of driving hi powered cars whilst i was working at a performance workshop as an apprentice. The LEAST powerful car in the workshop had 350Kw at the wheels and the most powerful was in excess of 700Kw. The boss let me take one of the cars around the block(wiht him in the passenger seat of course) to show me how dangerous driving can be. The car in question was a moded r33 gtr. i was extra cautious and drove pretty tamely and i still managed to get the cars tail to snap out from under me luckily as we were in an industrial area there was no traffic around. never going above third gear we returned to the workshop and parked the car inside. Before i got in the car i was over confident and 'KNEW' i could handle the power(410Kw). when i came back i was just happy not to have crashed. from this experience i learnt that driver education as well as EXTENSIVE experience is required to drive any car safely really. That article should have scared most young drivers but then again not everyone is the same. In the end no matter what you drive, unless you have the experience you are a higher risk on the road than someone with many years of experience(commonsense i know but meh). Just my opinion
  4. Hey peoples. Im looking into importing a car or two in the next few months and i need to know what the tax and custom duties are on the cars. I was told htat there is a 22% tax as well as a 15% stamp duty but i cant find out how much the customs fees are. can anyone help me??
  5. yeah alot of sensors and other small gidgets and gadgets are made by mitsubishi electric on heaps of cars
  6. The head and head gaskets vary slightly as well as the throttle body diameter. there are a few other negligible things that are different. yeah sure you could use those pistons for better off boost performance but remember that you wont be able to run as much boost otherwise you'll suffer from detonation. If u do decide to use those pistons i suggest you use a thicker head gasket (1.6mm should do it) and also get your head ported so really after you look at it it might be cheaper to use forged pistons anyway. hope ive helped
  7. My old man was in the tyre game for about 20 years he wreckons that michelins are the only thing to put on your car. i think hes right
  8. I have been wondering how practical and efficient it would be to install an aftermarket variable valve system. Unisia Jecs do sell such systems but i am assuming they are very pricey. Also would the gains be worth the headache of installing it??? I know HKS developed their own version(well they took all the bits out of a supra and shoehorned them into an rb26) and they r testing it in their drag car. Does anyone else have anymore knowledge on the topic?
  9. Hi everyone im totally new to the site but just wanna share my two cents. RIPS has the right idea here. There are alot of people in Australia that pull those sort of power figures with stock internals. The main reason that people change their internals is cuase they want their car to run with higher power figures for longer. And like was said earlier as long as detonation is kept under control i dont see any reason why a stock bottom end cant live with those power figures for many kilometres. PS: just an example look at the car on www.rh9.com.au that thing has stock internals and is making some awesome power figures
